27 Years Ago. This date, 1882, three men named respectively, Patrick Barron, St. John's; John Roach, Torbay; and Matthew Mercer, Topsail, were killed in a railway accident at Indian Pond. The injured men were: John Ryan (the present City Engineer), W. Ryan, J. Molloy and J. Whelan.

Note of Thanks. - I wish to thank Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mills of Mills' Siding, for their kind attention to me during my six weeks stay at their home with a broken leg; also Messrs. Wm. Mills and Sons for making all arrangements to secure the doctor whenever he was wanted, and for doing what lay in their power to make my enforced stay there as pleasant as possible.
