BENNETT, Edith Kyra
October 14, 1916 - June 14, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edith Kyra Bennett announces her passing on Tuesday, June 14 at the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Center at the age of 94 years. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Alice Mauger and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also predeceased by her husband Samuel, daughter Nancy, sisters Sadie and Mildred and brother Gordon. Left to mourn with fond and precious memories her son Gordon (Rita) and daughter Leila (Bryson) Webb, sister-in-law Merina Mauger, grandchildren Johnny, Paul, Jason, Justin, Michele, Trevor and Ian. Great-grandchildren Vanessa, Denika, Mason, Kayla, Makenna, Cole and Rogan, also her two special caregivers Olive and Cassie and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation took place on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Friday, June 17 at Wesley United Church, officiated by Rev. BILLARD, Phyllis
March 9, 1932 - June 23, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Phyllis Billard announces her passing at the age of 79, on Thursday, June 23 at the Dr. Charles Legrow Health Center, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Arthur and Amelia Skinner. She was also predeceased by sisters Classie, Ida, Adeline, Alfreda, Cora; brothers Elijah, Joshua; parents-in-law Peter and Emma Billard; brother-in-law Augustus Walters; sisters-in-law Audrey Billard and Olive (Freeman) Northcott. She leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories her husband Henry of 59 years marriage, children Wayne (Elsie) Billard Margaree NL, Sheila (Dennis) King Green's Harbour NL, grandchildren Dawn (Barry) Fudge, Wendy (Chris) Osmond, Myles (Trina) Billard , Shauna (Jonathan Grant), Tanya (Wayne) Pike, Lana (Andrew) Lahey, Denise (Marc Lewis), great-grandchildren Haley, Emma, Brady, Peter, Kalan, Katie, Logan, Eric, brothers Frederick (Betty) Skinner Margaree, Warden (Alice) Skinner Isle aux Morts, sister Ruth (Matthew) Street Port aux Basques. sisters-in-laws Ruby (Marvin) Currie Margaree, Annie Walters Fox Roost, brothers-in-laws Cyril Billard Margaree, Roland Billard Margaree and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. BRAGG, Joan Ruth (Pike)
July 7, 1951 to June 21, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Bragg announces her passing at the age of 59, on Tuesday, June 21 at the Dr. Charles Legrow Health Center, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Joan was an extraordinary spirit and a true inspiration to all who knew her, especially her family. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend, Joan always had a smile for everybody and a gift for making everyone she knew feel special. She leaves to mourn, with loving and precious memories, husband Nelson Bragg, daughters, Cindy, Kim (Martin Watters) and Cathy (Dave Scharf) Bragg, grandchildren Claire Bragg, Caitlyn and Ella Scharf, sisters Jean Hardy, Cook (Beulah) Strickland (Leo), and Jocelyn Leamon (Rick) and many other special family and friends. She was predeceased by mother and father Maisie and Willoughby Pike, mother-in-law and father-in-law Madeline and Nathan Bragg, brothers Will (Mary) Pike and Frank (Marg) Pike, sister-in-law Sheila (Lorne) Munden and brother-in-law Alex (Jane) Hardy. May she join them forever in peace. In honor of Joan's wishes, she has been cremated. Visitation took place on Thursday June 23 from 2-4 PM and from 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. LOMOND, Harold Gordon
October 31, 1941 - June 22, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold Gordon Lomond announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday June 22, at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center in Port aux Basques at the age of 69 years. Born at Port aux Basques, Harold was the son of the late Solomon and Martha Lomond. He was also predeceased by his brothers Solomon and Edgar, and sister Elizabeth Kendall. Brothers in law; Edward Kendall and William Green. Cherished and devoted husband for 47 years of Eileen (nee Taylor). Loving father of Paula (Randy) Penney, Stephen (Trudy) Lomond all of Torbay NL. Dinah (Corwin) Durnford Pasadena NL. Proud poppy of Julia, Danielle, Mackenzie, and Alyssa. Dear brother of Eric (May) Lomond Stephenville NL, Howard (Alice) Lomond Corner Brook NL, Hilda Green, Mildred (Donald) Hann, Dulcie (Bert) Chaulk all of Port aux Basques, Ruth (Tom) Andrews Ontario. Harold will be sadly missed by his in laws Tryphena Lomond Stephenville, Joyce Lomond Port aux Basques, Phyllis (Ron) Parsons Rose Blanche, Elizabeth (Richard) Wilkinson, William (Ruth) Taylor, all of Dartmouth NS, Edna (Roy) Sheaves Port aux Basques, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Harold was a fun loving man, who had friends in every corner of the world. His love of life, family, community spirit and friends will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have had him touch their lives in any way. To know him was to love him, and he will be dearly missed. Visitation took place on Thursday from 7-9 PM and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. MUNDEN, Ralph
May 10, 1923 - June 26, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ralph Munden announces his passing at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Center Sunday June 26, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Born at Burnt Islands, Ralph was the son of the late William and Isabel Munden. He was also predeceased by his wife Hazel 2003, sons Randolph 1985, Frederick 2003, brothers William, Thomas, Kenneth, Frederick, Jack, sister Stella Mae. He leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories his loving family daughters Susannah (Gilbert Stone) Glovertown, Norma (Chester Harris) Burnt Islands, 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law Loretta Munden Burnt Islands, Renee Pye Halifax, sister-in-law Annie Munden Burnt Islands and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Monday and Tuesday from St. George's Anglican Church, Burnt Islands. Funeral service took place on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 2 PM at St. George's Anglican Church, Burnt Islands officiated by Rev Kris Gosse. OSMOND, Nelson
January 15, 1927 - June 26, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nelson Osmond announces his passing at the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Center, Port aux Basques at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his wife Anne, December 25, 2007, his parents George and Lillian Osmond, brother George, sisters Lucy Temple and Hazel Downey, brothers-in-law Fred Walters, Larry Temple, Les Chaulk. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Brenda (Alfred) Warren Pasadena, Rhonda Watts Red Deer AB, Nelson (Gloria) Osmond Grand Prairie AB, Terry (Laura) Osmond Port aux Basques, Chad Osmond Port aux Basques, sisters Julie (late Fred Walters), Rose (late Jim Carter), Vivian (late Les Chaulk), sister-in-law Dorothy (late George Osmond), special nephew Danny (Corina) Hynes. Grandchildren Jenny, Jody, Bobbi and Ira Gill, Jamie (Lori) Warren, Jason (Beverley) Warren, Clinton and Tiffany Osmond, Kaitlyn Osmond, great-grandchildren David Brake, Jack, Joshua and Sam Warren as well as a large circle of In-laws, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. Visitation took place from East Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday June 29, 2011 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. SHORT, Dorothy Katherine (nee Tapp)
Port Aux Basques, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dorothy Short announce her passing Sunday, June 5th, 2011 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 76 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories ; her son: Bruce; daughter: Beverley (Cecil); grandchildren: Amy, Andrew, Vanessa and George; brothers: Eric (Maude) and Jim (Shirley); as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, George; parents: Thomas and Gladys Tapp; brothers: John Elijah and Chesley; and sister, Vera. Granting her wishes, cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Friends and family may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port Aux Basques on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 9th at 10:00 A.M. from St. James Anglican Church, with Reverend Hannah Dicks officiating. SKINNER, Keith Allan
January 14, 1972 - June 2, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Keith Allan Skinner announces his passing at St. John's on Thursday June 2, 2011 at the age of 39 years. Born at St. John's, Keith is predeceased by his sister Donna, grandparents Snook and Elizabeth Skinner, grandfather Thomas Green. He leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories his loving family parents Allan and Rita Mae Skinner, sisters Darlene (Graham Short) Bauline NL, Josephine Skinner St. John's NL; brother Joseph Skinner Kitchener ON; nieces and nephews Tonya, Dylan, Joey, Nicole, Brady-Lee, Jacob-Don; daughter Summer and her mom Amy; grandmother Melita Green Port aux Basques NL and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eisther E Spencer announces her passing on Thursday, June 2, at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Center at the age of 88 years. Eisther was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Hardy. She was also predeceased by her husband Samuel in 2001, daughter Millie and son Samuel, brothers James, Richard, Harry and Cecil; sister Mary; half sisters Elizabeth, Susanna and Bertha. STONE, Herbert C
Port aux Basques, NL
September 12, 1917 - June 9, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Herbert Stone announces his passing on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques at the age of 93 years. Herbert was the son of the late Frank and Annie Stone (nee Strickland). He was also predeceased by his sister Dorothy, sister Rita Sheaves, brother Maxwell Stone, sister-in-law Carrie Stone and brother-in-law Airmain Sheaves. Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories, sister Bernice Osmond and brother-in-law Albert, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews, many friends, including those friends and staff at Mountain Hope Manor. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home in Port aux Basques on Thursday evening and Friday. The funeral service took place on Saturday, June 11 at 2 p.m. at Wesley United Church in Port aux Basques. STROWBRIDGE, Russell Norman
Age 73 of Lower South River, Antigonish, NS, formally of Port aux Basques, Nfld. Passed away peacefully on June 17, 2011 surrounded by his loving family in St. Martha's Regional Hospital. Russell was born in Jersey Harbour, Nfld. on May 26, 1938. Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Jessie (Snook), brother Leo and sister Winnie (Prior). Russell experienced a variety of work during his life, including teaching, commercial fishing, carpentry and worked for 25 years as a pipe-fitter with Marine Atlantic. He was not only a wonderful husband and father, he was a man of many talents, a master at building and an expert at fixing things. He loved music, playing the accordion, hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his family and friends. Survived by his wife, Roberta (Rose) of 51 years; daughter Wanda (Dale) Bogle, Antigonish, NS; sons Russell Jr. (Joanne), Port aux Basques, Nfld., Randy (Valerie), Paradise, Nfld., Roger (Joanne), Antigonish, NS; sisters Ella (Gordon Stoodley) and Ivy (Collier); grandchildren: Melissa, Darren, John, Jessica, Charlene, Randell, Matthew, Mallory and Tyson; great-grandchildren: Bristol, Logan, Gavin and on the day that Jesus welcomed Russell into his garden, he blessed him with a new great-grandson Cash Wyatt Russell Strowbridge. The Strowbridge Family would like to send a huge thanks to Dr. Steve Gallant and the staff at St. Martha's Regional Hospital especially the dialysis unit and all who cared for him during his stay. Visitation was Monday, June 20th from 7-9 p.m. in the CL Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Russell will be transferred to Port aux Basques, Nfld. for visitation on July 21, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in East Haven Funeral Home. Service will be held on July 22, 2011 in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, Nfld. At 2 p.m., burial to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery. - A celebration of life will be held for the late Russell Strowbridge at St. Paul's Anglican Church Friday July 22, 2011 at 2pm. There will be a visitation on Thursday at East Haven Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9.
