BRAKE, Leslie John
Corner Brook

It is with regret and sorrow that the family of the late Leslie John Brake announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998 at the age of 87 years. He will be sadly missed with fond and loving memories by his family: son: Eric (Jean) Brake residing in Meadows; daughters: Jean (Ambrose Jr.) Buckingham of Corner Brook, and Marcedus (Allan) Castle of San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law: Frances Brake of Meadows; brother: Murdoch (Isabell) of Meadows; sisters: Marie Loder and Veda Hann, both of Summerside; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Hector Brake and Mrs. Frank Brake of Meadows; 11 grandchildren: Norman Powell, Warwick, John and Jason Buckingham, Cynthia Park, Maureen Blanchard, Sheila Tucker, Lisa Eckert, Blaine, Mark and Paul Castle; 15 great-grandchildren and also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mr. Brake was predeceased by his wife: Ethel in 1979; son: James; parents: Jeremiah and Mary Em Brake; sister: Riley Hunt; brothers: Hector, Clayton and Frank. The funeral service took place on Sunday, Nov. 15 from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral, with Archbishop Payne and The Very Rev. Lorne Gosse, Dean of the Cathedral officiating. The interment followed at the family plot at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Wellington Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

CASSELL, Blanche Edith
Jackson’s Arm

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Blanche Edith Cassell announce her passing on Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in her 81st year. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 60 years: Mark; one son: Alvin (Ivy) of Deer Lake; two daughters: Daphne (Arthur Osmond) of Jackson’s Arm and Shirley (Hedley Eveleigh) of Seal Cove; one step-daughter: Joyce (Malcom Hounsell) of Pasadena; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; six sisters: Nita Davis, Frances Cassell, Pearl (Max Upshall), Sadie (Fred Wicks), Nora (Lush Seaward), and Marina (Bill Barry); two brothers: Malcom Hounsell (Joyce) and Douglas Hounsell (Patsy); two sisters-in-law: Mamie Hounsell and Bernice Hounsell. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral service took place on Thursday, Nov. 12 from The Anglican Church in Jackson’s Arm, Rev. Roberta Woodman officiating. The interment followed at the family plot. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake.

DAY, Derek Gordon
Burgeo

Passed away as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, Derek Gordon Day in his 26th year. He leaves to mourn: one son: Brandon; one daughter: Tiffany; girlfriend: Trina Youngs; parents: Michael and Ena Day, all from Burgeo; one brother: Norman (Marjorie), Bear Cove; one sister: Margaret, Burgeo; one nephew: Thomas; and a number of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. The funeral service took place on Thursday, Nov. 12 from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Burgeo, with Rev. Byron Barter officiating. The interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.

DEWLING, Mary Belinda (nee Walters)
Sept. 25, 1905 - Nov. 11, 1998

It is with deep regret and sadness that the family of the late Mary Belinda Dewling announce her passing at the Interfaith Home for Senior Citizens on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998 at the age of 93 years. She will be sadly missed with fond and loving memories by her family, her son: Ronald (Dorothy) residing at Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters: Doris (Karl) residing at Corner Brook, and Barbara (Stanley) residing at Trinity, Trinity Bay; step-son: Norman (Madeline) at Toronto; step-daughters: Annabelle at Montreal, and Marjorie at New Jersey; sisters: Winnifred at Calgary, Sadie (Eddie) at Prince Albert, Sask.; daughters-in-law: Joan at North Bay and Shirley at Montreal; sons-in-law: Cecil at Montreal and Mike at Trepassey; 40 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren. She will be also missed by a large circle of nephews, nieces, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband: Ronald in 1963; her sons: Bob in 1989, Joe in 1997, and Jim in 1998; her daughters: Nellie in 1984, Velma and Mary in 1990; brothers: Norman and Elam; sisters: Ada, Alfreda, Hazel, Judy, and Angelina; son-in-law: Wilfred; daughter-in-law: Eileen. The funeral service took place on Saturday, Nov. 14 from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Trinity East, Trinity Bay, with John Gillam officiating. The interment followed at the family plot at Trinity East. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Wellington Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

HYNES, Lily
Pollards Point

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lily Hynes wish to announce her passing on Nov. 12, 1998 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in her 74th year. She will be sadly missed by her three daughters: Yvonne (Ralph) Pittman of Pollards Point, Ruby (Albert) Hawkins of Pollards Point and Judy Hynes of York, Ontario; one son: Perry (Shirley) of Etobicoke, Ontario; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Watson and Hedley; one sister: Virtue Budden. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband: Herman; two brothers: George and William; two sisters: Mae and Geraldine. The funeral service took place on Sunday, Nov. 15 from St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Pollards Point, with Rev. Roberta Woodman officiating. The interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery in Pollards Point. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.

JANES, Craig Randolph
Curling

It is with regret and sorrow the family of the late Craig Randolph Janes announce his sudden passing at the early age of 31 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving family: his mother Greta Abbott and husband Ross Brake, residing at Curling; his father, Gordon Janes and wife Cecilia, residing at Boswarlos; brothers, Stuart (Sandy), David (Jusenda), Lyndon, and Perry (Tia), all of Edmonton, Alta.; John of Exeter, Ont., Sheldon of Coquitlam, B.C.; sisters, Emma of Edmonton, Alta., and Amanda (Frankie) of Sania, Ont. Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Salvation Army Citadel with Major Gerald Lacey officiating. Interment followed at the Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Wellington Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

MEANEY, Dorothy (Dora)
Corner Brook

It is with regret and sorrow the family of the late Dorothy (Dora) Meaney announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in her 100th year. She will be sadly missed with fond and loving memories by her family: one son, Michael and wife Mary of Corner Brook; five grandchildren, John (Debbie), Wynne Anne (Joe), Michelle (Bob), Donna (Brent), and Catherine (Mike); four great-grandchildren, Bradley, Samantha, Jake and Hannah; two sisters, Agnes Hubley, and Loretta Chaisson; a special niece, Sister Theresa March; and also a large circle of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mrs. Meaney was predeceased by her sisters, Theresa and Nora, and brothers, Marty, Bill, Johnny and Osbourne. Funeral services were held Monday from the Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Cathedral with Fr. Peddle officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wellington Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

POWER, Ignatius (Nash)
Corner Brook

Passed away on Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Ignatius (Nash) Power, at the age of 83 years. Mr. Power was a war veteran who served in World War II. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Edna (nee Ingram); 12 children: Ethel and husband Ray Brace; Dave and wife Maxine; Ada and husband Lloyd Gillam, Gerald and wife Donna, Barbara and husband Marty Roberts, Georgina and husband John Kartechner, Kevin and wife Brenda, Grace and husband Keith Kennedy, Annette and husband Brian Rowsell, Michael and companion Peggy, Tony and wife Debbie, and Hubert; 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen; brothers: Jack, Joe and Lawrence, and sisters: Lillian Power, Bride Hinks, and Mary Lush. The funeral service was held Wednesday from All Hallows Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. William Boone officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

RUSSELL, Lucy Marie (nee Vickers)
Massey Drive

It is with regret that the family of the late Lucy Marie Russell announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at the age of 86 years. She will be sadly missed by her loving family: two sons: Bill (Eileen) and John (Elizabeth) all of Corner Brook; four grandchildren: Nancy (Gary) Rogers, Billy Russell, Pamela and Christine Russell all of Corner Brook; one foster child: Donna Jesso residing in Vancouver, BC; and also a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband: William in 1973; her brother: William in 1984. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from The Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Cathedral, with Father Peddle officiating. The interment will follow at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Wellington Funeral Home, Corner Brook.

SNOOKS, Katherine Geraldine (nee Hynes)

Passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Katherine Snooks in her 69th year. She leaves to mourn five daughters: Dolores (Jerry) Park, Jean (Danny) Payne, Susan (Glenn) West, Corner Brook, Marie (Don) Marks, Halifax, NS, Patsy (Dan) Wheeler, Frenchman’s Cove; three sons: Dave (Mary), Don (Rosemarie), Lew (Marilyn); one stepdaughter: Sadie (Rick) Edwards; 24 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; special grandchildren: Tina and Steven Snooks; sister: Catherine Ozon, Benoit’s Cove; brother: Ambrose Hynes, Victoria, B.C.; sister-in-law: Ivy Macfayden, Toronto, ON; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband: Gordon, Nov. 8, 1984. The funeral service took place on Friday, Nov. 13 from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Curling Street with Father Bernard Buckle officiating. The interment followed at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.

WHITE, George Wilson
Cox’s Cove

It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Wilson White announce his passing on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 82nd year. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife: Enid (nee Payne); three sons: Kenneth (Fran) of Val Des Montes, Quebec, Lloyd (Gwen) of Alberta, and Charles (Marion) of Kitchener, Ontario; five daughters: Marion, Barbara (Terry), Neta (Jack), Eva (Jim) all of Kitchener, Ontario, and Lynda of Wearton, Ontario; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral service took place on Saturday, Nov. 14 from St. Nicholas Anglican Church in Cox’s Cove, with Rev. Lockyer officiating. The interment followed at the family plot. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake.

Passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook William Young in his 63rd year. He leaves to mourn his wife: Elsie Blanche (nee Strickland); three daughters: Clara (Bill) Crant and Charlotte (Lawrence), Burgeo, Elsie (Derek) Warren, Ramea; two grandchildren: Amanda and Jeanette: four brothers: Hayward (Loretta), Burgeo, Tom (Charlotte) and Freeman (Joanne), Fortune, Jim (Nadia), Toronto, ON; two sisters: Phyllis (Bill) Young, Ramea, Mary (Albert) Cobbs, Ontario; sisters-in-law: Annie Strickland, Burgeo, Mary (Leo) Pye, Halifax; brother-in-law: Jim (Annie) Strickland, Ramea; and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents: John and Clara Young; brother-in-law: Douglas Strickland. The funeral service took place on Friday, Nov. 13 from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Burgeo, Rev. Byron Barter officiating. The interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home.
