Billard, Wilbert Gordon
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, Nova Scotia, September 13, 2019

Aged 96, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2019, at his home in Windsor. Born in Grand Bruit, N.L., son of the late Henry and Bessie (Riles) Billard. Wilbert came to Nova Scotia when he was 17 and joined the Merchant Navy. He served until 1942 when he went to work at the Halifax Shipyards where he worked for over 41 years, retiring in 1983. During the Second World War he served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the second Canadian CBO Staff Second Corps RCA. He was part of the occupation force in Nijmegen, Holland from 1945-1946 with the 14th Field RCA, 66 Battery. He received the 1939-1945 France and Germany Stars, Defense of Britain Volunteer Medal, Victory Medal, Canada 125th Birthday, Meritorius Service Medal and the Palm Leaf. Regimental number F56015.

He was known as Bill by his Legion friends and held almost every position in the Legion since joining in 1959. He was a Past President and a lifetime member of Fairview Branch 142 Legion. Received the Queens Jubilee Medal and 60 years Legion award (2018). He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Lower Sackville where he served on the council and helped out at many functions.

Beloved husband of 67 years to the late Edith (DeGruchy) Billard (Rencontre West, N.L.) Loving father of Wilbert James (Florence) Billard, Elizabeth (James) Wright. Loved Papa of Heather Wright (Jon Lowthers), Meagan (Tyler) Shaw and great Papa of Rebecca and Abbygail Shaw. Dear brother of the late Sim Billard (Miriah), late Jack (Elizabeth) Billard, late Mable (late Ken) Billard, late George (Edna) Billard, Rod (late Madeline) Billard, Wendell Billard, Mike (Georgina) Billard, late Gerald (late Sophie) Billard, late Eric (Nancy), Julia (Bob) Annand, Lillian (Frank) Hann. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Home Care Coordinator Judy Miller and all the ladies that looked after Dad. Also to the DVA for all of their support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choosing. A Celebration of Life service will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church, 954 Old Sackville Rd., Lower Sackville on Tuesday, September 17th, at 11 a.m. Reception to be held after the service in the church hall.


BONNELL, Howard George
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, September 24, 2019

Of Halifax. With heartfelt sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Howard George Bonnell, age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle on Sunday, September 22, 2019 in Northwood Centre in Halifax. Born in Lamaline, N.L. on May 31, 1941, he was a son of the late Lewis and Beatrice (Hepditch) Bonnell.

Howard had a number of jobs throughout his life. He was first employed as a milkman for Cape Breton Dairy, and later, for 28 years, he travelled through Eastern Nova Scotia and Western Newfoundland with Creighton's Food Brokerage. He also drove the ice roads in Manitoba and then later worked for Tom MacDonald Trucking before retirement. He loved his early morning walks in the woods, Newfoundland music and spending time with his family and friends. Howard was a longtime member of St. Columba United Church in Leitches Creek. He then became a member of Aurora Church after his move to Halifax. Howard had genuine faith in God and a love of the scriptures that sustained him through life.

He is survived by his wife, Judith (Sams) Bonnell; his children, Tammy (Forbes) MacDonald, Georges River; Jeff Bonnell (Julia), Squamish, B.C.; Melanie Bonnell, Sydney; Melissa Bonnell (Matt), Meaghers Grant; his grandchildren, Meaghan, Sam, Ainslie, Kate, William, Phoebe and Eli; also survived by his sister, Millie (Lorne) Jennex, Leitches Creek; his brothers, Claude (Phyllis), Middleton; Derek (Shirley), Sydney; Melvin (Ann), Abbotsford, B.C.; Arthur (Vicky), Regina, Sask.; Raymond (Elayne), Orleans, Ont.; Lewis (Mary), Mountain Road, Sydney, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws, Ralph and Dorothy Sams, Jean Billard, Flona Sams and Verna MacIntosh. Howard was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Moira and Judy and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Billard, Sandy Sams and Keith MacIntosh. A special thank you to all Howard's former co-workers far and wide for their friendship and support over the years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and believed Galatians 6v7 that says, "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people."

Visitation for Howard will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in St. Columba United Church with burial to follow in Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek. CHAFE, Darren Ray
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, September 12, 2019

Age 49 of Middle Sackville, passed away suddenly on September 9, 2019, in Cobequid Health Centre, Lower Sackville. Born in Labrador City, he was the only son of Margaret (Picco) and the late Ray Chafe. Darren was a quiet, gentle soul with a very loving heart. He enjoyed the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. Darren leaves behind his loving mother, Margaret; sisters, LeeAnn (Ron) Conway, Jackie (Rick) Pelley and Yvonne Chafe; nieces and nephews, Jordan, Kelsey, Jarrett, Courtney, Cody, Cassandra, Jessica, Trystan and a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place under the care of Atlantic Funeral Homes. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow, all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Age 50 of Lower Sackville, died September 1, 2019 in Digby General Hospital. Born in Harbour Breton, N.L. to the late Francis Forsey and Archibald Harris. Survived by fiance, Sylvia LeBoutillier; sons, Tyler Moore, Stephen Harris, Beaver Bank; siblings, Wayne Harris, Verona, Ont.; Fred Harris, Gould's, N.L.; Garfield Harris, Calvin Harris, Colin Harris, Christina Meade, Sarah Ruggles, Chezzetcook; Bernie Harris, Halifax; Corey Harris, Dartmouth. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5th, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service on Friday, September 6th at 2 p.m. with interment taking place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. MANSFIELD, Heber
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, Nova Scotia, September 11, 2019

Age 93 of Halifax, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2019 in The Admiral Long Term Care Centre, with his family by his side. He was born in Hants Harbour, Trinity Bay, N.L., on May 11, 1926. He was a son of the late Archibald and Susie Mansfield. Heber retired from Halifax Transit in 1989. He was a lifelong member of The Salvation Army, playing in the band for several years. He was an avid trout fisherman and in the winter months, would go rabbit hunting. He is survived by his daughters, Nettie (Pat) Murphy, Kitchener, Ont.; and Marie (John) Wamboldt, Halifax; sons, Chesley (Sandra), Halifax; and Stephen (Judy) Mississauga, Ont.; grandchildren, Paul, Pamela, Julie, Joanne, Meghan; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Alicia, Sarah, Rubie, Stella, Kenzie, and Levi. He was predeceased by his wife, Muerial Jean (Belben) Mansfield; brothers, Russell, George, Chesley; sisters, Annie and Dorothy. Visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth on Thursday, September 12th from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the same location on Friday, September 13th at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Halifax Citadel Community Church (Band). MOORE, Fanny
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, September 9, 2019

Age 94 of Windsor, formerly of Hants Border, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 in Haliburton Place, Windsor, her home for the last seven years. Born March 19, 1925 in Bay Roberts, N.L., Fanny was a daughter of the late Edward Ralph and Annie Blanche (Titford) Wilcox. Fanny operated Moore's Canteen in Hants Border for years. She was a long-time member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Hantsport, where she was warden and choir member. She was a past member of Rebekah Lodge for 36 years, Hantsport Elders and the Lucknow Branch 109 Ladies Auxiliary, Hantsport.

Fanny is survived by daughter, Annie May (Banford) Walsh; grandsons, Shawn and Todd Walsh; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, G. Frederick Moore; sister, Dorothy (Gus) Moore; brother, Eddie (Frances) Wilcox.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11th in St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 59 Main St., Hantsport, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Riverbank Cemetery, Riverbank Drive, Hantsport. A reception will be held in the church hall. No flowers by request. Power, Charles Joseph

Passed away peacefully in the QEII Health Scien ces Centre Emergency, Halifax, on September 12, 2019 at the age of 71 years. Charlie was a loving husband, friend, father and grandfather. Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Cecilia Power (Gander, N.L.); in-laws, Fred and Vera Lukins, Gander, N.L.; brothers, George and William; brother-in-law, Dave Fowler. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Carol (Lukins); son, Charles; daughter, Crystal (Raymond); and grandchildren. Also mourning Charlie's loss are his sisters, Marg (Rod Buchanan), Quebec; Anne Marie Fowler, St. John's, N..L; his brothers, Rick (Pat), Ottawa, Ont.; John, St. John's, N.L.; Chris (Cheryl), Lower Sackville; Robert (Deb), St. John's, N.L.; sister-in-law, Linda Fong, Grand Falls, N.L.; sister-in-law, Sheilagh (Len) Miller, Ontario; brother-in-law, John (Sheilah) Lukins, St. John's, N.L. Also left to mourn is Aunt Bride Glynn, Ontario, and many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Charlie was a Meteorologist retired from the Federal government and he worked for a number of years in private industry. Charlie and Carol loved to travel over the past number of years. Charlie was an avid golfer always with an eye to fun but yet improvement in his game. His living with Parkinson's was courageous and never kept him off the course. He had passions for dancing with Carol and their wonderful life together. His death was sudden and unexpected by all. A special thank you to his family and many friends.

Visitation will take place in J.A. Snow Funeral Home on 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax today, Saturday, September 14th from 5-8 p.m. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held on Sunday, September 15th at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow, all in J.A.
