ALYWARD, Melvin and
KELLY-ALYWARD, Estelle
Passed on: August 2nd, 2018

It is with great loss and sadness that the families of Estelle Kelly-Alyward and Melvin Alyward of Labrador City announce their sudden passing in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, August 2, 2018. They leave to mourn a loving family, son David Alyward (Kendra Gage); parents, Ivy and David Kelly of Port au Choix and Johanna and Patrick Alyward of Port au Choix; brothers, Stephen (Nadine) Kelly, Donald (Carolyn) Spence, Don Alyward, Denise (Tony) Flynn, Daphne Alyward (Paul Baird), Dean Alyward (Liza Layda) and Devin Alyward; nieces and nephews, AJ Humber, Hunter and Hailee Spence, Georgina Alyward, Michael Alyward, Paul Alyward, Jennifer Alyward, Amanda-Lyn Morgan, Nicole and Marcus Flynn, Daniel Mahoney, Hannah Bond, Emerson Alyward, Carissa Mack, Derrick Alyward and Bailey Sexton; special friends, Jen (Dion) Lavers and Rodney (Lindy) Arnold. Predeceased by grandparents, Donald and Evelyn Spence and Alphonsus and Frances Kelly, Ellen and Edward Bromley and Michael and Alice Alyward; brothers, Ken Spence and Wade Alyward, and sister Georgina Alyward. Visitation was held at St. Theresa's RC Church, Port au Choix, on Sunday 7-9 pm and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A double funeral service took place on Tuesday August 7th at 2:00 pm with Father Ricardo Rossi of Bird Cove Parish presiding. Interment date will be determined. Family and friends may visit the website at www.fillatre.ca to leave messages of condolence or to sign the guest book. The family entrusted the care and arrangements of Estelle and Melvin to Fillatre's Funeral Home Port au Choix.

ELLIOTT, CALEB JOHN
Passed away August 22, 2018 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 95 years. Caleb was born in Billy's Harbour and moved to Cook's Harbour as a young man. He fished up until his late thirties. Then he went to work with the Department of Highways where he stayed until his retirement after 22 years. Caleb loved the outdoor life and spent as much time as possible hunting, fishing, or just boiling the kettle. As long as he was outside he was happy. He will be surely missed by all his friends and family. May he rest in peace. Caleb leaved to mourn his Brother, Amos (Faye); Sisters, Millie and Rachel (Allan); Brother-in-law, Wesley as well as a long list of nieces, nephews, and close friends. A special thank you is extended to Caleb's closest friends who were always by his side, Mae Richards and Bob Mesher and families. Caleb was predeceased by his Wife, Cornelia; Parents Bertram and Priscilla; Sisters Eliza, Edith, Dora, Yvonne, and Gladys; Stepmother Maude; Nephew Lorne; Great-nephew Dillon; and Brother Oswald. Visitation was held from St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Cooks Harbour from where the funeral was held on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 at 2:00 with The Right Reverend John Organ officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.

FARWELL, Rita M.
Passed on: August 27th, 2018

It is with sadness that the family of Rita M. Farwell of Port au Choix, NL announces her passing at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center Port Saunders, on Monday August 27th at the great age of 99 years. She leaves to mourn a special niece Doris Hamlyn, niece Juanita (Trevor) Payne; great nieces and nephews, Glen, Jamie (Collette), Blaine (Cindy), Blaire (Heather), Glenn (Cathy), Joann (Murray); brother-in-law Roland (Nina) Farwell; sisters-in-law, Millicent Billard, Sadie Farwell and a great number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by husband John (Jack) Farwell; parents Margaret and Joseph Breton; sisters, Georgina, Mildred, Bertha, Alma and her brother Eugene. Visitation was held at St. Theresa's RC Church Port au Choix Tuesday 7-9 pm and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a funeral service on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 am with Father R. Rossi officiating followed by interment in Sandy Cove Interfaith Cemetery, Port Saunders. In Memoriam donations may be made to St. Theresa's Church. Family and friends may sign the guest book and leave messages of condolence by visiting the website at www.fillatre.ca   The family entrusted Rita's final wishes and arrangements to Fillatre Funeral Homes Ltd. Port au Choix.

GENGE, STEDMAN
Passed away August 11, 2018 at the age of 87 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his Children, Claude (Daphne), Henry (Marion), Myrtle, Nancy (Pat), Harvey (Livina), Roy (Priscilla), Sted (Karen); Grandkids, Dwayne (Tina), Tyrone, Claude Jr. (Elva), Jillian (Keith), Mitchel (Gina), Maurice (Melissa), Tobi (Pam), Jordan (Jessica), Candace, Natasha (Chris), Kristopher (Effie), and Tyler (Tara); Great-grandkids, Mackenzie, Courtney, Keira, Blade, Victoria, Jayden, Chloe, Ava, Jenna, Jarod, and Ethan; Siblings, Dulcie, Kirby (Vivian), Roland (Jessica), Isaac (Hazel), and Tena, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Stedman was predeceased by his Wife, Alma; Parents, Abraham and Alice; Brother, Noah; Son-in-law, Don; Great-grandson, Nicholas. Visitation was held from St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral was held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Claire Stewart officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.

KENNEDY, JOHN
Passed away August 7th, 2018 at the age of 89 years. John Kennedy was born in Flowers Cove, NL on February 25th, 1929. John was the son of Uncle Mike (Nicholas) and Mary Ann Kennedy (Young). John (Jack as he was lovingly known) was placed in the Grenfell Orphanage in St. Anthony at the age of 7 years old where he was raised and educated until he was 17 years of age. Upon leaving the Orphanage he travelled by dog sled team to Main Brook where he was employed by Bowaters as a Cookee initially but was later hired as a lumberjack. He moved to Roddickton where he continued his career as a woodsman. Uncle Mike, John's father was residing in Roddickton at that time and was operating a general store. Shortly after moving to Roddickton he met the love of his life Meta Cassell. They were married February 28th, 1952. He set up his own business John Kennedy & Sons for which he was the owner & operator for 30 years. Together with his loving wife they raised a family of 8 children. After closing his business John & Meta moved to Ontario where he worked in the logging industry for ten years. Upon retiring they moved back to Roddickton where they lived a very contented, loving and happy life together until the morning of August 7th, 2018. John loved and served the Lord for the majority of his life. He had an ear for music and sang and played the violin as part of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Roddickton for many years. He had a heart for others and everyone he met was a friend. He opened his home and his heart to everyone. He judged no one and lived only to serve others. When you saw him, he would greet you with his smile and a wave of his hand. John was a brilliant man with an avid love of reading. He was a hard-working man who loved his family dearly. John passed peacefully away into the presence of the Lord with his wife and some members of his large family by his side. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Meta and 7 of their children. 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He leaves behind a legacy of music, faith, love and hope. He is predeceased by his parents, his daughter Marjorie and great-grandson Nicholas. Visitation was held from he Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral was held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Chris Hewlett officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.
Special Note of Thanks goes to Dr. Yagoob, the nursing staff & palliative care unit of Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, Dr. Girgis & the nursing staff of White Bay Central Health Care, Roddickton, K. M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, Pastor Christopher Hewitt & Ministry as well as the musicians, choir and ladies group of the Apostolic Faith, Roddickton. Thank you to everyone who has called, sent messages and cards. If we have missed anyone thank you so much for your kindness.

McLEAN, AUREALIA
born April 17th, 1929, passed away August 30th, 2017 at the Sir Rufus Guinchard Health Center at the age of 88 years. Mourned and remembered with love by her family; daughters Sybil (Desmond) MacArthur, Hazareth (George) Kelly, Louise (Pat) Rumbolt, Irene (Herold) Macey, Shirley (Dylan) Rumbolt, Rosie (Colby) Cullinghall; Sons Roland (Joyce), Leslie (Penny), Lambert (Helen), Primus (Pearl); Sons-in-law John Macey and Michael Gibbons as well as a large circle of Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond; Daughters Sarah and Augustine; Parents Eugene and Sarah Parrill; Son in Law Desmond MacArthur; Sister Elizabeth Jane Crane; and special nephews Nelson Crane. Visitation was held from St. Andrews Anglican Church in Lower Cove from where the funeral took place on Saturday September 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed in the Green Island Cove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

PENNEY, MARIE EMMA
May 26, 1944 - August 1, 2018

On August 1, 2018, Marie passed into the presence of the Lord. Marie was born on May 26th, 1944 to parents Fletcher and Myrtle Weir of Roddickton, NL. After finishing school Marie accepted a job as a Nurse's Aide with the Roddickton Health Clinic. Marie met the love of her life, Daniel Hodge, in 1963 and married that same year. Marie and Daniel were blessed with 5 children; one boy, Perry, and 4 Girls, Patty, Bonnie, Connie, and Joanne. In 1994 Marie's Husband, Daniel Hodge, passed into the presence of the One that he loved and served. Then, in 1999 Marie met and married George Penney from Port Hope Simpson, Labrador and she was blessed to have inherited two stepsons (spouses) and 5 stepdaughters (spouses) and grandchildren. Marie and George lived in St. Lunaire-Griquet for a year and then moved to Roddickton where they lived together until her untimely passing. Marie leaves to mourn her Husband, George Penney; Daughter, Pastor Bonnie Hodge - Edmonton, AB; Sisters, Victoria (Gilbert), Madonna (Murray), Glenda (Chris) - Thompson, MB; Brother Pleman; 2 granddaughters, Samantha (Dale) - Ft. Mcmurray, AB, Stephanie (Matt) - Ft. Mcmurray, AB; 2 Great-granddaughters Makayli - Edmonton, Cecilia - Ft. Mcmurray; 1 Great-grandson, Zackary - Ft. Mcmurray, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Marie was predeceased by her first Husband, Daniel Hodge, 4 Children; Perry, Patty, Joanne, and Connie; her parents Fletcher and Myrtle Weir; Brothers Alfred, Kevin, Garland and her Sister Jennie.

TUCKER, WILFRED LEONARD
Passed away on August 26th, 2018 at St. Claire's Mercy Hospital in St. John's after a short illness. He will be sadly missed by his loving family. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memory his Wife, Mabel; Daughters Mona (Junior), Maxine (Rodney), Bonnie (Darren); Sons, Kevin (Kelly), Kenneth (Jennett); Grandchildren, Tyler (Mindy), Kayla (Rodney), Kendall, Jeremy (Michelle), Olivia, Deven, Katie, D'Marco, and Brianna; Great-grandchildren Lila and Colton; Brother Silby (Delilah); Sister Mamie, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Wilfred was pre-deceased by his parents Kenneth and Elizabeth; step-sister Verdie; step-brother Roderick; brothers Valen, Wilson, Carl; and brother-in-law Newton Morgan. Visitation took place from the United Church in Ship Cove from where the funeral was held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating, interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.
