CHAPMAN, Andrew Horace
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, May 5, 2020

Born in St. John's, N.L., on April 10, 1965. Andy passed peacefully at home in Bedford, with his life-partner by his side on May 2, 2020. His zest for living, his boundless energy and his incredible strength had been evident throughout his private and professional life, especially in the past ten years while battling cancer and undergoing numerous operations. Andy's career began in the early 80's as a fisherman on both inshore and offshore vessels. After completing a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in Management and Marketing at Mount Saint University, he built and managed a processing facility and eventually returned to sea with DFO enforcement. In the mid 90's Andy became Newfoundland operations manager for fish quality inspectors, covering thousands of vessel landings per year. Later he moved to Nova Scotia as an Industrial Liaison Officer for the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation, covering the Maritime region. Here he conducted scientific assessments of various marine species as well as assessing efficiencies in both the harvesting and processing sectors. He also developed and facilitated numerous seafood quality training programs reaching thousands of fish harvesters and processors for government, industry associations, universities and community colleges.

To describe Andrew would be to say he was kind and thoughtful, clever and witty, dramatic, magnetic, couldn't keep a secret, told it like it was, life of the party, relatable, sensitive, neighborhood protector, pet-lover, unforgettable, risk-taker, lover of the outdoors, assigner of nicknames, avid boater, motorcyclist and snowmobiler and a loving partner. Andrew will be remembered and missed greatly by those who knew and loved him, especially his family; his soulmate and wife, Lenora; stepchildren, Christine and Brandon; grandchildren, Lowen and Norahlee; siblings, Shelagh, Bruce, Philip and Heather; in-laws, Ann, Jackie and Dave; nephews and nieces Kevin, Anthony, Aaron, Danny, Alex, David, Julia, and Laura; uncles, aunt, and cousins; and fur-babies Whiskey, Rascal, and Chloe. Andrew was predeceased by his mother and father, Helen and Gerald; and his infant daughter, Beth. There will a private family burial, and a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online Condolences may be made at: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com

THORNE, Henry
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, April 17, 2020

Age 75, passed away Friday April 3, 2020. Born in Newfoundland, but lived in Timberlea most of his life. He was the son of the late Jobe and Susanna (Smurridge) Thorne. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia (Morven) Thorne; son, Terry; daughter, Susan; Grandfather or "Pa" to Tabitha and Savannah who overflowed his heart with such love and joy that he received back tenfold; sisters, Marie Griffen and Elizabeth Robia, many nieces and nephews; sisters and brothers-in-law. Predeceased by sister, Annie Billard.

He was a hard worker and enjoyed many years in construction, and was well-known in all the trades for his devilish tricks both given and taken, leaving us many stories to share with family and friends. Henry was proud of his trade and a member of Local 83 Carpenters Union receiving a 50 year gold membership card in 2019. Henry's deepest love was family, he made us laugh, cry and love more. His children, grandchildren, along with all family and friends knew his genuine delight to tease, play tricks, and start water fights. His laugh was contagious and showed us how to enjoy life. He had a passion for helping others, and as a member of K.O.C. alongside of lifelong friends. They volunteered for many events to which he brought his big heart, generous hugs, and warm smile. Henry enjoyed crib, joking around, coffee at Tim's with the guys, and getting together with his Casino family. Most recently joined local bowling teams making new friends, and having so much fun, every spare and strike followed by a Newfie Jig. After Sunday Mass you would find Henry and Patsy having brunch with Alice and Bob, children and grandchildren when they can, followed by long walks on the waterfront. He would always have a pocket full of treats for all the new dogs he met on the way. He would talk to everyone calling them brother, sister or buddy asking "where are you from." Henry left this world with endless amounts of kindness and laughter, he never took life to serious and would do anything to put a smile on someone's face. Henry will be waiting with open arms for his loving wife as the devoted and caring husband he will always be. For the rest of us, it's a toss-up be tween a hug and a bucket of water to greet us (probably both) Henry would say "There is no such thing as strangers, just friends we haven't met yet". Special thanks to Dr. Conter for always being there and who knew Henry's Hugs. Also 7A Palliative care "Angels". Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to family by visiting: www.tjtracey.com
