COLBEAR, Melina "Ruth"
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, November 1, 2019

Age 63, Moser River, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born November 29, 1955 in Grand Falls, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Cyril "Cy" and Elizabeth (Hiscock) Farr. Ruth enjoyed camping, playing darts, pool, baking and was a loving mother and friend to everyone. She was an active member of Royal Canadian Legion, Sheet Harbour. Survived by husband, John; children, Theresa (Matt) Tipert, Eastern Passage; Aaron (Cassandra), Shearwater; seven grandchildren; siblings, Jill Carpenter, Robert and Donald Farr. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held November 29th, at 7 p.m. in the Buffalo Club, 625 Cow Bay Rd., Eastern Passage. HAINES, William Roy "Bill"

Age 88, of Kentville, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Coopers Cove, N.L., he was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Brown) Haines. Bill was a 30 year veteran of the RCMP having served in various detachments across the country. Following his retirement he had a 15 year career in sales of law enforcement merchandise. Bill was a member of the Kentville Masonic Lodge Number 58. He was an avid curler and loved to golf. He is survived by daughter, Janet (Todd) Campbell, Nakawic, N.B.; sons, Robert (Rose), Windsor, Ont.; and Donald (Judy Cavanaugh), Ottawa, Ont.; granddaughter, Sarah Carrier, Nakawic, N.B.; great-grandson, Riley Heppell, at home; brother, Samuel "Max" (Judy), Ottawa, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie "Joy" (Weaver); brother, Frank "Bert". Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation, by request. A Masonic Lodge service, followed by a reception, will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 30th, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Donations in memory may be made to St. John's Anglican Church, Port Williams. The family would like to express their appreciation to Paula Morine for the care, kindness and compassion given to Bill. KENNY, Joseph Edward

Age 65, Truro, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2019 in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in St. John's, N.L., he was a son of the late Joseph Kenny and Florence (Snow) Hall. Joe recently retired from The Hampton Inn, where he worked in the maintenance department. He loved playing the lottery, video games, and spending time with friends. Joe had a great sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. Joe is survived by his fiancée, Alana Hirtle; brother, Jim (Mary) Kenny; nephews, Michael (Sarah) Kenny, James (Biljana) Kenny; niece, Tina (Jorge); great-nieces, Olivia and Bailey as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed by his cat, Nutmeg. Arrangements are under the care of Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Sunday, October 27th firom 1-4 p.m. in Hampton Inn and Suites, 35 Legends Dr., Millbrook. Age 89, of Hammonds Plains, and formerly of Parrsboro, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019 at home. Born in Lories, N.L., she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Cuza) Stacey. She is survived by daughter, Patricia Bodnar (Edwin), Edmonton, Alta.; sons, Ken (Sharon), Hammonds Plains; Bruce (Laurie), Bradford, Ont.; brother, John (Jeanette), Victoria Harbour, Ont.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; special niece, Judy Yorke, Vancouver, B.C. She was predeceased by her husband, Clyde in 2008; sisters, Emma, Celeste; brothers, Harry, Cecil. Visitation 12-2 p.m. on Thursday, October 17th, in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Rev. Dr. Brian Spence officiating. Burial in St. George's Anglican Cemetery, Parrsboro. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to South Cumberland Community Care Centre Foundation. LAWRENCE, Emma Helena

Of Annapolis Royal, died October 22, 2019 age 86. Born July 5, 1933 in St. John's, N.L., she was a daughter of Ingram and Alice (Payne) Quinton. She is survived by daughter, Leslie; sons, Ian (Valerie) and Peter (Marianne); grandchildren, Jesse, Leah (Chris), Alexandra (Will), and Quinton; great-grandchildren, Anson and Juna; sisters-in-law, Jean Palmer and Ruth Hodgins; Quinton nieces and nephew, Wendy (Bruce), Paula and David. She is also survived by Holden cousins in Newfoundland, George (Maureen), Don (Shirley), Bill (Jean) and Beverly (Ed). She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. J. A. (Sandy) Lawrence; son-in-law, Ross Maclean; and brother, Joliffe (Bette). Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, October 25th from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, October 26th, from 7-9 p.m., both in Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, from St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal with Rev. Elisabeth Beckem-Jennings officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. MACPHERSON, Veronica
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, October 9, 2019

Age 87, of William's Point, Antigonish Co., passed away on October 7, 2019 surrounded by her children in the supportive and caring Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Wood's Island, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Hickey) Hynes. Veronica worked in food preparation at St. Martha's Hospital for many years. Among the things she enjoyed were swimming at St. F.X pool, walking, playing cards, and doing sudukos. Veronica always "called a spade a spade", but she had a heart of gold. She faithfully sponsored three children through the Chalice program and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an active member of St. Ninian's CWL. While William's Point was her home, Veronica was a proud Newfoundlander and never forgot her roots. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survived by children, Martina (Dave) Kelly, Antigonish; Mary (Buckie) Bowman, Afton; Wayne (Cindy) MacPherson, Shubenacadie; Cory MacPherson, William's Point; 13 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Joe "Sam" MacPherson; son, Darryl; grandson, Christopher; brothers, Pat and Jack; sisters, Min, Liz, Dorothy and Anne. Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be in St. Ninian Cathedral on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Doug MacDonald presiding. MARLIN, Jean E. Marlin
The Chronicle Herald, Halifax, Nova Scotia, October 12, 2019

Age 82, of Truro. Passed away in her home on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Jean was born in Middlesbrough, in Yorkshire, England on August 21, 1937. A daughter of the late George and Ellen Robson. She is survived by her children, Scott, Stuart (Holly), Gregory (Brigit), Linda (Todd), Lori (Steve); and daughter-in-law, Didja; her ten grandchildren; great-grandchild; as well as siblings, Bill, Mike, Dawn and Bev. She was predeceased by her older sister, Iris.

Jean arrived at Pier 21 in 1955 as a young girl with her family, settling in Halifax. She married and moved to Truro with her husband and two young children in 1963. After her five children were in school, Jean went back to work and found herself working for the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition where she managed the office for 21 years. With this experience in hand, she went on to become the manager of the South Shore Exhibition in 1997 where she stayed until her retirement in 2006. In 2003, she was elected as the President of the Exhibition Association of Nova Scotia. She remained involved as a volunteer with exhibitions in Nova Scotia until 2014. During her life she travelled widely around the world, both to visit her children and to explore new places. Wherever she went, she loved to talk to people and she really loved to dance. In 2015, she returned to Truro to be closer to family and long-time friends after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Jean's family wish to express their gratitude to the staff and residents of Munroe Court and to Valerie from Earth Angels for making Jean's last few years so special.

A Memorial Service as a celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15th in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St. Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations, may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be made at: www.colchestercommunity.com
