CHAISSON, Edith Marie age 92 years of Dartmouth . It is with great sadness
that we announce the passing of our dear Edith Chaisson. Born
in St. John's Newfoundland on November 24 , 1920 she was a daughter of the
late John and Harriett Mehan . Edith was beautiful in everyway . She was a
faithful and longtime parishoner of St. Paul's Catholic Church . She worked
for many years at I.G.A. stores in Dartmouth and Halifax. Always smiling and
ready to please, she was a wonderful Mom , wife , grandma , sister , aunt and
a very loyal friend to many .
She is survived by grand daughter Joelle Francis
( Mark ) , great grandaughter Julia Francis -Kelowna B.C. , grandson Joe Chaisson
( Leona ) and great grandchildren Jerod , Matthew and Kehnan Chaisson -Calgary
, Sister in law Gertie Hand and all Gertie's family - U.S.A. Nieces Anne Louise
, Paulette and nephew Paul - Texas , Bev ( Roy ) - Nova Scotia . She was predeceased
by her husband Joseph Chaisson , sons Donald and David and daughter Patricia
. Thanks to all the staff who cared for Edith at Saint Vincents Nursing Home
for your loving care and support over the last two years , a special thank
you to Father Jan Grotkowski , Father Albert Cosgrove , Father Charles Burke

DOWNEY, Ralph Francis

GLENGARRY - Ralph Francis Downey, 74, Glengarry, passed away peacefully on
Friday, July 13, 2012 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax.
Born December 4, 1937 in Great Codroy, Nfld., he was a son of the late James
Alban and Rose Elizabeth (Young) Downey. Ralph was an educator for 35 years,
serving as principal at the former Plymouth school, and then as teacher at
Dr. W. A. MacLeod Elementary School, Riverton, finishing his teaching career
at Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School, Sutherland's River. He enjoyed farming
and looking after his animals. Ralph was a great supporter of 4-H and often
a judge at 4-H events. He would often assist young people to fulfill their
4-H requirements by permitting them to "adopt" his goats or sheep for a period
of time. He was a member of the Sheep Producers Association of Nova Scotia.
Ralph will be remembered for his kindness to others and will be sadly missed
by those who loved him.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Bridget Downey and
Lucy Downey, Codroy Valley, Nfld. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by
sister, Margaret; brothers, Bertram, Kevin, Fintan, Aloysius, Walter and Robert;
nephew, David; sisters-in-law, Jean and Evelyn.
The family will receive visitors 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, July 16th in P. & K.
MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held
2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17th in the chapel with Father Peter MacDonald presiding.
Interment will be in Lorne Cemetery.
FIANDER, Rita Margaret, 86
(October 31, 1925 - July 31, 2012)

of Halifax, passed away peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care on Tuesday
July 31, 2012, with family by her side. Born October 31, 1925, in Coomb's
Cove, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Sarah (Blagdon)
Vallis. Rita was a member of St. John's Anglican Church in Fairview for over
50 yrs and was a long standing member of the Church Guild. She loved to play
Bridge and played in many tournaments over the years. She especially loved
to spend time with family and friends.
Rita is survived by daughter, Donna
(John) Korvell, Olympia, Washington; sons, Duncan (Christine) Fiander, San
Jose, California, Bill Fiander, Red Deer, Alberta. She also leaves behind granddaughters,
Kristin and Monica; grandson, Vincent. Rita was predeceased by her beloved
husband, Duncan "Don" Fiander; sister, Dorcas Evans; brothers,
William, Thomas and Clifford. A memorial service followed by a reception will
be held at 1 p.m. Monday August 6 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd.,
Halifax, Rev. Randy Townsend of St. John's Anglican Church officiating. A private
family interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery. The family extends
sincere and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of Parkstone Enhanced Care
for their kind and compassionate care and for their support to the family.

died July 18 2012 in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. He was born
In St. John's. NL on Jan. 4, 1922, the youngest son of the late Hedley V. and
Maud (Thomson) Garland. He graduated from Memorial College of Newfoundland
and Nova Scotia Technical College as a civil engineer, and worked with several
construction firms in Quebec and Nova Scotia before co-founding Boyd and Garland
Construction Services Ltd. in HRM. Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by siblings Arch, Isabel, Herb, Bill and Margaret. He is survived by his partner
Carolyn Bird, nephews Robert (Brenda), Chester, William, St. John's, and niece
Mary (Gilles) Langlois, Kingston, ON. Cremation has taken place. By request
there is no visitation or funeral service. Interment will take place at a future
date in St. John's. The family is very grateful to the staff of Fishermen's
Memorial Hospital for their excellent care of Bob in his last days. Donations

Born in Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Louis and Lilly Jesso. Jerry
was a past volunteer at the Chezzetcook Fire Dept. and an avid outdoorsman,
father and "Gamppy". He is survived by his two children
Suzanne (Kirk) Cowan of Brighton, ON and Jason (Crystal) of Head of Chezzetcook,
his 4 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 7th at

Kelly, Madonna Irene, 84, Halifax, passed away peacefully at Northwood Centre,
July 12, 2012. Born in Duricle Nfld., she
was a daughter of the late Patrick and Josephine (Kennedy) Doody. She is survived
by daughters Elaine (Rob) Brown and Joan Kelly; her beloved grandsons: Andy
(Breanne) Brown and Colin Brown.; great grandchildren: Elliet Grace Brown and
Lincoln Robert Brown; sisters Adele Cheeseman and Mary Kelly (St. John's, Nfld.);
many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Adrian Kelly; sisters
Genieve, Alice and Bridget and brother Richard. Cremation has taken place with
no visitation. Private family service at a later date. Burial next to her husband
Adrian Holy Cross Cemetery, Halifax. We would remiss if we did not mention
the staff of Northwood Centre, particularly the staff of the ninth floor. Over
the last two years they became an integral part of her daily life. Madonna
and the family greatly appreciated the kindness, care and love they have shown
especially in her final days. We will never forget this and will be forever

84, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday,
July 6, 2012. Born
in Lally Cove, Newfoundland, residing in Halifax, she will lovingly be remembered
and sadly missed by her children, William (Heather), Gale (Cyril), Larry (Joan),
Guy (Bev), Clay, Brent (Krystal), Todd (Nanette), Shannon (Lisa); 14 grandchildren;
many great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived
by sister, Pamela (Joe); brother, Ernest (Emily). Audrey was predeceased by
former husband, William Murphy; son, Ernest Murphy; daughter, Rosanne Gritten;
grandson, Corey Murphy; sister, Deb Sorrie. Cremation has taken place under
the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax
(477-5601). In keeping with Audrey's wishes, there will be no visitation. A
service celebrating Audrey's life will be held on Tuesday, July 10 at 1 PM
from the funeral home chapel, Lt. Rob Jeffery officiating; with a reception
to follow. Committal will be held in St. John's Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu
of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
of NS.
