SAMMS, FLORENCE MARGARET
March 19,1933 - June 15, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Florence Margaret Samms announce her passing at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Center in Port aux Basques, Nfld., on Sunday, June 15, 2008 in her 75 year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her son, Emanuel (Hazel) Samms; daughter, Classie (Garland) Hilliard, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Florence was predeceased by her husband, John in 2002, her daughter, Matilda in August 2007, four brothers and three sisters. Cremation has taken place. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques on Thursday, June 19 between the hours of 10 a.m.-1 p.m, from where a service of remembrance took place at 2 p.m., with Reverend Fudge officiating. Interment followed at Barachois Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted. The family guest book may be signed by visiting our website www.fillatre.ca

DALE, CHESLEY ROBERT
Port aux Basques, NL
Dec. 11,1927 - June 15, 2008

Passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Hospital on Sunday, June 15, 2008 Chesley R. Dale, at the age of 80 years. Predeceased by his wife, Charlotte (2005); sister, and brother-in-law, Rita (Slim) Basile, Evelyn (Gappy) Marakowski and brother, William. Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories his children, Lloyd, Winnifred MacDonald (George), Edward (Kay), Rosalie Musseau (Calvin); sisters, Diana Noseworthy (Gerald), Stephenville, Marjorie Stevenson, St. John's; sister-in-law, Margaret, St. John's; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service took place at Wesley United Church on Tuesday, June 17 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery. KETTLE, ERIC MAXWELL
June 14, 1930-June 15, 2008

Passed away at the Dr. Charles L LeGrow Health Centre on Sunday, June 15, 2008, Eric Maxwell Kettle at the age of 78. Born in Grand Bay, Newfoundland he was the son of the late Ernest and Catherine Kettle. He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Mary (Rose), sisters Mary Hardy, Cedella Fraser, Greta (Albert) Bishop, Eileen (Ed) Hill, Verina Kettle, Phyllis (Bud) Hopkins, all of Dartmouth, N.S., Ruth (Fred) Lomond, Sandra (Albert) Kettle, Joan (Roy) Richards, Edith (Ron) March, all of Grand Bay, sisters-in-law Susie Kettle, Kathleen Knott, Margaret (Roland) Zwicker, Edith (Jim) Parsons, Joan (John) Wahay, Jane (Jim) Chaulk and brother-in-law Robert Rose and many nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. Predeceased by sisters Blanche and Mildred and brother Wesley. Max was a devoted member of Cabot Masonic Lodge and Royal William LOL #20. He worked with CN and Marine Atlantic until his retirement in 1986. Max also had the privilege of being one of the crew of the famous ship Matthew and was at the wheel when she sailed into Port aux Basques harbour. His remains rested at Fillatre's Funeral Home and the funeral service took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at St. James' Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Hugh Fudge and Rev. Kathleen Knott. Interment fol­lowed at St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, under the direction of Fillatre's Funeral Home Ltd.

CAMPBELL, MILDRED MARY
1937-2008

It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Mildred Campbell, Lock Lomond, Codroy Valley, NL on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Predeceased by parents, John and Martha McNeil of Port aux Basques; son, Michael; sisters, Marina, Elizabeth and Martha; and brothers, Fred, Jim and Arthur. Sadly missed by husband, Malcolm; daughters, Barbara Aucoin (Stanley) and Martha Anderson (Corwin); son, Art (Kathy); grandchildren, Jamie, Kelly, Nicole, Jonathon, Samantha, Leslie and Jasmine; great-grandchildren, Madison, Kyle, Hunter, Kayla, Tyler, Kelsey, Dukota, Joshua and Jadon; sister, Minnie Mathews (Edgar); brother, William McNeil (Elsie); and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home and St. Ann 's Church in Upper Ferry. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, June 18 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Ann 's Church with Father Lainey officiating. Interment followed at Mount St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery.

PHILLIPS, HENRY JR.
November 20, 1925 - June 22, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Henry Phillips Jr. announce his passing on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Born in Hare Harbour he was the son of the late Henry and Julia Phillips. He is predeceased by daughter Helen, sister Martha Hickey, brother Maxwell Phillips and brother-in-law Thomas Hatch. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his family: wife, Florence Anderson of Port aux Basques; daughters, Ada (John) Moore of Harbour Breton, Martha (Mark) Bolt of Grand Le Pierre, Lucy (Aubrey) Blagdon of Marystown, Maxine (Bill) Clarke of English Harbour West and Judy (Russell) Lace of Brooks, Alberta; step-daughter, Janet (Elroy Battiste) Anderson of Port aux Basques; sons, Charlie (Lorraine) Phillips of Gould's, William Phillips of Stephenville, David Phillips of Grand Le Pierre and Eric (Ruth) Phillips of Grand Le Pierre; son-in-law, Garland Barnes of Grand Le Pierre; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, James (friend Aileen) Phillips of Louisburg and Albert (Hilda) Phillips of Buchans; sister, Emma Hatch of Grand Bank; brother-in-law, Raymond Hickey of Grand Le Pierre; sister-in-law, Annie Phillips of English Harbour West and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation took place on Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. Visitation continued on Tuesday and Wednesday at St. Thomas Anglican Church, English Harbour West. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 26, 2008, 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Anglican Church, English Harbour West, officiated by Rev. Bruce Vallis and Rev. Peter Wendover. Internment followed at St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery, English Harbour West. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300 and Spencer's Funeral Home, Harbour Breton.

COURTNEY, MAXWELL
October 24,1918 - June 25, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Maxwell Courtney announce his passing on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Born in Petites, Nfld., he was the son of the late James and Florence Courtney. He is predeceased by his wife Cordelia, great-grandson Eddie Marr; brothers Fred, Clayton and Norman, sisters Doris (James) Jardine, Jane (Sidney) Courtney, Bertha (John) Harris, Gertrude (William) Smith, Valetta (Henry) Newman and Amelia (Harvey) Mauger and sister-in-law Dora Cox. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his family: son Danny (Carmelita) Courtney of Conception Bay South; daughters Ruth (George Mauger) Devereux of Rose Blanche and June (Ray) Woolridge of Kitchener, Ont., grandchil­dren Grant Courtney, Cara Courtney, Shawnda Franson, Wendy Marr, David Woolridge and Kari Woolridge; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Raymond (Viola) Mauger of Port aux Basques; sisters-in-law Lydia (Wilfred) Vautier of Sudbury, Ont., Jessie (Fred) Kipping of Riverview, N.B., and Marie Cole of Middleton, N.S.; brother-in-law John Cox of Sydney, N.S., and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Visitation took place on Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. Funeral services were held on Saturday June 28, 2008, 2 p.m. at Wesley United Church, Channel, officiated by Rev. Patricia Ritchie. Internment followed at Wesley United Cemetery, TCH. Funeral arrangements are in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

HARDY, ERNEST
June 25, 1947 - June 28, 2008

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ernest Hardy announce his sudden passing on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the age of 61. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife, Jacqueline; daughters, Tracey (Wilson) Foote, Bonnie (Gordon) Hardy, April (Trevor) Leamon; grandchildren, Sarah, Rebecca, Heather, Haley; brothers, John (Stacey), Richard (Patsy); sisters, Mary (Gerry) Hardy, Maisie (Boyd) Ledrew, Sandra; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon, Lew (Margaret), Jean (Bill), Wayne (Joyce), Ivan (Wanda), Linda (Robert), Stewart (Debra), Barry, Diane (Jeff), Donna, Denise (Larry) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ernest was prede­ceased by his mother and father, Richard and Maisie Hardy, brother James Hardy, nephew Brett and father-in-law Charles "Chappy" Clevett. Visitation took place on Sunday and Monday at Fillatre's Funeral Home. The funeral service took place on Tuesday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at St. James' Anglican Church in Port aux Basques.
