BURDEN, Allan George
Passed peacefully away on Aug. 22, 2013 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Mr. Allan George Burden of St. Lunaire-Griquet, NL, in his 68th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Shirley; son Paul (Lillian); daughters Cleo (Paul), Tracey (Sheldon), Thresa (Kevin), and Trudy (Randy); 10 grandchildren Jeffrey, April, Clarissa, Dylan, Danielle, Braydon, Alexander, Mackenzie, Summer Lee, and Jonah; two great-grandchildren Victoria, and Jaxon; one brother and five sisters as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his arents Hazel and Harrison Burden, brothers Ralph, Hayward, and Roland. Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Griquet from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25 with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

COOMBS, Wilfred W. "Bill"
In the early morning hours of Aug. 22, 2013, following a brief struggle with cancer, Wilfred W. "Bill" Coombs of Reef's Harbour, NL (July 12, 1964 - Aug. 22, 2013) was called home by his heavenly father and reunited with his earthy father, Wilfred Coombs. He leaves behind his life-mate Gloria Tucker; mother Ruby Coombs; brother John (Vonnie); father-in-law Harold Tucker Sr.; brothers-in-law Harold G. (Fanny) Tucker and Dean Tucker; nephews Jamie (Shelley), and Boyd (Heidi); and great-nieces Alexis Tucker, Anna Tucker, Alyson Caines and Aria Tucker. Bill also leaves behind a large family of aunts, uncles and cousins and a huge circle of friends. Bill made a big impact on the many health-care professionals who got to know him during his illness and they have joined his circle of friends. He was predeceased by his father Wilfred. Funeral service will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

HARLEY, Brian John Sturmey

Corner Brook, NL

Passing on Thursday, August 22, 2013, Dr. Brian Harley, a retired Internal Medicine Specialist. Dr. Harley was born in 1924 and educated in England at Mill Hill School and St. Mary's Hospital Medical School. He migrated to Canada in 1955 and, after a residency in Ottawa, he moved his young family to Corner Brook, where he practiced general internal medicine. During subsequent years he developed a Medical Consultant Group that provided service for the West Coast of Newfoundland and took further training to enable Western Memorial Regional Hospital to open a Nuclear Medicine Department. He was active in the militia and as Lieutenant Colonel commanded 1st Medical Company R.C.A.M.C. from 1970 until its disbandment. Dr. Harley was also active in medical politics having been elected as President of the Newfoundland Medical Association in 1973, and was awarded a lifetime membership of the Canadian Medical Association and the Newfoundland Medical Association. Dr. Brian Harley joined the Corner Brook Rotary Club in 1962 and he was a Paul Harris Fellow and was elected Club President from 1990 to 1991. He was awarded the True Rotarian Award in 2008 in recognition of devoted and notable service and for furthering the principles of Rotary. An enthusiastic sportsman and outdoorsman, he was a founding member of the Marble Mountain Ski Club and the Blomidon Country Club. Dr. Harley was interested in history, especially the history of the Bay of Islands and published a book on the subject in 1998 entitled, The Legacy of James Cook. He is predeceased by his first wife Beryl (nee Coleman), second wife Hazel (nee Osmond), and son Richard (who followed in his father's footsteps to become a Doctor of Radiology).

HILLLIER, Thomas Baxter
Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Aug. 26, 2013, Mr. Thomas Baxter Hillier of St. Lunaire-Griquet, NL, in his 73rd year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Irene; daughter Tammy (Chad Anderson); stepson Paul Humby; stepdaughter Myrna (Stan Earles); one granddaughter Emma; three step-grandchildren Tristen, Chandler, and Keisha; six brothers; two sisters, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Laura and Stanley Hillier, brothers David and Hayward, sisters Marion and Mable. Visitation took place at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Interment followed in the Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

HOUSE, Rita (nee Thornill)
It is with great sadness that the families announce the sudden passing of Rita House (nee Thornill), (April 16, 1936 - Aug. 15, 2013) of Daniel's Harbour, NL, on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, on Route 430, T.C.H, at the age of 77 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Allan (Lola), Rosemary (Jeff), Phillip (Rosemary), Eric (Lucy), Roland (Brenda), Muriel (Barry), Phyllis (Bruce), David (Elaine), Gregory (Alma), and Wavey (Brent); her grandchildren Wanda-Lee (Travis), Richard (Charmaine), Dana (Betty), Terri-Lynn (Grant), Riley (Barb), Patricia (Keith), Rochelle (Denny), Bruce (Kayla), Brad (Mandy), Dustin, Kenda (Darryl), Brook (Gina), Dylan, Jimmy (Michelle), Tracey, Eric, Lisa (Danny), Jenna (Lucas), Sarah, Angelina, and Ivan (Donna); Nan House was also surrounded by a large circle of great-grandkids; her siblings Margaret, Lavina, and Kevin (Marilyn); also a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family and friends, as well as a special friend of the family, Robert Hynes. Mother was predeceased by her husband Riley, daughter Margaret, son Samuel, parents Phillip and Helen Thornhill, grandson Jimmy, brothers Cyril, and Frank, mother and father-in-law Hardy and Myrtle House, son-in-law Wayne Perry and brother-in-law Walter Billard. As for Rita's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service took place on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m., Holy Cross Anglican Church in Daniel's Harbour with Rt. Bishop Leonard Whitten officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Daniel's Harbour. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL. MITCHELL, Frank R.
Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Aug. 8, 2013, Mr. Frank R. Mitchell of Noddy Bay, NL, in his 71st year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife of 49 years, Fanny; his sons Denley (Flossie), Alf (Joy), and Rick (Lisa); daughter Roxann (Roger); grandchildren Robin (Susie), Rikki (Krista), Roger (Ashley), Robert, Rhea, River, Kenny, Randy (Sheena), Corey, Pamela (Clayton), Tina, Jessica, and Justin; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Rick, Junior (Elda), and Ralph (Violet); sisters Margaret (Caleb), Peggy (Walter), Doreen (Morris), and Bonnie, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dawe and Bessie Mitchell and sister Brenda. Visitation was held at the Central United Church at Quirpon branch from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11 with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment followed in the Quripon Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

RANDELL, Ralph
Passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2013 at the White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton, Mr. Ralph Randell of Englee, NL, in his 67th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Wynita Randell; daughter Sharon Gill (Keith Gill); step-daughter Denise Randell; grandchildren Ryan and Rianna Gill; sister Leonie Diamond; mother-in-law Hilda Canning; as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in Englee from where the funeral service followed at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 with Pastor Samson officiating. Interment followed in the Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.

RUSSELL, James
It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Russell of William's Harbour, NL, (Dec. 1, 1940 - Aug. 31, 2013) announce his passing at the Labrador South Health Centre in Forteau on Aug. 31, 2013 at the age of 72 years. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Alton and grandson David. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 47 years Vera Russell (Burden); his five children Perry Burden (Paula), Darryl Russell, Marilyn Russell (Junior), Denise Russell (Derek), and James Russell Jr. (Colette); two sisters Greta Russell (late Leonard) and Ann Flynn (Dennis). He was loved and adored by his five grandchildren Shannon, Jimmy, Toby, Amy, and Stephanie, and one great-grandson Hunter, all of whom he cherished. Visitation was held at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, William's Harbour on Monday, Sept. 2. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with Rev. Jeffery Petten officiating. Interment followed at St. Andrew's Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, L'Anse au Loup.

WHITE, Clara (nee Normore)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announce Clara's passing of Sandy Cove, NL, (Oct. 2, 1944 - Aug. 29, 2013) on Aug. 29, 2013 at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Sterling; mother Elfreida; children Floyd (Joanne), Beverly (Alan), and Lisa (Clarence); grandchildren Jordan, Brandon, Yvonne, Alexis, Mitchel, Madi and Kate; siblings Myra, George, Myrtle, Claude, Gary, Doris, Valerie, and Winston. The funeral service took place on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sandy Cove with Rev. Marlene Harvey officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery in Savage Cove.
