ANSTEY, Ella Melinda Rose
(August 6, 1924 - May 8, 2014)

Passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the North Haven Manor, Lewisporte, NL, Mrs. Ella Melinda Rose Anstey, aged 89 years of Embree, NL. She is predeceased by her husband, Harry; parents, Samuel and Bertha Pelley; brothers, Willis and Roy; sisters, Pearl and Ivy. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Nolan (Linda), Mary Kay (Olaf), Andrew (Catherine), Sharon, Paul (Trudy); grandchildren, Paul (Glenda), Irving, Peter, Janice (Andy), Mark (Tracy), Beth (Steve), Stephen, Jonathan (Sara), Timothy (Allyssa), Jennifer (Alex), Amy and Kurstyn; great-grandchildren, Derika, Danielle and Ella; brother, Eric (Maud); sister-in-law, Shirley and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Public visitation took place Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 7-9 pm from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte,NL, Sunday, May 11, 2014, 2-4 & 7-9 PM, & Monday, May 12, 2014 at 2-4 & 7-9 pm from the Pentecostal Church in Embree, NL. The Funeral Service took place Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 2 pm from the Pentecostal Church, Embree, NL. Interment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Embree, NL. Pallbearers were her grandsons Irving Pelley, Paul Strange, Peter Strange, Mark Strange, Stephen Anstey and Timothy Strange. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Canadian Feed The Children". BAKER, R. Ford

R. Ford Baker
of Laurenceton, NL passed away at North Haven Manor, Lewisporte on May 18, 2014 at the age of 90. Ford was born in Laurenceton on Feb. 7, 1924 to May and Peter Baker. On Aug. 12, 1948, he married Edna Tetford. They were married in Laurenceton and there raised a family of seven. Ford worked in the woods for many years. He also, along with one of his brothers operated a sawmill in the town of Laurenceton. Later, he joined the Department of Transportation and continued there until his retirement in 1989. Ford was a very hard worker and liked to build things. He will ever be remembered for his kind and gentle nature and his wit. He was predeceased by his parents May and Peter Baker, brothers Dorman and Arthur, and sisters Belle, Hilda and Janet. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Edna, children Marilyn (Dexter), Barbara (Howard), Vida (Cyril), Barry (Karen), Kathy (Les), Jackie (Owen) and Darlene (Jody), 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brothers Edgar and Harold (Winnie), sisters Grace and Alice (Leslie) and brother-in-law Stan. A funeral service was held at Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Laurenceton, NL on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. Interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Laurenceton.
He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.

- Passed Peacefully away on May 18, 2014 at Lakeside Homes, Gander at the age of 94 years. Leaving to mourn: son Ben (Marjorie) Brenson; grandson John Brenson; granddaughter Sherry Lynn (Stephen) Decker; four great grandchildren: Macenzie and Haley Brenson, and Emily and Gabriel Decker; three sisters-in-law: Susie Bungay, Hettie Watkins, and Joyce (Thomas) Marr; and two brothers-in-law: Chesley (Alma) Guy and Frank (Alma) Guy. The funeral service was held from St. Peter's Anglican Church, Twillingate, on May 21st, 2014 with interment at the North Side United cemetery, Sunset Crescent. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate.

HICKS, Jim
(May 15, 1954 - May 10, 2014)

Passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Carmelite Palliative Care Unit, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Mr. James Hicks, aged 59 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Elmo and Ida Hicks; wife, Pansy; baby brother, Gerald and sister, Olga Mills. Left to mourn his passing are his sons, James (Franca) and Jay; granddaughter, Lucy Mae; siblings, Faye (Eric), Sandy (Florence), Flossie (Cyril), Roxy (Richard), Aubrey (Patsy), Ada (Byron), Roy (Edna), Randy (George), Montie (Elaine) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Public visitation took place Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 7-9 pm from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, Lewisporte, NL. Monday, May 12, 2014, at 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm from The Salvation Army Church, Comfort Cove, NL The Funeral Service took place Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 2 pm from The Salvation Army Church, Comfort Cove, NL. Interment followed from the Pentecostal Cemetery, Comfort Cove, NL As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations were made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Pallbearers were Sandy Hicks, Randy Hicks, James Hicks, Bond Cooper, Byron Saunders, Leroy Hicks, Cyril Peddle, & Kaywood Canning. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, Lewisporte, NL.

JANES, P. Roger
P. Roger Janes
of Traytown, NL (formerly of Clarenville NL), passed away suddenly at Dartmouth, NS on May 13, 2014, age 86 yrs. Predeceased by sisters Vera Meenan and Isabel Janes, brother George Janes and brothers-in-law Robert Meenan and Gary Ivany. Lovingly remembered by his wife Olive (Young), sister Violetta (Babs) Ivany, Ottawa, brother John Janes (Ada), Clarenville, sister-in-law Reta Phillips, Clarenville; brother-in-law Allan Young (Marie), Twillingate, nieces Doreen Dalley, Linda Murray, Susan Rooney, Dian Brady, Katherine Ferris, Elizabeth Sutton, Doreen de Munnik, Karen Currie, and nephews Robert Janes and Gerald Ivany. Also several great nieces and great nephews whom he adored, as well as a special cousin Sadie Thistle and many friends throughout Canada and the United States. His career spanned 35 years with the Newfoundland Health Department and at retirement he was the administrator of the Gander Hospital District. A Memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Memorial United Church, Clarenville, NL on Saturday, June 28, at 2 pm. Interment at the United Church Cemetery, Clarenville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Memorial United Church, Clarenville.
Roger was well known for his love of people and music. He will be greatly missed by many.

MANUEL, Gladys
(September 8, 1917 - May 17, 2014)

It is with sadness that the families of the late GLadys Manuel announce her passing at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital Centre, Twillingate, NL aged 96. years. Glady is predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Eliza Jenkins Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Barry, (Ella), Junior (Lorraine), Winston (Marie), Leo (Marge), & Goldie (Mitch); 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. PAYNTER, Dalvin Alexander
(May 29, 1980 - May 5, 2014)

Passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Carmellite House, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Dalvin Alexander Paynter, age 33 years of Stoneville, NL. He is predeceased by his brother, David; grandparents, Garfield and Lillian Hodder, Stewart & Mary Paynter. Left to mourn his passing are his parents, Alexander & Isabel Paynter; aunts and uncles, John (Marcella) Paynter, Kevin Paynter, Elsie Paynter, Gerald (Joy) Hodder, Winnie (Freeman Bennett), Wayne Hodder, Marilyn (Hector Earle), Alonzo (Marie) Hodder, Roxanne (Monty Norman), Doreen (Samer Stephan), Ray (Effie) Hodder, Scott (Evelyn) Kinden, Eugene (Mary)Hodder; as well as a large circle of cousins, other relatives and friends. Public visitation will take place Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm from the Pentecostal Church, Stoneville, NL. The funeral service will take place Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 2 pm from the Pentecostal Church, Stoneville, NL. Interment to follow from the United Church Cemetery, Stoneville, NL. Pallbearers were his aunts, Marilyn Earle, Doreen Stephan, Elsie Paynter; cousins, Rhonda Francis, Marlene Gillingham and Susan Hodder. As expressions of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, NL.

SPENCER, Effie Blanch (Hart)
(January 24, 1927 - May 4, 2010)

Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Tuesday, May 4th, Mrs. Effie (Hart) Spencer of Baytona, age 83 years. The funeral service was held on Friday, May 7th at 2:00 pm from the Pentecostal Church, Baytona. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Pentecostal Church Cemetery Fund will be gratefully accepted.
