Loving mother and grandmother
July 1, 1940 - June 1, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Janet Searl announce her passing on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Hospital in Port aux Basques, NL. Janet was predeceased by Sarah and James LeRiche (Mom and Pop); son, John Peter Searl; brother, Benjamin LeRiche and loving partner, Ralph Bennett. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories sons, Michael (Michelle) and Joseph (Nancy) Searl of Ontario; three granddaughters, Sally, Shawna and Lacey Searl, Ontario; sister-in-law, Kathleen (late Benjamin) LeRiche, Port aux Basques; niece Donna (Art) Pauls, Corner Brook; nephews, Leonard (Sharon) St. John’s, Derek (Georgie) Port aux Basques and Alex LeRiche, Port aux Basques. Janet will also be sadly missed by mother, Regis Battiste, Port aux Basques; brothers, Willard (Elaine), David, Garry (Bertha) Battiste, Port aux Basques; sisters, Ellen (John) Devine, Ontario, Arthena (Jim) Osmond, Port aux Basques, Sandra (Bryan) Campbell, Searston, Linda Battiste (Dave) Stephenville, Bonnie (Ernest) Hardy, Isle aux Morts, Carolann (Dave) Didsbury, New Brunswick, Wanda (Barry) Smith, Gander, as well as many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. Following her cremation, a memorial service was held on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the East Haven Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Hugh Fudge. Interment of her ashes followed at the Anglican Church Cemetery in Port aux Basques. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

KEEPING, Stella Mae
1918 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center on Friday, June 2, 2006 Stella Mae Keeping of Burnt Islands at the age of 87 years. Born in Burnt Islands she was the daughter of the late William and Isabelle Munden. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Keeping in 1986; grandsons, Clifford and Alvin; brothers, John Munden, William Munden, Ken Munden, Fredrick Munden, Tom Munden and George Robert Munden; sister, Ida Rose Munden; brothers-in-law, Wendell Keeping and James Keeping; and sisters-in-law, Ellen Keeping, Leah Munden, Margaret Munden, Olive Munden, Hazel Munden and Harriet Keeping. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children, Willoughby (Selina) Keeping of Halifax, NS, Elizabeth (George) Barrett of Bishop’s Cove, NL, Clifford (Betty) Keeping, Fred (Ada) Keeping, Wilfred Jr. (Carol) Keeping, Carl (Barbara) Keeping and Chesley (Susan) Keeping all of Burnt Islands; 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; brother, Ralph Munden Burnt Islands; sister-in-law, Annie Munden Burnt Islands and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday at St. George’s Anglican Church in Burnt Islands. Funeral services took place on Monday June 5, 2006 2 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Ken Abbott. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. HYNES, Wilson
1949 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at Sir Thomas Roddick in Stephenville on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 Wilson John Hynes at the age of 57 years. He was the son of the late Wilson John Hynes and Dolores Pearl Legge (nee Pike). He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Wade, Elvis; and sister, Brenda; father-in-law, William Bobbett; and brother-in-law, Lewis Battiste. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Audrey (nee Bobbett) of 38 years marriage; his daughters, Bernadine (Sheldon) Osmond Port aux Basques, Tammy (Jamie) Compton of Laurenceton, NL; son, Jamie Hynes of Fort McMurray, Alberta; seven grandchildren, Wilson, Della, Sheldine, Jamie, Tommy, Nicole and Kaitlyn; brothers and sisters, George (Sharon) Samms, St. John’s NL; Darin (Tina) Samms, Ontario; Dermot (Kim) Samms, Alberta; James (Michelle) Legge, Glenda (John) Burnham, Delores Samms and Gwen (Allan) McNeil, all of Stephenville; Jean Samms, Mattis Point; Christina (John) Joy, British Columbia; Doreen (Phil) Zita Ontario; and mother-in-law, Irene Bobbett; brothers-in-law, Ken (Cluda) Bobbett; Phil Bobbett (Mary) and Elroy (Linda) Bobbett; sisters-in-law, Mary Battiste and Bernadine Hoskins (Jerome) all of Port aux Basques, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Cremation was in the care of Russell’s Funeral Home Stephenville, after which his ashes were taken to his favourite spot, his cabin in Spruce Brook.

RYAN, Michael (Mickey) Martin
1939 - 2006

Passed away at his residence on Thursday, June 8, 2006 Michael Martin Ryan of O’Regan’s at the age of 67 years. Michael was born on May 20, 1939 to the late Edward J. and Mary Ryan. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces at a very young age in 1956 and was stationed in Germany. In his later years he moved on to work with Syncrude of Canada in Fort McMurray Alberta, until his retirement on December 31, 1994. He was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Ann on December 16, 1963, grandson, Logan Michael Ryan on November 23, 1996, sisters Bernice Ryan on January 1, 1945 and Caroline Ryan on November 19, 1998. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his devoted wife Cecilia of 43 years marriage; his children, Timothy of O’Regan’s; Thomas (Judy) of Calgary, Alberta; Wanda (Christopher) Leinweber of Calgary, Alberta; Michelle (Mark) Cochrane of Alberta and Kathleen of Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren, Kyle and Liam Leinweber and Lauren Nicklom; brothers, Robert Dryden of Ontario, Charles (Marlene) of Dryden, Ontario; David (Bernadine) of St. Andrew’s and Colin Ryan of Calgary, Alberta, sisters, Veronica (Thomas) MacDonald of Miramichi, NB; Philomena (Francis) MacIsaac of Dartmouth, NS; Shirley (Ronald) AuCoin, Tompkins; Colette (Raymond) Warren of Dryden, Ontario and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Mickey will be remembered far and wide for his amazing wit and sense of humor. His legend will live on forever with his extended family and numerous friends.

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Friday, June 9, 2006, George Anthony Ryan of Codroy at the age of 72 years. Born in O’Regans, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jane Ryan. He was also predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife, Debbie of 25 years of marriage; his children, George Jr., Hammond’s Plains, NS; Corey (Pam) Hammond’s Plains, NS; Paul (Tammy), Toronto, ON; and daughter, Amy (Sean), Corner Brook, NL; brothers, Bill (Catherine), Woodville; James (Irene), Codroy; Carl (Maureen), Savona, BC; Joe (Shirley), Ontario; sister, Sophia (Clifford) Gallop, Woodville; and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church Upper Ferry on Saturday evening and Sunday. FUDGE, Lily Lovetta
1923 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Friday, June 9, 2006 Lily Lovetta Fudge of Rose Blanche at the age of 82 years. Born in Belleoram, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Blanche Bond. She was predeceased by her husband, John Fudge in 1977; and also by her brother, Reginald Bond and his wife, Hilda. After moving to Rose Blanche, Lily and her husband raised their family and she was also very devoted to her job as Town Clerk. Her warm smile and sense of humor made everyone around her feel very special and for this she will surely be missed. She leaves to mourn with many fond and loving memories grandson, John (Alicia) Fudge who was the love of her life; children, Ian (Jane) Fudge, Corner Brook, William (Geraldine) Fudge, Port aux Basques, Jacqueline (Frank) Richibucto, NB, Linda (Keltie), Rose Blanche and Stephanie (Murray) Keough, Thompson, Manitoba; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Barbour, St. John’s, NL and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Then, continued on Monday from St. Michael’s and All Angel’s Anglican Church in Rose Blanche. Passed away Monday, June 12th, 2006 Hartley Hayman Sr. at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 73. He will be sadly missed by his wife Annie May (Warren); sons: Hartley Jr. (Mary), Herman, Clayton, Colin (Rebecca); daughters: Gloria & Tiffany (Tony); 5 grandchildren: Dustin, Kellie, Cody, Guy, Tanya; 5 brothers: Allan (Margaret), Halifax, NS, Gerald (Leona), Deer Lake, Clyde, Ramea, John (Helen), Burgeo, Ronald (Chris), Ramea; 4 sisters: Hilda Musseau, Halifax, NS, Grace Vardy, Port Aux Basques, Winnetta (Wilson Osmond), Sarnia, ON, Rita (Malcolm Osmond), Doyles, NL and numerous other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 14th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Boniface Anglican Church, Ramea, Reverend Hubert Vallis officiating, followed by the interment at the Church Cemetery. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ralph Croucher (Sr.) announce his passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Tuesday, June 13th, 2006 in his 81st year. Ralph was the son of the late Frederick and Dollena Croucher of Burnt Islands. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife Alice of 63 years; daughter Evelyn Keeping; sons: Max (Winnifred), Calvin (Beverly), Ralph (Shelia) all of Burnt Islands, Montford, Valleyfield and Tony (Lori), Brampton, ON; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers: Jack (Lucy) and Freeman (Helen); sisters: Mary and Maggie (Percy), as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by sisters: Martha and Ann; brothers: Max, George, Cyril and son-in-law Austin. Visitation took place at his son’s residence, Calvin in Burnt Islands on Thursday and Friday. Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 Wilson (Buzzy) Strickland of Port aux Basques at the age of 88 years. Born in Port aux Basques he was the son of the late Samuel and Margaret Strickland. He was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Lillian Ross, John Chaulk, George Chaulk and Garland Strickland. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife Phyllis of 63 years marriage; his children, Ronald (Butch) (Ruby) Strickland, Cavendish, NL; Baxter (Dianne) Strickland, Port aux Basques; Joseph (Bonita) Strickland, Doyles and Robert Strickland (Marie) of Port aux Basques; two granddaughters, Mandy and Melissa Strickland; brother, Frank Strickland, Ottawa; sister, Dorothy Moores, St. John’s; brother-in-law, Don Ross, Halifax, NS; sister-in-law, Ann Bennett, Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Wesley United Church officiated by Rev. Patricia Ritchie. Interment followed at Wesley United Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. From 1939-1945 Buzzy served his country in the Royal Navy. He served as an active member of the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years in which time he spearheaded many projects. His fondest being the Poppy Campaign and the Legion Memorial Park, in which he took great pride. His involvement in the community will surely be missed by everyone whose lives have been touched by his great work.

Passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Wednesday, June 14th, 2006, Joseph Edwards in his 85th year. He was the son of the late Henry and Minnie (nee Shepherd) Edwards. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife of 60 years, Ruth; three sons: Wayne (Daphne), Gerald (Maxine), Rick (Wanda); daughters: Linda Horwood (George), Pauline Kearley (Travis); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Glendon Edwards; sister Jeannie Austin, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by two sons: Barry and Gary and brother Gordon. Visitation took place at the family residence in Harbour Le Cou on Thursday and Friday. Funeral services took place on Saturday, June 17th at 11:00 am from St. Michael's Anglican Church with Reverend Ken Abbott officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery. NORTHCOTT, Samuel D.
Margaree, NL

Passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 68th year, Samuel D. Northcott, on June 16th, 2006 after a brief illness with cancer. Born in Deer Island, NL, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Minnie) Northcott. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife Susanna of 40 years; children: Blair (Clare) Saint John, NB, Keith (Trina) Blackfalds, AB, Brent (Sheri) Whitecourt, AB, Wanda-Lee (Michael Stone), Margaree, NL and Edwin (Krista) Red Deer, AB; sisters: Effie Billard, Flora Crewe and Gladys Osmond; brother Freeman and his greatest joys, the grandchildren: Cecilia Gaslard, David Stone and Dalton Northcott, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by son Glen and an infant son Derrick; sisters: Lillian and Faith. The family received friends at St. Augustine's Church in Margaree, NL on Sunday and Monday. The Funeral Service took place on Tuesday, June 20th at 2:00 pm with Reverend Duncan Granter officiating, assisted by Bishop Leonard Whitten. Interment followed at St. Augustine's Cemetery, Margaree. 1939 - 2006

Passed suddenly away on Sunday June 18th, 2006, David Gordon Osmond of Doyles (formerly of Port aux Basques) at the age of 67 years. Born in Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Annie (nee Kettle) Osmond. He was predeceased by his sisters: Alice (Art) MacNeil and Dorothy (Jerry) Vasquez. Also by his father-in-law Thomas Hilliard. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his common-law wife Annie Hilliard. His children: Deryldene (Geoff) Tucker, Gander, NL; Kenneth (Melanie Rattray) Osmond, Mount Uniacke, NS; Craig (Laurie Ann Hilliard) Osmond, Lower Sackville, NL. Grandchildren: Jessika, Kristen, Kenny, and Cameron. Stepchildren: George Hilliard (Sandra Hilliard), Fred (Bonnie Cormier) Hilliard, Marilyn (Larry Colbourne) Tilli, Scott (Trina) Hilliard, Jason (Trudy) Hilliard, all of Codroy. Visitation took place on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Then continued on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Codroy. Funeral services took place on Thursday June 22nd, 2006, 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Codroy, and was officiated by Rev. Evelyn Smith and Rev. Hugh Fudge. Dave was a kind and loving man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a friendly community minded, hard-working man. His warm smile and great sense of humor will surely be missed by everyone who was blessed to have had a friend like Dave in their lives.

He was predeceased by his mother- and father-in-law, John and Mary Warren; sister-in-law, Bonnie Warren; brothers, Chris Bragg, Claude Bragg, Emmanuel Bragg; sisters, Juanita, Katherine and Adelaide; son-in-law, Steven Bryan; brothers-in-law, Bernard Prosser, Frank Pike, Calvin Warren, and Jason Noseworthy. Visitation took place on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral Services took place on Saturday June 24th, 2006 1 p.m. at St. James' Anglican Church Channel, officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge. Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center on Friday June 23, 2006 William Charles Neil of LaPoile at the age of 90 years. Born at LaPoile he was the son of the late Edward and Annie (nee Chant) Neil. He was also predeceased by his four sisters, Harriet Taylor, Margaret Taylor, Clara Francis, and Beatrice Riles; as well as his nephew, Henry Neil. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his family: sister, Josephine McDermott of Rose Blanche; niece, Debbie (Roland) Organ of La Poile and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, then continued on Saturday from St. Thomas United Church in LaPoile. Funeral services took place on Sunday, June 25, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas United Church in LaPoile, officiated by Rev. Patricia Ritchie. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Mary Lillian Robbins (nee Riles), 1944-2006
, passed peacefully away at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL Friday, June 23, 2006 after a five-year fight with cancer. Mary dealt with her illness with great courage and optimism, always concerned with her family and others, never concerned with herself. Everybody's problem was more concern than hers. Mary will be sadly missed by her friends, her family and by so many who knew her. Mary was predeceased by her grandson, Liam (2003); brother, Alex (1973); and her parents, Emily (1978) and Edward (1979). Left to mourn, her husband of 43 years, Clarence of Deer Lake; sons, John (Vanessa) of Saskatoon, SK and Carl (Nancy) of Clarenville, NL; her sisters, Annie (Cecil Stone) of Rose Blanche, Katie (George King) of Geary, NB, Mildred (Max Seaward) of Greens Harbour, NL, Julie (Ron Slade) of Glenwood, NL; her brothers, Gilbert (Amy) of Port aux Basques, and Henry (Yvonne) of Burnt Islands; her cherished grandchildren, Kianna, Will and Ethan, as well as a large circle of relatives and close friends. Cremation took place on Saturday, June 24, 2006. A memorial service was held at St. Paul's United Church in Deer Lake on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Tony Newell officiating. Donations to St. Paul's United Church Accessibility Church Fund would be gratefully appreciated. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parsons Funeral Home, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL.

Murdock leaves to mourn his loving family: wife, Lucy of 47 years of marriage; and children, Wade (Lisa) of Edmonton, AB, Grace (Stewart) of Searston, Kirk (Colleen) of Woodville, Faye (Dwayne) of Searston, Marlene (Greg) of Halifax, NS and Peter Rossiter of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Shannon (Rick), Jeremy, Bradley, Brandon, Jamie (Deanne), Joshua, Jonathon, Roberta, Desiree, Donovan, Jasmine, James, Damien; and great-grandson, Carter; son-in-law, Larry Colbourne of Codroy Valley; brothers and sisters, Anthony (Eileen) AuCoin, Margaret (Frank) St. Croix, Marie (Brian) Peat of Coal Brook, Sally (Norman) Barkhouse, Josephine (Johnny) Faris of Sheet Harbour, NS; sisters-in-law, Margaret AuCoin of Coal Brook, and Barbara AuCoin of Halifax, NS and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; infant children, David, Mary, John and Shawn; sisters and brothers, Helen (Fred) Dickenson, Gertie AuCoin, Hugh AuCoin, James (Edna) AuCoin, Johnny AuCoin, Arthur AuCoin, Hectar (Bridget) AuCoin and Raymond AuCoin. Visitation took place at St. Anne's R.C. Church, Upper Ferry on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Funeral Mass took place at St. Anne's R.C. Church at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday June 27, 2006 officiated by Father Lee Lainey. Interment followed at Mt. St. Thomas R.C. Cemetery, Codroy Valley. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Olive O'Quinn announce her passing on Friday, June 23rd, 2006 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville at the age of 60 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband David O'Quinn; children: Mike (Cathy), Corner Brook, Shane (Carolyn), Stephenville, Linda (Paul)French, St. Davids, Bruce (Lori), Lumbsdom; father Dorman Goodyear, Bonavista; sisters: Maggie (Ted), New Town, Mary (Bill), New Town, Edna (Bob), California, Myrtle, Lumsdom, Joan (Ralph), Musgrave Harbour and brother Clyde (Evelyn), Wesleyville; grandchildren: Devin, Ocean, Tyler, Brandon, Paula, Tanner, Devin,Travis, Keisha, Felisha, Megan and Charolette as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Friends may visit St. Sylvester Roman Catholic Church, South Branch on Satruday evening 7-9 p.m., Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. - 12 Noon from where the funeral service will be held Monday, June 26th at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Pat Ritchie officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port Aux Basques.
