BUCKLE, Samuel Chesley
Born: July 14th, 1924
Passed on: August 11th, 2016
Samuel (Sam) Chesley Buckle
passed away peacefully with family members at his side on August 11, 2016. Sam was a resident of the Labrador South Long Term Care Facility, respected and esteemed father of Olive (Allister) Michelin, Cindy (David) Tanzi, Bazel (Linda), Wilfred (Tena), Clarence (Wanda), Joyce (Ron) Vincent, Greta (Roland) Jones, Freda Hancock, Howard Hancock, and Terry (Kathy); grandfather of eight granddaughters; nine grandsons; 14 great-granddaughters, 13 great-grandsons; three great-great-grandsons. He leaves to mourn two brothers, Jehu (Helen) and Sidney (Faye); two sisters, Rosie (Alex) Flynn, and Janie Fowler. He was predeceased by his first wife Bertha (nee Butt), and his second wife, Aggie (nee Glynn); three sisters, Gladys, Lily Mae Roberts and Stella Ellsworth; three brothers, Eddie, Wilfred, and Baxter, and a special grandson, Damien Hancock, whom he considered more as a son. Visitation took place at the United Church in Forteau on Friday and Saturday. The funeral service took place on Sunday, August 14 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Norman Cutler officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Church Cemetery in Forteau. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, L'Anse au Loup.

HARP, Elaine G.

Elaine G. Harp
of Hanover, New Hampshire, 98, died peacefully on August 1, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Elmer Harp, Jr. who did his early archaeological work at Phillips Garden, what is now Port au Choix National Historic Site, and in other towns along the Straits. Both Elaine and Elmer cherished the friends they made over the years in Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition to 13 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, Elaine's survivors include her four children: Jack (Donna) of Lebanon, New Hampshire; Geoffrey (Patty Jo) of Missoula, Montana; Vicky Drucker (Reid) of Hanover, New Hampshire; and Douglas (Susan Salter) of Hanover, New Hampshire. Elaine and Elmer's family will forever have a special place in their hearts for the wonderful people and places of Newfoundland and Labrador.

KEEFE, Pearl Mae
Passed on: August 6th, 2016
Pearl Mae Keefe
passed away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on August 6, 2016 at the age of 92 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons Wesley (Marilyn) Keefe, Robert (Kris) Keefe, Grant (Mae) Keefe, Lomond (Beryl) Keefe, and James Keefe; daughters Beatrice Gear, Nancy (Richard) Shulek, Celeste (Byron) White and Florence (George) Canning; sister Maude Saunders as well as 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren;15 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandson as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 11 with Pastor George Burton officiating. Interment followed in the New Apostolic Cemetery in Englee. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry. M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

PARRILL, Flossie Victoria
Born: April 21st, 1922
Passed on: August 8th, 2016

Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on August 8, 2016 at the age of 94 years, Flossie Victoria (Taylor) Parrill. Flossie was born on April 21, 1922 in Raleigh to Harvey and Eva (Pynn) Taylor. On January 4, 1941 she married the love of her life, Norman Parrill of Pines Cove. They made their home in St. Anthony raising six children. On Monday morning, August 8, 2016, Flossie passed peacefully away with her family by her side. She leaves to mourn one son Roy (Rachel); four daughters Ena, Dorothy, Mary Ellen (Randy) and Jackie (Hayward); as well as 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Norman, son Elijah, son-in-law Robert, parents Harvey and Eva, brothers Elijah, Valen, Llewelyn, Ernest and sisters Bertha, Ellen, Evelyn, and Ivy. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, August 10 at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony United Church with Rev. Dinesh Gomes and Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed in the Fishing Point United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

PILGRIM, William Ross
Born: January 11th, 1936
Passed on: August 24th, 2016
William Ross Pilgrim
was born in St. Anthony Bight on January 11, 1936 to Harvey Pilgrim and Chatfield (Compton) Pilgrim. The family moved to Englee when he was a young boy. When he was 15, he began work in the telegraph office in Roddickton. At the age 17 he entered the Air Force working as a telecommunications officer. On October 19, 1957 he married Ruby Newhook of Roddickton and together they had three sons, raising them in Roddickton. Ross passed peacefully away early Wednesday morning, August 24, 2016. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Ruby; his sons Shane (Hilda), Todd (Juanita), and Trevor (Shanna); grandchildren Russell (Dawn), Shelley (Chris), Ryan (Shawna), Shelby, Tor and Chantelle, as well as his great-grandchildren Angelie and Layne. He is also survived by his brother Cluney (Emma), and sisters Marion (Ches, deceased) and Joy (Bill). He is gone from our sight, but not from our memory and he will be sadly missed. Visitation was held at Wesley United Church in Roddickton, from where the celebration of his life will took place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28th with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roddickton United Church. Following the service, a gathering was held at the Mayflower Inn. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

PITTMAN, Reuben J.
Born: August 5th, 1936
Passed on: August 28th, 2016
Reuben J. Pittman
passed away on August 28, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 80 years. Reuben was born in Williamsport on August 5, 1936 to Mabel and John Pollard and raised by Minnie and Elias Pittman. Reuben married Mae Hancock on November 23, 1955 and together they raised two sons, eight daughters, and a grandson. He leaves to mourn his wife Mae; sons Kirk (Beth), and Bruce (Ruby); grandson Terry (Theresa); daughters Denise (Dorman), Rona (Steve), Lorraine (Ivan), Penney (Freeman), Ada (Naaman), Debbie (Daniel), Viva (Edward), and Elaine (Percy); brothers Paul Ballet, and Peter Ballet; sisters Delphine Cassel, Patsy (Hervine) Strong, and Mercedes House; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Reuben is predeceased by his parents, granddaughter Deidre Adams, his brother Stanley Pollard, and stepsister Mary Dempsey. Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 31st with Pastor Benjamin Brown officiating. Interment followed in the New Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral services were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

ROBERTS, Evelyn Rebecca
Born: May 3rd, 1933
Passed on: August 5th, 2016

Passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on August 5, 2016 at the age of 83 years, Evelyn Rebecca (Taylor) Roberts. Evelyn was born on May 3, 1933 at Raleigh to Allan and Deliah (Bessey) Taylor. On December 21, 1951 she married the love of her life, Wilfred Roberts of Quirpon. They made their home in Quirpon together raising six children. In 1972 they moved to St. Anthony, where she worked for many years with Fishery Products. After retirement she and Wilfred enjoyed time with their family and friends, their cabins and gardens and attending this church. Evelyn was a life member of the United Church Women. On Friday, August 5, 2016 Evelyn passed peacefully away after battling cancer, and went to be with the love of her life, with whom she spent 64 years. She is survived by her children Marie (Ralph), Cecil (Jessie), Stafford (Patricia), Wavey (Dean), Keith (Marie), and Kevin (Debbie); 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by sisters, Elvie (Cyril) Campbell, Selma Taylor and Grace Taylor; her brother-in-law George; sister-in-law Peggy Taylor many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred, her parents, three brothers and three sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral which took place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9 with Rev. Dinesh Gomes and Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed in the Quirpon Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

WHELAN, William Gregory

Passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on August 22, 2016 at the age of 86 years, William Whelan. Billy, as he was known to many, was born in Conche on March 11, 1930 to Nicholas and Mary (Joyce) Whelan. He married Laboura (Carroll) Whelan on November 17, 1960 and together they raised eight children. He leaves to mourn his children Debbie (Ted Companion), Ethel (Gerard Byrne), Bonita (Sean Temple), Kenneth (Angela), Randy (Carol), Claude (Stephanie), Velma, and Willis (Sue); grandchildren Elizabeth, Geoffrey, Lyndon, Kirk, Kristen, Andrew, Madison, Morgan, Mia, T.J., Keisha, Cole, Bailey, Cassy, and Mack; great-grandchildren Austin, and Lois; siblings Maureen, Bride, Susan (John Bromley), Jim (Cheryl), Nick; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Mike, as well as his brothers-in-law Ralph Carroll, Tom Connolly, Wilf Carroll, Clyde Carroll, and Tom Jackman. Visitation was held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche from where the funeral service took place on Thursday, August 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Lourdhu Raju Madanu officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.
