Jack, born December 22, 1932 in Botwood, passed peacefully away on Saturday July 9, 2016 at the Central Newfoundland Hospital in Grand Falls - Windsor after a 4 year battle with multiple myeloma.
Jack leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Daphne; children, Kathy, Craig and Kim (John) Oake; grandchildren, Matthew (Kassaundra), Jessica, and Jonathon; brother, David (Victoria); sisters, Marie (William) Losasso, Beryl (Bruce) Manuel, Josephine (Brian) Taylor and Lorraine (Larry) Renard; brother -in-law, Owen (Phyllis) Langdon; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jack is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Violet Edison; sister, Joyce (Doug) Wheeler and granddaughter, Sarah.
His career started as a radio operator spending time in Frobisher Bay. He progressed to become an Electronic Technician. Jack and Daph arrived in Lewisporte in 1958 and made this community their home while he worked in Loon Bay-Comfort Cove with Transport Canada.
Jack, a hockey player himself, served his community with Minor Hockey as a coach, and a member of the original Stadium Committee. He also refereed High School and Senior Hockey Leagues. He was a Master Mason of the Lewisporte Masonic Lodge and an active member of the Lewisporte Shrine Club. He was a superb cook!! His signature dishes were Crab Salad, Moose with Cabbage, and Grilled Steak on an open fire. His presentation of lobster, for ease of enjoyment, was outstanding. He could work magic with a cast iron frypan!
He was an avid outdoorsman, adventurer and explorer in all seasons. He even acquired his guide license before retirement. He camped, boated, snowmobiled, hunted and fished with his primary passion being salmon fishing.
He inspired and supported his wife, children and grandchildren. He spent numerous hours on the road getting to the next stadium with Jessica and Jonathon. He hunted and fished with Matthew from St. John's to Nain, Labrador.
He instilled in us the concept that we all could be, all we wanted to be!!
