COURTNEY, Melita Jane
(October 20, 1936 - May 6, 2015)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melita Courtney announces her passing on Wednesday May 6 at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Centre at the age of 78 years. Born at Isle aux Morts, Melita was the daughter of the late James and Maggie Wells. She was also predeceased by her aunts; Julia (Ben) Munden and Edna (Silas) LeFrense. She leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories her children; Della Caines (Allister) Burnt Islands, Lloyd Courtney (Joanne) Thorold ON, Dennis Courtney (Arlene) Burnt Islands, Anne Courtney Thorold ON. Loving grandmother of Joshua (Geneva), Jaimie (Seamus), Candace (Jason), Jane (Christopher), Richard. Proud great grandmother of Grayson, Leiland and Lena. She will also be missed by a large circle of extended family and many friends. In keeping with Melita's wishes cremation has taken place and the internment will take place at a later date. HATCHER, Beatrice Jane
(December 1, 1923 - May 11, 2015)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Beatrice Jane Hatcher (nee Rose) announces her peaceful passing on Monday May 11, at the Long Term Care Centre in Corner Brook at the age of 91 years. Born at Rose Blanche, Beatrice was the daughter of the late John and Frances Ann Rose. She was also predeceased by her husband Augustus Hatcher in 2005, sisters; Ada (William) Pynn, Minnie Rose, Rose Anderson, Mary Ann (Garland) Best, brothers; Arthur Rose and John Rose Jr. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving family; sons Israel (Mildred) Hatcher Rose Blanche, Augustus Jr. (Debbie) Hatcher Fort McMurray AB. Proud grandmother of Theresa (Albert) Cox, Barry (Crystal) Hatcher all of Halifax NS, Damien (Sherry) Hatcher Edmonton AB, Hannah Hatcher (Jonathan) Port aux Basques. Loving great grandmother of Michaela, Michael, Vincent, Taylor, Carley, Rianna. She will also be sadly missed by her sister in laws; Rita Rose Rose Blanche, Lillian Hatcher Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitation took place on Wednesday and Thursday at St. Michael's and All Angel's Anglican Church in Rose Blanche. Funeral services took place on Friday May 15, 2 Pm at St. Michael's and All Angels Anglican Church officiated by Rev. Jeff Petten, interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts. Always In Our Hearts

LOMOND, Jennifer
Jennifer Jocelyn Lomond was granted her angel wings on May 16, 2015 at the age of 38. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Jennifer had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. She is the daughter of Jordan and Kathleen (Osmond) Lomond and was born in Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. Those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her gentle smile, her caring personality and loving nature affected everyone who met her. She gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. She loved to go on adventures and spending time with her family. Jennifer is survived by her loving parents; her Daughter Kaleigh (16), her Son Nicholas (10) and loving spouse Peter Walker, her sister Tina Lomond (David Walters) and niece Maurora Walters (5). A memorial service will be held in Jordan Falls, NS at a later date. Donations can be made to her surviving children, Kaleigh and Nicholas by contacting Jennifer’s mother Kathleen (Osmond) Lomond.

PARSONS, Mary Bernice
77-Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Bernice Parsons on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her loving family by her side.
Born at Wadden's Cove she was the daughter of the late William (Billie) and the late Mary Jane (Ferguson) Boutilier. Bernice was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church.
In her younger years Bernice was employed at Zilbert's and Shore's Grocery Stores. She was a full time homemaker, mother, and grandmother. Bernice spent her summers at her second home at MacDougall's Gulch, NFL, where evenings were spent around a bonfire with her Newfoundland family and friends. She took special pride in her yard and had quite the green thumb. Bernice decorated extensively for all holidays with her Halloween displays being legendary.
Bernice is survived by her husband of 57 years, Calvin B. Parsons; daughter Sharon (Rob) Tonary; son Bruce (Lucia); daughter Sheila (Harvey); son Brian (Angela); son Glen (Roberta) and special son Kyle. Grandchildren Ian Tonary, Kyle (Brittany McNeil) and Devin Parsons, Jeffery, Matthew, and Jordan Parsons, Ryan and Rebecca Parsons; and great-grandchild Bryleigh; brothers Clarence and Dougie (Brenda) Boutilier.
Predeceased by her brothers Earl, Melvin, and Jimmy; sisters Catherine and Frances; and grandsons Johnathan and Malcolm.
Arrangements under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, funeral service will be held on Monday, June 1st, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Reverend Vernon Reid officiating with Internment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 10 - 11 a.m. in the church foyer. Luncheon to follow after the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church or to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.

SHORT, Henry
(February 14, 1954 - May 24, 2015)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Henry Short announces his passing at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's on May 24, 2015 at the age of 61 years. He was predeceased by his Father Emmanuel Short and sister Linda Lorraine Osmond. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his mother Bessie Short Port aux Basques, son Philip (Angeline) Short Sherwood Park AB, daughter Tara (Jason) Stringer Spruce Grove AB, grandchildren Alex, Jesse, Jordan, Lilly, Holly, Ryan & Matthew, siblings Gordon (Lucy) Short Saint Chrysostome PEI, Wayne (Sheila) Short Emyvale PEI, Diane (Willie) Short, Ricky (Ada) Short, and Alisa (Jeff) Chard all of Port of Basques plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. In keeping with Henry's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation took place on Friday, May 29 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM from East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Saturday, May 30 at 2 PM from St. James Anglican Church with Rev. Wayne Short officiating. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. VALLIS, Arthur James
1925-2015
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Arthur James Vallis announces his passing on May 29, 2015 at Western Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years. Born in Coombs Cove, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur James and Ezitte Vallis. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children: Roland (Amelia) Vallis, Isle-aux-Morte; Thelma ( James Morris partner) Isle-aux-Morte; Geraldine (Rodney) Harris, Rose Blanche; Della (Charlie) Gillam, Moncton, NB; Rosanna Vallis (Wayne Matchem partner) Stephenville; Pauline (Frank) Touchings, Rose Blanche; Shirley Vallis (Albert) Penny, Mississauga, ON; Sherry (Craig) Hatcher, Petawawa, ON; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Rosie Bunter, Moncton, NB. He will be remembered by neighbours Andrew and Betty Anderson; neices, nephews and friends. He was preceded by his loving wife, Josephine Vallis, son Harold, brother, Harold Vallis Sr, half-sister, Pearl Clarke, half-brother Eric Walters Sr and step-sister Dora Farrell sisters and brothers in law. Visitation will be held at St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church in Rose Blanche on Saturday, 7-9 p.m., Sunday and Monday 10-11a.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 1st at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeffrey Petten officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle-aux-Morte Road. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre Foundation. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Fillatre’s Funeral Home Port-aux-Basques. WALL, Margaret Jane
(January 22, 1953 - May 20, 2015)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Margaret Wall (nee Matthews) announces her passing on Wednesday May 20, at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Centre at the age of 62 years. Born in Port aux Basques, Margaret was the daughter of the late Wilson Matthews and Elizabeth Green. She was also predeceased by her brother Alfred Matthews, father in law Joseph Wall, brother in law Wayne Wall. She leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories her loving husband Earl Wall of 43 years. Only son Michael Wall, her pride and joy. Brother, Charles (Dallas) Matthews Port aux Basques, mother in law Edna Wall Cape Ray and a large circle of brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends. In keeping with Margaret's wishes cremation has taken place. A private family service took pace on Sunday May 24, 2 PM at East Haven Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. George Critchell. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300. www.easthavenfuneralhome.com
