St. Anthony

Passed peacefully away on April 3, 2006, Herbert Twyne, age 91 years. Left with fond memories his wife Cinderella; children George (Blanche), Daphne (Stafford), Alonzo (Lori), Ella (Robert), Pansy (Terry), Ronald (Peggy), Martha (Paul) and Douglas (Gloria); 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother Abram (Bessie); sister Susie; brothers-in-law Chesley (Edith), Stewart (Dorothy) and Cecil (Ida). He was predeceased by his parents George and Elizabeth, daughter Frances, sister-in-law Emma and son-in-law Barry Newell. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

TAYLOR, ETHEL MAY
Ship Cove

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, Ethel May Taylor, age 82 years. She leaves to mourn sons Roy, Edwin and David; daughters Juanita Andrews (Adolphus), Winnie Pilgrim (Eric), Violet Hillier (Archibald), Karen, Maysie and Joannee; grandchildren Christopher, Glenda, Peter, Miles, Tara, Terry, Ivan and Benjamin; one great-grandchild Robert; sister-in-law Helen Regular, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, son Ronald, daughter Laphna, sisters Myrtle Taylor and Evelyn Regular, brother Archilbald Regular and son-in-law Clayton Patey. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in Ship Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 with Pastor Bennett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Levinia Caines Fillatre, funeral director.

COATES, CURTIS
Eddies Cove East

Passed peacefully away on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Curtis Coates, age 59 years. Leaving to mourn his wife Mary Rachel, sisters Bessie Williams (Stanley) and Winnie Hughes (Maitland); brothers Claude (Donna) and Llewellyn (Emma); sisters-in-law Gladys Ryland (Levi), Sadie Stevens (William Henry), Jane Williams (Jacob) and Sybil Taylor; brothers-in-law Lawerence (Irene), Calvin (Jessie), Clyde (Amy) and Edgar (Vivian); special nephew Perry Williams; special nieces Ada Genge and Susan Williams, and many more nieces and nephews who were close to his heart, and a wide circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Isabella. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Lower Cove from where the funeral service was held on Monday, April 10 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Levinia Caines, funeral director.

HUGHES, ROSIE MARIE
Green Island Brook

Passed away on April 11, 2006, Rosie Marie Hughes, age 58 years. Thankful for a lifetime of memories husband Whyman; son Brian (Wanda); daughters Brenda (Keith) and Beulah (Wayne); grandchildren Tara, Alicia and Keith, sisters Currie (Roland), Sadie, Cassie (Peter), Winnie and Emily (Gideon); brothers Lawrence (Jean), Eric (Mae), Norman (Helen), Gorvin (Sarah), Garland (Priscilla), Selby (Lorraine), Osbourne (Velma) and Wade; sisters-in-law Amy (Stanley), Elva (Orval), Beulah (David) and Sheila (Frank); brothers-in-law Bill (Marg), Roland, Flick (Frances), Nat (Patsy), Claude (Vera), Baxter (Phoebe), and Winston (Mona) as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Selby, parents-in-law Bridget and John. Visitation took place at St. Andrew’s church from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 with Rev. Diane Smith officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. BILES, ELIZA BEATRICE St.
Anthony

Passed away on April 12, 2006, Eliza Biles, age 71 years. She leaves to mourn sons Dennis (June), Roger (Lee), Daniel (Sharla) and Melvin (Sylvia); daughters Betty, Leona (Gordon) and Linda (Robert); grandchildren Marshall, April, Robyn (Derrick), Paul, Hazel (Chris), Jarrett, Jeremy, Jackie, Vanessa (George), Millicent, Dawnie, Marshall Hillier, Robert, Stephanie and Samantha; great-grandchildren Amber, Billie, Georgie, Abby, Taylor, Keiara, Kailee, Savanna, Thomas, Dana, Maria, Tanner, Patrick and Brooke. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas David Biles. Visitation took place at the Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 14 with Pastor Peckford officiating. PATEY, REUBEN MURDOCK
St. Anthony

Passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital on April 12, 2006, Reuben Murdock Patey in his 89th year. A World War II veteran, he served with the British Royal Navy 1941-1946. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Vida; children Keith (Dora), Gloria (Reg) and Laurie (Rosarie); grandchildren Darryl (Kim), Shane (Nicole), Jennifer (Dean); Christopher (Holly) and Crystal; great-grandchildren Kurtis, Joanna, Erin and Haley Anne; sisters-in-law Stella, Florence, Jessie, Phyllis , Winnie and Vera, as well as a circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Silas and Rowanna, brothers Garfield, Arch Norman, sister Lavenia, in-laws Eugene, George and Julie, Ray and Bertha, Harold Lester and Simeon, William and Beatrice Budgell and grandson Reginald. Visitation took place at the funeral home on West Street, St Anthony. The funeral service was held at 2 p. m. on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the United Church with Rev. McGonigle officiating. MAHAR, LEMORE VINCENT
Port Saunders

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lemore Mahar announce his passing on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at his family residence at the age of 55 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Imelda; sons Fraser (Melissa) of Mission, British Columbia and Casey of Vancouver, British Columbia; grandson Ethan of Mission; brothers Clarence (Shari) of Port Moody, British Columbia, Francis (Daisy) of River of Ponds, Stan (Doreen) of Bonavista, Anthony and David (Pam) of Edmonton, Alberta, and Luke and Brendan (Winnie) of Bird Cove; sisters Rona (Brad) and Lucy (Terrance) Chambers of Edmonton, Alice (Joe) Caines, Elisa (Frank), Madeline (Michael John) Pittman of Bird Cove and Clarice (James Manuel) Caines of Oshawa, Ontario, as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Luke and Leona Mahar. The family received friends at Fillatre's Funeral Home in Port au Choix on Sunday and Monday. The funeral service was held at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 with Rev. Roger officiating. Interment followed at the Interfaith Cemetery in Sandy Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port au Choix.

MATCHIM, FLORENCE
Main Brook

Passed peacefully away on April 14, 2006, Florence Matchim, age 95 years. Leaving to mourn children Theresa, Paul (Florence), Cecilia (James), Donald (Ilean) and Stanley (Denise); grandchildren Sharon (Robert), Deloras (Gorden), Gary (Tracey), Dennis (Gloria), Deanna (Bruce), Laura (Kent), Shane (Deanna), Lynn, Michael (Jody), Sharon, Jason, Kimberly (Kyle), Joann, Sherry and Eddie; 26 great-grandchildren; sister Susie Simms, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph and daughters Susie and Millicent. Visitation took place at the Roman Catholic Church in Main Brook from where the funeral service was held on Monday, April 17 with Fr. Muchena officiating. Interment followed in the Roman Catholic cemetery in Nameless Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Levinia Caines Fillatre, funeral director.

HOUSE, HIRAM HARRI
Daniel’s Harbour
April 19, 1921 - April 14, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hiram Harris House announce his passing on Friday, April, 14, 2006 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 84th year. He will be sadly missed by his son Stewart of Daniel’s Harbour; grandchildren Calvin of Daniel’s Harbour, Kimberly Caines (John Elliott) of Miramachi, New Brunswick, Heather (Fred) Bell of Corner Brook, Lisa (John) Hann of Woody Point, and Lorna House (Anthony Carey) and Paula House (Lesley Brophy), both of Daniel’s Harbour; great-grandchildren Jenna Caines, Kayla Bell, April Hann, Natasha Caines, Kristina Bell, Dylan House, Matthew House and Christi Hann; great- great-granddaughter Jade House; brother Lloyd House and sister-in-law Rachel House; Aunt Vera Combdon of St. John’s; his extended family Uncle Gorman Payne of Daniel’s Harbour, Uncle Henry Payne of Toronto, Mary House of Daniel’s Harbour and Greta House of New Ferolle, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Beatrice in June 2000, father Grant House in 1970 andmother Charlotte in 1987, daugher-in-law Bernice House in Sept. 2005, brother Ralph in Nov., 1999 and sister-in- law Kathleen House in June 1998. Visitation took place at the Anglican Church in Daniel’s Harbour from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 16 with Canon Olsson officiating. Interment followed at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake.

GILLARD, STENNIE WILLIAM
Roddickton

Passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006, Stennie William Gillard, age 74 years. Leaving to mourn his wife Shirley of Roddickton; sons Derick (Donna) of South River, Dexter (Della) of St. John's and Travis (Inga) of Roddickton; daughters Doris Norman (Lloyd) of Roddickton, Rhonda Power (Tony) and Bonnie Goguen (Robert) of Ottawa, Ontario; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers; four sisters, and other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 with Rev. Cassell officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Levinia Caines Fillatre, funeral director.

BOWN, MELVIN RAYFIELD
October 6, 1944 - April 19, 2006

It was with great sadness that the family of Melvin Rayfield Bown announces his passing. Melvin was born in Twillingate to Howard and Gertrude Bown of Change Islands. He met and later married Joyce Parrill of Pines Cove. Melvin retired October 2004 after a 38,6 year teaching career. He devoted himself to his students in Flowers Cove, Change Islands, Carmenville, Rocky Harbour, St. Anthony and Port aux Basque. Melvin was predeceased by his father Howard. He leaves to mourn and will be forever missed by his wife Joyce of 42 years; sons Rodney (Velma) of Lewisporte, David (Linda) of Burin and Stephen (Gail) of Paradise; daughter Jocelyn (Kevin) of Woodstock, New Brunswick; grandchildren Matthew, Megan, Deborah, Madison, Bradley, Brittany, Joshua, Tyler and Mitchell and great-grandchild Gloria. Also left to mourn are his mother Gertrude; brothers Cyril (Bernadette), Nelson (Doreen), Bertram (Margaret), Raymond (Elizabeth), Addison (Irene) and Ernest (Wendy); sisters Linda (Cyril) and Daisy (Tom), as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and family friends. Visitation took place at Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home in Lewisporte on April 21. Thanks to Rev. Bernice Spracklin for the beautiful funeral service held on Saturday April 22, 2006 at St. Matthew's United Church in Lewisporte. Interment followed at St. Matthew's Cemetery. WALSH, BRYANT LAWRENCE
Flowers Cove

Passed peacefully away on April 20, 2006, Bryant Walsh of Flowers Cove in his 63rd year. Left with fond and loving memories his beloved wife Edie (Payne); children Jason (Lorraine), Chantel (Darrell) and Michael (Vonnie); grandsons Nicholas and Carter; nother Juanita Walsh; brothers Mike (Pearl) and Bill (Carol); sisters Lucy (Paul), Betty (Mark) and Gloria (Keith); aunt Betty Spence and godchild Velda, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, in- laws, other family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Lawrence. The funeral service was held at the Anglican Church in Flowers Cove at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 24 with Fr. Hynes officiating. At Bryant's request cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

KENNEDY, MARK
Bird Cove

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mark Kennedy announces his passing on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Isabel; daughters Jessie (Pius), Rosalie (John) and Agnes (Romeo), all of Bird Cove; sons Dale of Bird Cove, Mark (Diana) of Corner Brook, Lyman (Marie) of Pond Cove, John (Audrey) of Okotoks, Alberta, Howard (Donna) of Alton, Ontario and Robert (Kerri) of Bird Cove; sisters Mary (Ambrose) of Bird Cove and Imelda (the late Lemore) of Port Saunders ; brothers Aloysius (Betty), Wes (Marie) and Pat of Brampton, Ontario and Chris (Mary) of St. John’s; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents Sylvester and Elizabeth, brothers John (Agnes) and Dorman (Vera) and his daughter Lorie. The funeral service was held at Our Lady of Grace Church in Bird Cove at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24 with Fr. Ambrose Hynes officiating.

LODER, VIOLET JESSIE
Cook's Harbour

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre on April 20, 2006, Violet Jessie Loder in her 84th year. Leaving to mourn her brother George (Mary) Elliott of Main Brook; sisters Grace Patey and Gladys (Wilfred) Elliott of St. Anthony; sisters-in-law Amelia and Jessie Elliott of St. Anthony and Dora and Phyllis Loder of Cook's Harbour, and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Loder, parents Lot and Rachel Elliott and brothers Fredrick and Ernest Elliott. Visitation was held at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 at the Anglican Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Brenton-Hickman officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery in Cook's Harbour. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

DECKER, GARLAND

Passed peacefully away on April 26, 2006, Garland Decker of St. Anthony of 82 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 50 years Janie; children Anne (Matthew), Jim (Seamon), Patty (Scott) and Alison; grandchildren Jennifer, Kristopher, Isaac, Ethan and Levi; brother Ross (Iris), Weldon (Audrey) and Guy (Ida); sisters Shirley, Juanita (Clyde), Bell (Des) and Lois; sisters-in-law Elsie and Ena; brother-in-law Alec Crocker, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home on West Street, St. Anthony. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay, funeral director.

WILCOX, WILFRED
Roddickton

Passed peacefully away at John M. Gray Centre on April 30, 2006, Wilfred Wilcox, age 90 years. Leaving to mourn wife Pearl; sons Neil (Louise) of St. Anthony, Wilson (Sherry) of Barrie, Ontario, Fred (Sharon) and Kirby of Tilton; Gideon (Katie) of Roddickton, and Sterlin and Junior of Scarborough, Ontario; six grandchildren; son great-grandchild; two brothers; one sister, and many other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 4 with Rev. Cassell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Lee Nipard, funeral director.
