LANNON, Samuel Francis
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, November 16, 2020

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, Sam Lannon, on November 13, 2020 in Dart mouth General Hospital after a short but courageous battle with leukemia. Born to the late Leo and Florrie (Pritchett) Lannon in St. John's, N.L., Dad grew up in and around St. John's. He attended St. Bonaventure College and later became a member of the St. Bon's hockey team, where he was described in the local press as the "amazing St. Bon's goaltender" and the "bespectacled puckstopper who wears a plastic facemask" (St. John's Telegram). After a brief stint working with the Canadian Department of Transport in Iqualit, Nunavut, Dad decided to return to school (and hockey). He relocated to Halifax where he attended Saint Mary's University and was a proud member of the Saint Mary's Huskies varsity hockey team.

After graduation, he and his new bride, Moreen, settled in Cole Harbour and Dad started his career with Revenue Canada. After the tragic loss of his wife and partner at a young age, Dad becamea single parent and devoted his time to his kids, spending most nights at hockey games, parent teacher conferences and band concerts. He was also able to continue with his love of hockey, playing for many years in the Old Timers league in Cole Harbour, as well as being a founding member of the Colby Village Men's slo pitch league.

On his retirement from Revenue Canada, Dad picked up golf and enjoyed many (cold and wet) days with the guys at Hartlen Point. When not golfing, Dad kept busy with his many renovation projects around the house. Dad continued to support the Saint Mary's Huskies and rarely missed a chance to watch his old team over the years. He was a faithful member and volunteer of the Saint John XXIII Church. Everyone that knew Dad, knew how important his family was to him. Dad enjoyed his retirement years visiting Chris and family across Canada, Andrew and Selloua in Europe and the Middle East and spending time with Colleen and her young family in Cole Harbour.

Dad was predeceased by his wife, Moreen; his parents, Leo and Florrie; and his parents-in-law, Michael and Sarah Martin. He is survived by his children, Chris (Amber), Andrew (Selloua) and Colleen (Greg); his grandchildren, Moreen, Clare, Charlotte and Leo; and his siblings, Regina, Kingston; Philip, Toronto; and Paula, Iqualit. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, siblings-in-law and cousins in the Lannon, Pritchett and Martin families.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 19th at 11 a.m. in Saint John XXIII Catholic Church, 2 Colby Dr., Cole Harbour. As per COVID-19 protocol, those attending the mass are asked to contact: lannonfamily31@gmail.com to attend. Online condolences can be made at: ww.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca obits. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Canadian Blood Services.
