BRAKE, Rose Ann
September 18, 1930 - May 12, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rose Ann Brake announce her passing on Thursday, May 12th, 2011 at Bonavista Peninsula Health Care Center at the age of 80 years. She leaves to mourn her family, sons: Joe (Sandra) Brake, South Branch, NL, Frank (Linda) Brake, Tracy, NB, Brian (Margaret) Brake, Doyles, NL, Tom (Marlene) Brake, South Branch, NL, Tony (Jenny) Brake, Petawawa, ON, Ron (Kim) Brake, West Gore, NS; daughters: Mary (Ted) Brake, Lower Sackville, NS, Carol (Ross) MacIsaac, South Branch, NL, Ann (Hilary) Haynes, Catalina, NL, Jackie (Tony) Brake, Gore, NS; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret (Bernard) O'Gorman and Theresa Prosser; brothers: Gus (Blanche) Downey, Mike (Ruth) Downey, George (Marie) Downey, Hyacinth Downey and Tom Downey; sister-in-law Winnie; caregiver Judy, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Carol Joseph Brake; parents John and Maud Downey; brothers: Edward, Raymond and Frank Downey. Friends visited St. Sylvester's Church in South Branch, NL on May 13th and 14th, from where the Funeral Service was held on Sunday, May 15th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Maurice O'Quinn officiating. Interment followed at St. Sylvester's Cemetery, South Branch. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port Aux Basques. CLARKE, Lorne George
(April 9, 1956 - May 28, 2011)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lorne Clarke announces his passing on Saturday May 28, 2011 at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 55 years. Born at Port aux Basques Lorne was the son of the late Gordon and Olive Clarke. He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Wilson Primmer and Phonse Carew, nephew David Carew. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving family children Curtis (Rachel), Lisa (Curt), Ryan, grandchildren Mackenzie, Miranda, Ethan and Cameron all of Ontario; brothers and sisters Geraldine Carew St. John's NL, Charlie (Theresa) Barrie ON, Deanna Primmer Corner Brook NL, John (June) Holyrood NL, Bucky (Arlene) Port aux Basques NL, Dan Port aux Basques NL, Ken (LouAnn) Elmvale ON, Kay (Rick) Port aux Basques NL, Paul (Mona) Doyles NL, 23 nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Visitation took place on Monday from 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. To honor his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Lorne's life took place on Thursday June 2nd 2 PM at St. James Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Hannah Dicks. interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. CURRIE, Maxwell Norman
Port aux Basques, NL
September 6, 1930 - May 5, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Maxwell Norman Currie announces his passing on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center at the age of 80 years. Maxwell was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Currie. He leaves to mourn his family, sons David (Angela) Currie, Burgeo, NL, Lloyd (Jennifer) Currie, Dartmouth, NS, Calvin (Rhonda) Currie, Saint John, NB, daughters Ruby (Willard) Payne, Zama City, AB, Maxine Currie, SK, Diane (John) Collier, Scarborough ON, Madonna (Derek) Kettle Codroy Valley, NL Kay Currie (Jim) Port aux Basques, NL, Judy (Tony) Merrigan, St. John's NL and Tracy Spencer (Paul), Port aux Basques, NL, grandchildren and great grandchildren, care giver and friend Christine Lomond, Port aux Basques, NL, as well as a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa Mary Currie, daughter Patsy, son Nelson and sister Esther. Visitation took place at Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Monday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at St. James Anglican Church with Rev. Hannah Dicks officiating. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hills. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home.

FRANCIS, Roxanne Elizabeth
Nov. 7, 1965 - May 16, 2011

It is with great sadness the family of Roxanne Elizabeth Francis announces her sudden passing at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, NS on May 16, 2011 surrounded by her family and friends. Roxanne was born in Port aux Basques on Nov. 7, 1965. She was the daughter of Rita and Malcolm Osmond, Doyles. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, partner Herman Acker, Glace Bay; sons Michael and Matthew, Glace Bay; sisters Colleen MacIsaac (Carol), Orangeville, Ont; Tracy Ward (Rick), Port aux Basques; brothers Wayne Francis, Fort MacMurray; Paul Francis (Jackie), Mount Uniacke; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The funeral took place May 23 at St. James Anglican Church in Port aux Basques. Internment followed at Barachois Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the family.

GILLAM, Mary Camilia
April 14, 1923 - May 12, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary C Gillam announces her passing on Thursday, May 12, at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Center at the age of 88 years. Mary was the daughter of the late Reuben and Blanche Tibbs. She was also predeceased by her husband Roy in 1998, mother and father in law Wilfred (Cedella) Gillam. brother Malcom, sister Ruby (Jim) Reid. In laws; Leona (Reg) Lawrence, Georgina (Reg) Ford, Florence (Albert) Sheaves, Emanuel (Julie) Gillam, Wilfred (Patricia) Gillam, Jean (Marion) Samelko. She leaves to mourn with many fond and loving memories sister Blanche Skiffington; sister-in-law Sheila (Grant) Lundrigan; nieces and nephews; Bette (Junior) Bragg, Lorna (Ben) Savory, Sharyn (Darryl) Ulrich, Paul Gillam, David (Jocelyn) Gillam, Derek (Paula) Gillam, Ruby (Harvey Francis), Albert Gillam (Annie White), and a large circle of friends. Visitation took place on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Saturday May 14, 11 AM at St. James Anglican Church Channel officiated by Rev. Hannah Dicks. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. GILLIS, John Dominic
November 17, 1917 - May 28, 2011

Passed peacefully away on May 28, 2011 at the Health Sciences Complex in St. John's in the presence of his loving family, John Dominic Gillis, formerly of Codroy Valley, in his 94th year. John was a member of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit from 1940 until 1946 and served in Scotland during WWII. He is predeceased by his parents: John Gillis and Mary Catherine (Jennings) Gillis and his siblings: Edward (Mary Gillis); Gerald; Elizabeth (Martin Flynn); Muriel (Sandy McInnis); Emeline (Leo Ryan); Anne (teacher); Clara; Theresa; Kathleen (Sister Cyrilla of the Sisters of St. Martha); Veronica (Ed Berringer), and Joseph. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his sister, Josephine Gillis; sister-in-law, Bernice Gillis; and many nephews, nieces, and other relatives. He will be resting at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Codroy Va lley. Visitation Tuesday 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm . The Funeral Mass took place on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 10:00 am at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, officiated by Father Edward Terry. Interment followed at Mount St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery. McDOUGALL, Lockland Michael
March 14, 1939 - May 7, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lockie McDougall announces his passing, on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, after a long term illness, at the age of 72 years. Born in Wreckhouse, NL, he was the son of the late Lockie and Emily (nee Moore) MacDougall. He is survived by his sisters: Kay (Caleb) Carter, Port aux Basques; brothers: Hughie (May), Lavoy, Alberta; Kevin (Bonnie), Cape Ray; Jimmy (Doreen), O'Regan's; Vincent (Brenda), Port aux Basques, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers: Duncan, Chesley, Martin and Johnny. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques on Sunday 7 - 9 pm and Monday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. Visitation then took place at Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church in St. Andrews on Tuesday 10 am - 1 pm, from where the funeral service took place on Tuesday, May 10 at 2 pm, Father Edward Terry officiated. Interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted or donations made to the Ronald MacDonald House, St. John's. O'QUINN, Mary Barbara (Ryan)
Passed peacefully away on May 18th, 2011, in the presence of her loving family at St. John's, Mary Barbara (Ryan) O'Quinn, formerly of Codroy Valley, Newfoundland, at the age of 74 years. She is predeceased by her parents, Mrs. Emeline (Gillis) Ryan on April 15, 2008 and Leo Ryan (Senior) on February 7, 1988, her brother, Leo Ryan (Junior) on July 13, 2007 and Michael O'Quinn, father of her children on September 14, 2006. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: her two children: Mary (O'Quinn) Kirkland (Tony) of St. John's and Michael O'Quinn (Catherine Dunne) of Gander, her two grandchildren: Anthony and Ashley Kirkland; five brothers: John (Jessie) Ryan of Seal Cove, Roger (Susan) Ryan of Codroy, Gerald (Margaret Rose) Ryan of Codroy, Pat Ryan of Ontario and Leonard Ryan of St. John's; three sisters: Cyrilla Riley of St. John's, Catherine (Garry Bambrick) of St. John's, and Mary (Andy) Noel of Lloydminster; her aunts: Josephine Gillis and Bernice Gillis; and uncle, John Gillis; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives. Following a private service in St. John's, visitation was held at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in the Codroy Valley of Newfoundland, Saturday and Sunday. Funeral Mass was held on Monday, May 23rd, at 10 a.m. No flowers by request but a donation to the charity of your choice may be made in her memory.
