CPL. KENNETH CHAD O'QUINN
It is with great sadness that the family of Corporal Kenneth Chad O'Quinn announces his death while serving in Afghanistan on March 3, 2009. Born Jan. 25, 1984 in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL, he was the son of Kenneth and Rhonda (Decker) O'Quinn of Rusagonis, N.B., and fiance to Naomi Holder of Ottawa, Ont. Chad was a great individual who took tremendous pride in being a member of the Canadian Forces. A loving son, Chad cherished his family. Throughout his two tours in Afghanistan, he telephoned, emailed and messaged his family each and every day. He highly valued his faith, his health and loved ones. He challenged life and encouraged others to do the same. A member of the Signals Branch, he was a dedicated soldier who believed in the value of his contribution to the mission in Afghanistan. Chad is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Rhonda; his fiancee, Naomi; his brother and best friend, Adam O'Quinn (Myriah) and their daughter, Alexis of Rusagonis, N.B.; maternal grandmother, Dorcas Jane (Jean) Decker of Centreville, NL; paternal grandparents, Alex and Rosaline of South Branch, NL, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins and his beloved pitbull, Onyx. Chad is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Alfred Decker. Visitation was held at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home on March 13, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on March 14, 2009 at St. Luke's Chapel, CFB Gagetown with Padre Darryl Levy and Rev. EPHRIAM MACDONALD
August 20, 1922 - March 4, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ephriam MacDonald announces his passing on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, at the age of 86 years. Born at Isle aux Morts, Ephriam was the son of the late Thomas and Susan MacDonald. He was predeceased by his son, Milton, grandson, Gerard and sisters Sarah, Blanche and Hazel. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving family: wife, Christina of 63 years marriage; sons Gerald (Kathleen), Burnt Islands, Claude (Patsy), Isle aux Morts; daughters Sheila (Ernest), Burnt Islands, Vera (Thomas), Isle aux Morts, Anne (Clarence), Burnt Islands, Susan (Roland), Isle aux Morts and Martina (Rob), Port aux Basques; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. GERTRUDE ELIZABETH PATEY

June 13, 1926 - March 7, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gertrude Patey announces her passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the age of 82 years. She was predeceased by husband William Patey, parents Annie (nee Osmond) and Robert Patey, sister Mary Hodder, brothers George and Norman Patey. Leaving to mourn, sister Emily Short of Cape Ray; brothers, Russ (Gertie) of Port aux Basques and Isaac (Nora) of Cape Ray; lifetime friend Monford Strickland along with a large circle of nieces and great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews; many friends and her extended care family, Martha Francis, Maude Lomond and Gertie Bryan. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home in Port aux Basques on March 7 and 8. The funeral service took place at St. James' Anglican Church on March 9 at 2 p.m., with interment following at the church cemetery and Rev. M. Boote officiating. Evelyn was born in Port aux Basques, the daughter of the late Edward and Naomi Feaver. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her husband, Dalton; Trinidad; her son, Derek and daughter-in-law, Trina of Edmonton, Alta.; daughter, Michelle, Toronto, Ont.; her sisters, Patricia (Harold) Bartlett and Mary Hefferman (Dave Gillam); and her brother, Calvin (Andrea) Feaver; sister-in-law, Patsy Feaver and aunt Edna Bateman along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many close friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marion Dawe announces her passing on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques at the age of 90 years. Born at Seldom, Fogo Island, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Lavina Anthony. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Thomas on October 3, 1996; daughter, Joan on March 9, 2007 and daughter-in-law, Angela on June 27, 1997. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving family John (Judy) Dawe, Dartmouth, NS, Patsy (Kevin) Byrne and Tom (Mary) Dawe all of Port aux Basques, Debbie (Boss) Pike, Labrador City; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Eric Seaward, Fort McMurray, AB; sisters-in-law, Bessie Head, Gander, NL, Bessie Dawe, Seldom, NL, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. Born in Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late Arthur and Martha Lomond. He was predeceased by his brother, Saul in 2006; sister, Betty in 2008 and brother-in-law, Bill Green. Passed peacefully away at the North Haven Manor, Lewisporte, Kenneth Kendall, age 91 years. Predeceased by wife, Maude and all his brothers and sisters. JOHN JOSEPH ST. CROIX
Aug. 27, 1922 - March 20, 2009

It is with sadness that the family of John Joseph St. Croix announces his passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, Port aux Basques, NL, on March 20, 2009. Joe was born at Coal Brook, NL, on Aug. 27, 1922, the eldest son of Stanislaus and Annie St. Croix. He raised his family and spent his whole life in Coal Brook.
Joe was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Newfoundland Regiment (Artillery), service number 1158179, during the closing months of the war. He returned home in August of 1945, and on Dec. 26, 1945 married his waiting sweetheart Margaret MacArthur at the Roman Catholic Church in South Branch. He worked in the mines at Coal Brook as well as on the "road gang" in the 1940s and early 1950s; in the pulpwood cutting industry; on the building of the TCH in the 1950s; the replacement of the old wooden bridge at Coal Brook; the construction of the Chicnic Lodge; the Railway overpass at North Branch and the breakwater at Port aux Basques in the 1960s. He was an avid fly fisherman and hunter and was well acquainted with the local countryside.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (MacArthur); sons, Ron (Cynthia), Jack (Jackie), Alex (Kit), Neil (Shyanne), Ben (Joanne), Derin (Deanna); daughters, Shirley (Roger Caissie), Patricia (Guy Locke), Imelda (Joe Weiler), Bernette (Shawn AuCoin) and Rhonda (Anthony Winsor); brothers, Fintan (Mary O'Quinn) and Garreth (Ita Mclsaac); sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth (Jack Forward); and by 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, Stanislaus in 1966, brothers, Nicholas in 1995 and Peter in 1997, daughter, Linda Mary in 2000 and mother, Annie in 2007. Visitation took place on March 22 and 23 at St. Sylvester's Roman Catholic Church in South Branch. Funeral mass took place on Tuesday, March 24, 2 p.m., officiated by Father Lee Lainey. Interment followed at St. St. Sylvester's Roman Catholic Cemetery in South Branch.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Clayton Dominey announces his passing at Calder Health Centre on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the age of 78 years. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Dominey; sons, Brian and Terry; sisters, Eva Warren and Irene Durnford; granddaughter, Nina; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Earl. Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving family his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth; sons, Bill (Nina), Clyde (Evan) and Todd (Gloria); daughters, Sandra (Bill), Diane (Sam) and Tracey; grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew, Mason, Jennifer, Clayton, Tara, Adam and William; sister, Clara Kendall; his best buddy Charlie Anderson; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place on April 5, and April 6, at St. Augustine's Anglican Church in Margaree. Funeral services took place on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Augustine's Anglican Church, officiated by Canon Duncan Granter. ELLA OSBOURNE
CODROY, NL
OCT. 22, 1926 - MAR. 30, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ella Osbourne announces her passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Ella was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Carter. She was predeceased by her husband, William Seward Osbourne; and brothers, Frederick and William Carter. Leaving to mourn her daughter, Doreen; son-in-law, David; grandchildren, Anthony, Amanda (Emanuel), Adam, Christina and Damien (Rachel); great-grandchildren, Haylie, Kyle and Trinity all residing in Toronto, ON; five sisters, Dorothy Confiant (Thomas) of North Sydney, Kay Samms (late Howard Samms), Vera Harding (Thomas), Greta Collier (Ernest) and Carol Farrell (Howard), all of Codroy; loving sister-in-law, Florence Carter of Port aux Basques; as well as a large Circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends visited Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Codroy on March 30 from 7-9 p.m., March 31 and April 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from where the funeral service took place on Thursday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Peter Boote officiating. Interment followed at Mount Patricia Cemetery in Corner Brook. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Primate's World Relief Fund, The Anglican Church of Canada, 80 Hayden St., Toronto, ON. M4Y 3G2, Tel: 1-888-308-7973.
