1929 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Thursday, May 4, 2006, William Thomas Anderson of Port aux Basques at the age of 76 years. Born in Port aux Basques he was the son of the late David and Ethel Anderson. He was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law; brother, Montford (Ruth) Anderson; sister Frances (George) Hunt; sisters-in-law, Hazel Vautier and Dora Organ; brothers-in-law, Rodney Vautier, Walter Anderson, Andrew Kendell and Arthur Chant. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife, Elsie of 52 years marriage; his children, Clarence (Linda) Anderson, Wilma (David) Pike, Cathy Warren (Darin Buffet) all of Port aux Basques, Donna (Bruce) Sheaves, Lower Sackville, NS, Sherry Lynn (Chester) Keeping Eastern Passage, NS; his grandchildren, Ashley, Sacha, Kelly, Krista, Chantal, Sommer, Samantha, Tristan, Mitchell and Marcus; brothers and sisters, Geraldine Anderson, Stan (Margaret) Anderson, Ellen Kendell, Rose (Claude) Warren, Florence Anderson (Henry Phillips), Ralph (Margaret) Anderson all of Port aux Basques, Charlie (Trephena) Anderson Isle aux Morts, Ruth (Rollie) Weatherall Montreal, QC and Margaret (Aubrey) Parsons, St. John's, NL; brothers, and sisters-in-law, Bernice Chant, Clarence (Velda) Vautier all of LaPoile, Bill (Barb) Vautier Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces nephews and many friends. Visitation took place on Friday and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Funeral services took place on 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at Wesley United Church officiated by Rev. Patricia Ritchie. Interment followed at the Wesley United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

HERON, Wilson H.
Rose Blanche
1910 - 2006

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, Wilson Harold Heron, at the age of 95 years. Born in Rose Blanche, he was the son of the late George and Francis Heron (nee Strickland). He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his nephew, Walter (Melvina) Heron, Rose Blanche, with whom he resided, their children Walterine (Dean) and Jamie; sisters-in-law, Hazel Ringer (Reg), Labrador City, Jane Heron (Harbour Le Cou) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Annie; brothers, Reg, Roy and Adolphus; sisters, Gertie Moores, Ethel Bobbett, Ida Sinclair, Clara Bond, Nora Simms; brothers-in-law, Louis Moores, George Bobbett, Bill Sinclair, Walter Bond and Jake Simms. Visitation was held on Monday and Tuesday at St. Michael's Anglican Church, Rose Blanche, from where funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 10 with Rev. Ken Abbott officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. The family guest book may be signed through our web site.

SAMSON, Katie Pauline (nee Saunders)
Passed peacefully away at Valley Vista Seniors Complex in Springdale on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, age 73 years. Katie was formerly from Eastport, Bonavista Bay, NL. She was predeceased by her husband, Bert in 1994. In Eastport was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Society of United Fishermen, Lioness, Anglican Church Women and Boy Scouts / Girl Guides of Canada. Katie never missed an opportunity to take part in community activities. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh, either at home or on the stage, and that never changed. She was “sister” to Sam (Marie) and Dave (Sally), Glovertown, she was “Mom” to Gail (Nigel) Turner, Springdale, Janice (Fred) Stuckless, Port aux Basques, Kent (Teresa) Samson, Eastport; and Crystal Samson (Rob Miles), Toronto. She was “Nan Kate” to Dawn (Mark), Helen (Jerry), Melanie (Chris), Jay (Holly) and Sara (Earl) and to her great-grandchildren Julianne and Gavin.
Katie brightened the lives of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

MACARTHUR, Hugh J.
Port au Port East

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hugh J. MacArthur announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the age of 55 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Mary and one son, Ron (Erica) of Port aux Basques, two daughters: Vanessa MacArthur, Jessica (Jason) Bateman, all of Port aux Basques, his mother, Jessie MacArthur of Codroy Valley, eight brothers: Francis (Donna) of Nova Scotia, Leonard (Ann Marie) of Codroy Valley, Jim (Audrey) of Port au Port East, Leo of Port au Port East, Brian of Codroy Valley, Michael of Ontario, Richard (Dianne) of Ontario, Kevin (Mary) of Nova Scotia, one sister, Loretta (Gerard) Brownrigg of Codroy Valley, two grandsons: Liam and Braydon and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Lewis MacArthur, brother, Ronald MacArthur, son-in-law, Mitchell Glavine, sister-in-law Doreen MacArthur. Friends may call at St. Anne's Church, Upper Ferry on Saturday and Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, May 15th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, Upper Ferry with interment in the Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Codroy Valley. Funeral arrangements are under the supervision of Russell's Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street, Stephenville.

Passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, Minnie Marie Osmond in her 39th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving husband, Melvin of 13 years; and precious daughter, Megan; step-daughter, Cheri; step-sons, Cory and Sheldon; mother, Hannah Keeping; mother and father-in-law, Jessie and Bert Osmond; brothers, Henry Keeping (Shelia), Wayne Keeping, Roland Keeping (Roxanne); sister-in-law, Doris Carter (Junior); brothers-in-law, Wayne Osmond (Velda), Roland Osmond (Ruth), Darrell Osmond; dear friend, Karen Simon; as well a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her father John Keeping. Visitation took place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home on Thursday evening 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. from St. James’ Anglican Church with Rev. Passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Friday, May 26, 2006 Stanley Gordon Billard of Port aux Basques at the age of 89 years. Born in Grand Bruit, he was the son of the late Thomas and Sarah Billard. He was predeceased by his wife, Rita on March 31, 2006; his brothers, Herbert, Chesley, Thomas, Andrew, Edward, Wilfred and Leslie; sisters, Clara Munden and Florence Bennett; and son-in-law, Will Pike. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children, Mary Pike, Russell Billard both of Port aux Basques, Les (Joyce) Billard Dartmouth, NS, and Viola (Dennis) Lomond Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; grandchildren, Dave (Wilma) Pike, Paula (Paul) Pike, Scott (Shelly) Billard, Cathy Billard, Tina (Dave) Hay and Joy Lomond; great-grandchildren, Kelly MacDonald, Krista Pike, April Shea, Megan Pike, Emily Pike, Carolyn Wright, Erin Hay, Alex Billard and Mackenzie Billard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Murley Melbourne Halifax, NS, Shirley Ubdegrove Dartmouth, NS, Claude (Thel) Melbourne Spencerville, ON, Harold (Dawna) Melbourne, Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. DOMINIE, Esther
1922 - 2006

Passed away at Mountain Hope Manor, Port aux Basques on Sunday, May 28, 2006 Esther Dominie at the age of 84 years. Born at Cape La Hune, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Arthur Barter. Esther was also predeceased by her husband, James on January 17, 2005; brothers, Arthur, George, Simeon, Ernest, John, William and Arthur. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Ivy (Baxter) Gosse of Port aux Basques; grandchildren, Tony (Maricris) Gosse of Surrey, BC, Tammy (David) Welshman of Winnipeg, Manitoba; great-grandson, Tyler Skinner of Port aux Basques; and great-granddaughter, Cassidy Gosse of Surrey, BC; brother, Edgar (Florence) Pink of Gander; sisters-in-law, Effie Dominie of Ramea, Eva Barter of England and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was held at East Haven Funeral Home Monday 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, 2 p.m. at St. James’ Anglican Church officiated by Rev. 1939 - 2006

Passed away at his residence in Rose Blanche on Monday, May 29, 2006 Russell Hatcher at the age of 66 years. Born at Rose Blanche he was the son of the late Ada and George Hatcher. Russell leaves to mourn his beloved brothers and sister, Wesley Hatcher of Rose Blanche, Cordella (Martin) Lewis of Lower Sackville, NS, George (Miriam) Hatcher of Isle aux Morts; nieces and nephews, Danny (Sherry) Lewis; and children, Melissa and Robin of Lower Sackville, NS, Martin George of Lower Sackville, NS, Derek (Colleen) Hatcher and son Jordin of Isle aux Morts, Trina (Mason) Coombs and sons, Cody and Keenan of Lloydminister, AB, Curtis (Michelle) Hatcher of Isle aux Morts and a large circle of cousins and friends. Visitation was held at St. Michael’s and All Angels Church, Rose Blanche on Tuesday and Wednesday. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at St. Micheal’s and Angels Anglican Church officiated by Rev. Ken Abbott. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.
