DONOVAN, Joseph Patrick. With heavy hearts the family of Joseph
Patrick Donovan advise of his sudden passing on January 19th in
Woodstock, NB. Joe will be dearly missed by Elaine and Charles Webber, brothers
Michael (Mary), Vincent, Mark (Doreen), sisters Genevieve Broomfield (Thomas),
Rita (Harold), Louise Griffin (Garry), Agatha and Cecilia O'Rielly (Albert)
all of Newfoundland,
and brother George "Junior" of Halifax. He was predeceased
by parents George and Helen Donovan, St. Brendan's, NF. Joe loved life and
was a well respected and proud professional long haul driver with Premiere
and Atlas Van Lines for almost 30 years. A memorial, service will be held Tuesday
January 24th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville,

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matilda
Falle of Dartmouth
on January 2, 2012 at Oakwood Nursing Home. Born in Stephenville,
NFLD, she
is survived by daughters Isabell, Ann Marie, Liz, Margaret and Bertha sons
Jimmy (Kelly), Francis, grandchildren Melanie, Barbie, Kimmy, Tommy and great
grandchildren Karlie, Colton and Joey. Predeceased by her common law husband
Chester Falle, daughters Elizabeth and Rose Marie, sisters Annie and Blanche.
Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 pm Wednesday in Atlantic Funeral Home. A funeral
service will be held 2 pm Thursday January 5, 2012 in Atlantic Funeral Home

FERGUSON, Lillian Alvina age 89, of Cole Harbour passed away at the Bissett
Court Nursing Home, Cole Harbour. Born in Burin, Newfoundland she
was a daughter of the late William and Caroline (Loughlin) Brushett.
As a young woman Lillian immigrated to Halifax through Pier 21. She worked
as a CNA, her early years at the Victoria General Hospital, retiring from the
Halifax County Hospital where she worked for twenty five years. She was a devoted
mother and homemaker, adored her four granddaughters, loved playing cards,
took great pride in her flower gardens, a beautiful knitter and enjoyed her
Sunday afternoon newfie music. Lillian is survived by her sons Freeman, Robert
(Bernadette), sisters Lottie and Pearl of Newfoundland, daughter in law Betty,
granddaughters, Crystal, Sherry, Natasha and Charlene, several great grandchildren,
several nieces and nephews and good friend Jessie Warr. She was predeceased
by her husband Malcolm, brothers Fred, Jim, Lewis and Leonard. A funeral service
will be held 11 a.m. Saturday February 4, 2012 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771
Main St., Dartmouth. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. A heart felt
thank you to Dr. Fraser and the staff of Bissett Court Nursing Home, especially
staff of Turner Lane for their care and loving attention given to Lillian over

LIDSTONE, Eric Franklin - We, the family of Eric Lidstone, are deeply saddened
to announce his passing away at home in Halifax, on January 27th, 2012. Eric
was born in Corner Brook, N.L., on May 1, 1933, the youngest
son of Theophilus and Annie (Dalton) Lidstone. At the age of 18, he joined
the Canadian Forces to serve overseas during the Korean War. He resided most
of his life in Stephenville, N.L., where he and his wife, Mary Ann (Cunard),
raised their family of four, Carolyn, Dwayne (Dember), Emma and Eric (Pamela).
During those years, he was employed in the plumbing and heating business and
at the end of his residency in Stephenville, had operated his own business.
Following his relocation to Halifax, he continued his employment in this field
with Southwest Property and Raffie Ghosn. In 2005 during a trip to Devon, United
Kingdom, Eric was delighted to discover his genealogical heritage and to visit
ancestral sites of his forefathers. He also spent many happy times at his cottage
(nicknamed 'The Ponderosa') in Brag Bay on the Northern Peninsula
in Newfoundland and Labrador. Also left to mourn with fond and loving memories
are his grandchildren, Samantha (Dwayne) and Isaac (Emma); step granddaughters
and step great-grandchild, Ashley, Brandy and Nevaeh (Dwayne); sister-in- law,
Vera (Ralph) Lidstone; sister-in-law, Hepsey (Heber) Sheppard; brothers-in-law,
Grant (Elsie) Cunard, Wallace (Rita) Cunard, Eli (Phyllis) Cunard, Eric (Ann)
Cunard, Terry Cunard and Don (Elizabeth) Gould. Eric is also survived by numerous
nieces and nephews and long-time friends with special mention of nieces, Paula
(Wade) Gould and Sandra (Clyde) O'Quinn; nephew, Wallace (Diane) Cunard and
long-time friends, Calvin and Millie Dalley. A quiet and private man, Eric
was a wonderful support always to his family and will be greatly missed, especially
by his loving wife and constant companion of 56 years, Mary.
There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service
will be scheduled in Stephenville, Spring 2012.
PICKETT, Patrick Hamilton

PICKETT, Patrick Hamilton, age 91 years of Dartmouth passed away January
25, 2012 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Fogo, Newfoundland he was a son
of the late John & Lucy (Hamilton) Pickett. He graduated with a Bachelor
of Journalism from the University of Western Ontario, he went on to earn a
Bachelor of Education from Memorial University. He was a teacher in rural and
urban Newfoundland and finally a teacher a the N.S.C.C. Akerley Campus (formerley
Dartmouth Vocational School). He was a published author, writing a history
of his hometown, Fogo, Fogo Island and a history of the Newfoundland Dog. He
was a lifelong member of the Kiwanis Club and the Knights of Columbus. He is
survived by his wife the former Caroline Martin, sons Tony (Susan), Mount Uniake,
Robert, Perth Ontario, daughter Anne Marie Gill, Dartmouth. Grandchildren Candace
(Randy) Herritt, Daniel (Charlotte) Pickett, Gregory Gill, Cheryl Gill and
Joey Warnell as well as two great grandchildren . He was predeceased by brothers
Frank and Michael. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 Friday in Dartmouth
Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday
from St. Peters Roman Catholic Church (Maple St. Dartmouth) Father Jim Richards,
celebrant . A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Gate
of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation to Heart & Stroke Foundation.

of Lunenburg, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at
South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in English Harbour West, Fortune Bay, NL., Ada was a
daughter of the late Archibald and Velma (Fizzard) Osborne. Joan and her husband
Bill began their courtship in Middle School and so began their life long love
together. Besides the love for her family, she loved taking care of her home
and greatly enjoyed crocheting, needle point and all different types of crafts.
Her home was always open to receive friends and family. Joan will be especially
missed by her two favourite chosen grandchildren, Koen and Jayden and her dog,
Precious, who misses her already. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church,
Lunenburg. She is survived by her husband Bill, sisters, Una (Walter) Skinner,
NL., Ethel (Gordon) Tibbo, Amy (Ben) Banfield; both of Lunenburg; Esther (Raymond)
Hunt, Rose Bay; Ann (Lester) Feener, Bridgewater; Glenda (David) Williams,
NL.; brothers, Archie (Geraldine), Aubrey (Marie) Osborne both of NL; William
(Cathy) Osborne, Lunenburg; Charles (Debbie) Osborne, Halifax; John (Shelly)
Osborne, Lunenburg; many nieces, nephews and cousins. and special nieces, Julie
and Amanda. She was predeceased by brothers, Walter, Thomas and a sister, Elizabeth.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral
Home, 11213, Hwy. # 3, Lunenburg, with visitation Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and
where a memorial service to celebrate Ada's life will be held Sunday at 2:00
p.m., Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

ROSE, Walter - 64, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Saturday,
January 28, 2012 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born in Hermitage,
Newfoundland, he
was a son of the late Wallace and Mary Rose.
He will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by his wife, Shirlene; son,
Gregory; step mother, Vi; brothers, Cyril (Sheila), Jimmy (Geraldine), David
and Perry; sisters, Cora (Bucky), Marie (Phillip), Darlene (Kevin), Maryann
(Darrell), Grace (Jim); several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Mike.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home
(2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held
on Friday, February 3 from 7-9 PM. A reception will follow the visitation at
the family home, 17C Dentith Road, Spryfield. Burial will be held at a later
date.
SOPER, Donald Francis - 81

passed away January 27, 2012 in Northwood Ivany Place, Bedford after a lengthy
and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. His positive outlook never failed
and his sense of humour and wit made knowing him a true delight. He was a dedicated
member and deacon of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, sang in quartets and
choirs and played several instruments. He was an avid stamp collector, a meticulous
craftsman and a kind and compassionate person always willing to help anyone
in need. Born in Carbonear, NL, he was the son of the late Harry Ingram and
Clarice Irene (Penney) Soper. He was an optician and worked for 22 years at
Garnett Optical Co., Ltd. and for 15 years at Eastern Optical Laboratories
Ltd. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marie (Coolen), Bedford;
brothers, Kenneth (Marjorie), Scarborough ON; Lloyd, Halifax; sister, Lillian
Babb, Harbour Grace, NL; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers,
William, Harry A. and Charles. Cremation has taken place under the direction
of the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. No visitation by request. A
graveside service only will be held at the Fox Point SDA Cemetery, Fox Point
on Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 2 p.m. Elder Reid Coolen officiating. Memorial

Spurrell, William C.P. (Bill) - Passed peacefully away on Monday,
January 2nd, 2012, Bill Spurrell, aged 57 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories
are his loving wife, Geralda (Gerri) (nee Tobin); his cherished daughters:
Kelly (Travis Cribb) and Katheryn (Chad Moores); grandson Jaxon Moores; his
devoted mother Audrey, brothers: Dave (Shirley) and Jim (Andrea); sister Susan
(David Barnes); Aunt Olive Hillerich; Uncle Roland & Aunt Peg Spurrell;
many nieces and nephews; sisters and brothers in laws: Bruce Andrews, Yvonne
and David McCann, Ramona and Bruce Goodwin, Lee and Rennie Humber, Andrina
and Don Whiteway, Bernardine, Teresina and Dan DeYoung, Carl and Annette, Earl,
Wallace and Debra, Jacquelyn, Hughie and Wendy; along with a large circle of
relatives and friends. Predeceased by his father, Pierce Spurrell (2009), his
sister Joanne Andrews (2008) and father and mother-in-law, John and Carmel
Tobin. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral
Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
Funeral service to take place at 2 pm on Thursday, January 5th, 2012 from the
