BUDGELL, Frederick
Passed on: April 15th, 2017
Frederick Budgell
passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Sunday, April 15th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Fred lived and worked in St. Anthony all his life. Along with his wife Dora, he raised 10 children and still found time to be deeply involved in his community and church. He was fully devoted to The Salvation Army and served as Corps Sergeant Major for 28 years. His faith and love for God was an integral part of his life and very evident in his daily living and in how he raised his family. His convictions ran deep and the bible, as well as the life and teaching of Jesus as revealed in scripture was his measurement for judging right from wrong. This left little room for grey areas in his thinking and approach to life. Fred was anything but a passive citizen, engaging through the years in the life of his community by serving in a number of capacities, including Chairman of the First Co-operative Credit Society (Co-op) of St. Anthony, formed the first Fisherman's Union in St. Anthony and served as Secretary-treasurer, St. Anthony Interfaith Home Board, town council and school board. A strong work ethic and unwavering spirit are hallmarks of his character. His full dedication to duty and determination to provide for his family was apparent in his working life as a fisherman, carpenter, boat builder, and chef. Fred, a true servant of God and soldier of The Salvation Army, was promoted to Glory on Easter Sunday, Resurrection Day, an appropriate exclamation mark at the conclusion of a life lived well to the glory of God. Left with warm and loving memories are his children, Roland (Marion), Velma (David), John (Judith), Priscilla (Godfrey), Deborah (Wilhelmus), Lester (Donna), Raymond (Deborah), Leonard (Joyce), Ernest (Valma), and Wade (Linda); 28 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral took place at 2:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church with Captain Brown officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
