COOMBS, Mary Frances

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary (Wiseman) Coombs who passed away peacefully at the age of 91 in Northwood, Halifax, NS. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Mary was born in Corner Brook, NL, the eldest of eight children of the late Freda and Joseph Wiseman. Predeceased by husband, Reginald Coombs; brothers, Kevin (Grace), Desmond, Jack (Audrey) Joseph Wiseman, and sister, Carmella Keller (Curt). She is survived by her loving daughter, Sheila; her loving grandchildren, grandson Marc Bailey (Xiaoyu); granddaughter Beth Grady (Aaron) and great-grandson Max; sister, Joan Wiseman; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Gayle, and many thoughtful cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary received her early education in Corner Brook, and later completed her Secretarial Arts Diploma at St. Francis Xavier University. She then graduated with her R.N. from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, QC. She practiced nursing at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook for 25 years and retired as Assistant Administrative Director. Upon retirement she lived in St. Johns NL and then in Halifax NS until her death.

Special Thanks to the staff of the 3rd Floor Roach Center, Northwood who helped care for her the last two years, and to Cathy Meisner NP, as well as, Father Paul and Father Frank for their comforting prayers and blessings.

There will be no visitation at Mary`s request. Cremation has taken place. Mass of the Resurrection will be held in St. Benedict Church on Radcliffe Dr., Clayton Park on July 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., Father Simon Lobo officiating. Reception to follow in the Church hall. Interment will be held in Oakridge Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.


Crocker, George

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the loss of our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend George Lloyd Crocker who passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Heart Disease and Cancer.

Born in St. John's,Nfld on July 23, 1942, he was a son of the late Greta (Max) Lawrence and Gordon Lloyd Crocker. George was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Newfoundland Constabulary. In 2001 he retired from the Trenton Police Department with over 25 years of service. After retirement, he worked part-time with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires and could regularly be found at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

With his faith in the Lord, he was an active member of the church, and enjoyed singing gospel music with others. Never idle, George always found ways to keep himself busy. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and many other home improvement projects. George was always ready to share one of his stories (all of them true!) with anyone willing to listen. Most of all, he loved the outdoors and was happiest when he found himself out hunting and fishing.

George is survived by his wife Joan Crocker (MacIver) of 44 years, sons Christopher (Maggie), Brent (Cindy), Aaron (Annie) and Gavin (Stephanie), daughter Debbie (Blair), grandchildren Zoe, Corey, Crystal, Brandon and his very special Alexis. Brother Jim (Barb) Lawrence, chosen sister Pauline Skanes, sisters-in-law Ruth Ann and Joyce, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother, father and stepfather. Special thanks to all his doctors - Rowicka, Couban, Styles, nurses at the Heart Function Clinic at the QEII. Also, the Chemo Department at the Aberdeen Hospital, as well as, Dr. Kwasnick and the compassionate and caring team in the palliative care unit at the Aberdeen Hospital. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our friends near and far for all of their support and help during this time.

Cremation has taken place. No visitation at his request. A memorial service will be held 2pm Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell with Rev. Bonnie Langille presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall. Goodaire, Timothy Edgar

Heaven has been made richer by the arrival of a caring, generous and loving husband, father, son and good friend. Timothy Edgar Goodaire was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on October 30, 1975, the son of Carolyn (Parker) Goodaire and Edgar Goodaire, of Ontario, Canada.

Throughout his career, he worked for Momentum IT Group in Halifax; Afilias in Toronto; Wireless Generation in New York; Dyn in Manchester, NH and was currently employed by Cisco-Cloudlock in Waltham, MA in data services. Tim had a love of music and always enjoyed listening to it on his vinyl collection. He also loved riding his motorcycle and showing off his award winning mustache. Tim was a passionate volunteer; he believed in giving back to help others. Helping at Missy's Hope, Tim became great friends with John and Heidi Cantin and spent many hours helping them fulfill their dream of an avenue to raise money to help women affected by domestic violence. He also spent many hours with his NH family raising money for his community. The times Tim spent with the members of the Bearded Sinners and their families were some of the greatest of his life.

During his illness, Tim's family, friends and neighbours were always there to help and support both him and Sarah. Tim leaves behind the greatest love of his life, his wife Sarah (Lawlor) and his dear daughter Sydney, his greatest joy; his parents Carolyn Goodaire and Edgar (Madonna) Goodaire; his brother Mark (Annie); and uncles David (Pamela) and Bruce (Kirsten) as well as many good friends and extended family members. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the YWCA through Missy's Hope, PO Box 6462 Manchester, NH 03103. Family flowers are provided by Celebrations by Heidi. Sarah would like to thank the staff at NH Oncology, Dana Farber of Cancer Institute in Boston and the staff at Elliot Hospital, Manchester. Special thank you to Keith and Lori.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. Services will be at the funeral home on Friday, July 13th with a gathering from 5-7pm and Celebration of Life at 7pm. Family and friends are invited to attend.


HILL, Eileen Hill

- It is with great sadness we are announcing that Eileen passed away July 12, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Grand Bay West, Newfoundland on July 23, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine Kettle. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 58 years, Edward; sons, Paul (Judy), Mark, Shawn (Jayne Yeo), and one very special granddaughter, Shannan; sister, Cedella Fraser; brother, Nelson Kettle; half- sisters, Sandra Kettle and Edith March (Ron), and many special and loved nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her sisters, Blanche, Mildred, Mary, Greta, Verena; brothers, Wesley and Maxwell; half-sisters, Phyllis, Ruth and Joan.

Eileen was employed in several departments with Simpson's for many years. When Eileen and Ed started their family, Eileen devoted her time, energy and love into raising her three sons and creating a strong and supportive home and family. With a husband and three strong-willed and assertive sons, Eileen was known as "the boss," a title she wore with strength and pride. Eileen volunteered at the CNIB, she was a member of the Mothers Union at St. Marks Church, as well as a member of Holy Trinity Emmanuel Church. Eileen loved to read, play cards, and watch movies, she was an avid camper and could fix, sew, drape or upholster almost anything.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate Eileen's life will take place at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday August 4, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bryony House or The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.

age 60 years of Halifax passed away at home on July 15, 2018. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland he was a son of the former Ethel (Gladwin) King, Dartmouth and the late Doctor Wilson King. Besides his mother Paul is survived by siblings Brent, Bruce, Wilson, Susan Lebel and Janet Moffett. Private family service will be held. Age 81 of Porters Lake

It is with heaviest hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, Dad and Pop, on July 2, 2018 at home, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Point Rosie, Nfld., he was a son of the late Frederick and Theresa May.

Dad left home at the age of 15 to work with J.P. Porter in Halifax. He later joined the Imperial Oil team and travelled all over the world on the oil tankers, retiring after 35 years. On January 15, 1958, he married the love of his life, Bertha Grandy. Dad was a very active member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Porters Lake, volunteered at Porters Lake Community Centre and Porters Lake Seniors' Club. He looked forward to his crib nights with his buddies in the building, and breakfasts and drives with his friend, Ken Smith.

Besides his wife, he leaves behind his son, Darrell (Maureen MacLean) and their children Cally and Cameron; daughters, Teresa (Hal Ellis) and their son Jason; Cathy (Richard Eaglestone) and their children Brad, Jillian and Blake; Tina (Stan Betts) and her daughter Jessica Hillier. Jillian's children, Ellie and Emma, were Dad's little heartthrobs. He is also survived by his oldest brother, Otto; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by stepmother, Percilla; brothers, Edwin and Lawrence; grandson, Jeffrey Ellis.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday from 12:30-3 p.m. in Porters Lake Community Centre, 4693 Hwy. 7. A private family committal will be held at St. Mark's Anglican Church with Rev. Evelyn Knorr officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Anglican Church, Porters Lake. The family would like to thank the VON team who treated Dad like he was their own family, palliative care nurse, Shannon, and Dr. Erin, who went above and beyond to look after not only Dad but also the family. Special thanks to Dr. Woliski, Dr. Caldwell and nurse, Jill. Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.

McCallum, Enid Helena
-86, of the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, passed away on July 14, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Whitbourne, NL, she was the daughter of the late George and Violet (Sparks) Toope. In her early years Enid lived in St. John's, NL where she met her late husband Dennis Dobbin. They moved to Antigonish, NS and raised five children. She is survived by her sons, Gary Dobbin (Anne Marie), Antigonish; and Jerry Dobbin (Joyce), Heatherton; daughter, Sharon Dobbin, Vancouver; sister, Patsy (Tony) Rockel, and ten grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Dennis Dobbin, and second husband, Bob McCallum; sons, Sean and Gregory Dobbin. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Service will be held in Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 21st with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Porter, Gordon "John"
- Age 85, of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully at home, Monday, July 2nd, 2018. Born on Change Islands, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Frederick and Florence (Richmond) Porter. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. Happiness for John came from being with his family. He nurtured a family that loved being together. Anyone who joined his family over the years was made to feel like they had always been part of the family. John was a strong and loving patriarch. He was a longstanding member of St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church. John was a weatherman for Environment Canada, starting his career in Gander, NL. His career took him and his family to Goose Bay, NL, then to Saint John, NB and finally to Halifax, NS where he retired. In his younger years, John was an avid fisherman and hunter.

John had an enduring love of Newfoundland music and culture and was happiest when he was dancing with his beloved wife, Ena. He was an amazing accordion player and his grandchildren loved to sit and listen to "Poppy" play. He passed on his love of the accordion to his son John. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Ena, a son in infancy, and his son Gary (48). He is survived by his son, John (Eileen); daughter Debbie (Robert) Sproul; daughter-in-law Kimberley Good; grandchildren Shevaun, Frederick (Courtney), Andrea (Doug), Jonathon (Emma), Meghan (Kory), Rebecca, James, Michael, Monike (Nick), Douglas and Kate; great-grandsons, Brayden, Nolan and Leo; sister, Winnifred (Reginald) Hynes; sister-in-law, Elaine (Anthony) Libertini; brother-in-law, Fred (Alice) Field; sister-in-law Victoria; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 7 - 9 pm Thursday, July 5th at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville. A celebration of John's life will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, July 6th at St. Francis by the Lakes Anglican Church, 192 First Lake Drive, Lower Sackville, Rev. Ken Turner officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. The family would like to thank the clergy of St. Francis by the Lakes, who have been with John throughout this journey, to his many friends who remain devoted, his careworkers, Nicole, Jennifer, Stephan, Michelle, Midge, and Jaclyn, the VON, the Geriatrics Care Team (Dr. Koller and Athena), and The Medicine Shoppe of Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to his church, St. Francis by the Lakes, Lower Sackville, NS or St. Margarets Anglican Church, Change Islands, NL.
