WHITE, Frederick Norman
Age 89
Port aux Basques

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Fredrick White announce his passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 in his 89th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife, Susan of sixty-seven years; sons, Theodore (Edith), Kenneth (Elaine), William (Suzanne) and Curtis; daughters, Lillian White, Doris (William) Cooper, Raylene (Gerald) Cheriton, Dayle (Claudia) Melchiorre; daughter-in-law, Marguerite; grandchildren, Robert, Dayle Ann, Michelle, Reginald, Lisa, James, Tena, William Jr., Corey Kendra, Yolanda, Brandy, Mitchel, Andrew, Daniel, Marco, Ryan and Alicia; 19 great-grandchildren; step-sisters, Louise (Roy) Cooper and Edith Boudreau as well as a circle of relatives and friends. He is predeceased by sons, Garland and Darcy; parents, Edward and Margaret (nee Chafe); brothers, Llewellyn and Theodore; step-brothers, Gordon and William; step-sisters, Doris and Tena. Visitation took place from Fillatre's Funeral Home Wednesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 8, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services was held on Friday, July 9, at 1 p.m. from the Faith Pentecostal Tabernacle with Pastor Reg. Skinner officiating. Interment followed at the Pentecostal cemetery, Port aux Basques. The family guest book may be signed through our website: www.fillatre.ca

SAVORY, James P.
1936 - 2004

It is with great sadness that the family of the late James Savory announce his sudden passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center on Friday, July 9, 2004 at the age of 67 years. Born at Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late Thomas and Julia Savory. Jim was an avid hunter, fisherman, community volunteer, and most of all he loved a game of cards. He leaves to mourn with fond memories, his loving wife, Grace, of 42 years marriage; children, Darlene (Howard) Anderson, Joanne (David) Spencer, Paulette (Randy) Duhart, all of Port aux Basques NL, Edith (Murray) Strickland, of Halifax NS, Todd (Heather) Savory, of Oshawa Ont.; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Scott, Meredith, Ashley, Nikita, Mark and Dylan; sisters, Hannah Ford, of Port aux Basques, Edith Gardner of Montreal, Audrey Hinks of Toronto, a large circle of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many, many close friends. Visitation took place on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2003 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Grand Bay, officiated by Rev. Evelyn Smith. Interment followed at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Trans-Canada Highway. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

HENNICK (Lillington), Martha Elizabeth

It is with deep regret that the family of the late Martha Elizabeth (Lillington) Hennick announce her passing at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, ON on Saturday, July 17, 2004, at the age of 84. She is survived by her children: Joe (Helga), London, ON; Joan (Alex) McKinnon, Hamilton, ON; Tom (Barb), Kitchener, ON; Darlene (Max) Carter, Kitchener, ON; Brenda Pittman, Kitchener, ON; and Randy (Wendy), Kitchener, ON; daughter-in-law Wendy Hennick; brother Israel Lillington, Port aux Basques, NL; sister Dolly (Albert) Stansbury, Brantford, ON; 35 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Joseph Rudolph Hennick, Sydney, NS; infant daughter Debbie; son Stuart; brothers: Emmanual, Herbert, Norman, Philip, Gordon and Raymond; and sisters: Minnie Ingram and Ivy Lomond. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Sydney, NS at a later date.

MORRIS, Alma Ruth
(1930-2004)

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Saturday, July 17, 2004, Alma Ruth Morris of Port aux Basques at the age of 74 years. Born at Lock's Cove, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Olive Durnford. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1976 and brother Wilson Durnford. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children: Frank, Freeman (Lavina), Mary (Tom) Dawe of Port aux Basques; Riley of St. John's, NL and Doris (John) Spencer of Burgeo, NL; eight grandchildren: Vanessa, Wade, Christopher, Melissa, Jamie, Tracey, Stephen, and Terri-Lynn; five great-grandchildren: Sarah, Tristan, Kyle, Jada, and Nicholas, brother Hartley Durnford of McCallum, NL; sisters: Maude Cutler of Ramea, NL, and Queen Durnford of McCallum NL, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation took place on Saturday from 7-9 p.m., Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. on Monday July 17, 2004 at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Grand Bay, officiated by Rev. Evelyn Smith. Interment followed at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

PARK, William Michael (Bill)
St. Andrew's, NL
October 23, 1932 - July 18, 2004

It is with great sadness that the family of the late William Park announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 18, 2004 at the age of 71 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends. Leaving to mourn are his sister Florance Hektor, Toronto, ON; brother-in-law Leo Foley, Stephenville Crossing; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He ws predeceased by his parents John and Agnes Park; sisters: Margaret MacDonald (Michael), Dorothy Keough (Henry), Elizabeth Rochek (Tony) and Mary Foley; stepbrother Jim Young (Helen); brother-in-law Peter Hektor; and nephew John MacDonald. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Wednesday, July 21 at 1:30 p.m. from where the Memorial Service took place at 2 p.m. followed by interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery and officiated by Fr. Bernard Buckle. As expressions of sympathy memorial donations may be made to The Lung Association of NL or The Kidney Foundation of NL. KNEE, Norman Ross
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre on Monday, July 19, 2004, Norman Ross Knee of Rose Blanche, age 55 years. Left with fond and precious memories is his wife Jessie, Toronto, ON, and his children: Ruthann (Paul) DaSilva, Innisfil, ON and Carl Ross Knee, Rose Blanche. Grandchildren Erica and Brandon, Innisfil, ON; father, Alex Knee Sr., Port aux Basques; brothers Montford and family, Corner Brook and Alex (Theresa), Rose Blanche; sister Ann (Albert) Cousins, Port aux Basques, as well as nieces, nephews, friends and the Baker family in Toronto, ON. He was predeceased by his mother Betty Knee (Dec. 19, 1981) and nephew Sheldon Knee (Aug. 19, 1981). Visitation took place from St. Michael's Anglican Church in Rose Blanche from where the funeral service was held on Thursday, July 22, 2004, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Clayton Billard officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Haven Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques.

GREEN, Aveline
Isle aux Morts
Oct. 1, 1921 - July 20, 2004

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday Morning, July 20, 2004, at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre after a brief illness, Aveline Green age 82 years. Born in Isle aux Morts on Oct. 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Louise Harvey. Left to mourn are daughters: Shirley (Ben) Avlenback, Sydney, NS; Hilda (Neil) Hutchings, Deer Lake; Vera (Wilfred) Seymour, Isle aux Morts; Linda (Fred) Secor, Virgina, USA; sons: Wilson, Isle aux Morts and Larry, Vancouver. Also left to mourn are 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her sisters: Carrie (Matthew) Ball and Emma (Hedley) Windsor of Isle aux Morts. She was predeceased by her husband Freeman, daughter Melida, son Bradley, grandson Larry, great-grandson Devin and sisters: Freda, Linda, Hilda, as well as by brother Vincent. Visitation took place from Holy Spirit Anglican Church in Isle aux Morts from where the funeral service took place on Friday, July 23, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Hubert Vallis officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques.

JANES, Frederick
1927 - 2004

The family of Fred Janes is saddened to announce his passing on July 26, 2004 at Charles LeGrow Health Center, Port aux Basques at the age of 77 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 45 years Lorraine (Dalton); sons, Ted (Juanita), Don, Randy (Brenda), Chris (Lisa) in Codroy and Doug in London, ON; daughters, Gloria (Ash) in Stephenville and Barb (George) Fiander in Bedford, NS; and step-son, George Dalton. Loving Poppy Fred to Bonnie (Ray), Wanda (Darren), Madonna (Mike), Curtis, Candace, Niles, Natasha, Vickie (Jason), Megan (Will) and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Emma and Nathan. Special little friend, Nikki. His sister, Clara Samms in Stephenville and brothers, Clem and Ralph (Ruth) in Codroy; sister-in-law, Marion (Gerald) Knott of Codroy and a wide circle of friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Darcey and Maria (Parsons) Janes; infant daughter, Lorina; sister, Alice Moore; brothers, George, Arthur, Walter, Johnny; step-sisters, Annie Reid, Winnie Gale and step-brother, Jimmy Janes. Fred was employed as Superintendent of Western Construction for 43 years until his retirement in 1992. He was well known wherever he went and he will be missed. Visitation was held at Holy Trinity Church in Codroy where funeral services were held Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. E. Smith, burial followed in church cemetery. As expression of sympathy, donations to the Palliative Care Unit at Charles LeGrow Health Centre or your charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.

OSMOND, John Robert
Passed away peacefully at the Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, Mr. John R. Osmond of Mouse Island, Port aux Basques in his 87 year. John as known by his friends, was a World War Veteran in the 166th Royal Artillery, 59th Newfoundland Regiment. John was also an employee of the Canadian National Railway at Port aux Basques for 35 years. Predeceased by his parents, William and Percilla (Bateman); brothers, William, Charles, George and Howard; sisters, Mary and Elsie. Left with fond and loving memories is his wife, Catherine Osmond (nee Ford) of 65 years; his daughters, Louise (Winston) Hulan of Port aux Basques, Patricia Janes of Toronto, ON, and son, Sheldon (Mildred) Riverview, New Brunswick; sisters, Hilda McNeil, Elizabeth Francis, Gladys Sheaves; sisters-in-law, Florence Osmond and Violet McNeil all of Port aux Basques; brothers-in-law, Robert Fields, Boston, Mass and Junior Ford, Port aux Basques. Grandchildren, Dean (Wanda-Lee) Port aux Basques, Jason (Amanda) Carbonear, Les Llona (Eddy), Jolene (Darren) of Ontario, and nine great-grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fillatre's Funeral Home Port aux Basques. The funeral service took place Friday, July 30 at 2 p.m. from St. James' Anglican church with interment to follow at Barachois Hill Cemetery, Port aux Basques. In his memory flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques.

MATTHEWS, Minnie Beatrice
Born on the Island of Newfoundland in Port aux Basques, made her final journey home in her 88th year, on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at West Park Health Centre, St. Catharine's, Ont. Beloved wife of the late James Matthews (June 30, 2000). Minnie was the beloved mother of Lorraine Young (Claude), James Matthews (Bernice) and Allan Matthews. Survived by her sisters, Eileen Skeard of Newfoundland and Shirley Brace of New Brunswick. Beloved grandmother of Karen Gill (Steve), Claudette Helmkay (Roger), James Matthews (Jenny) and Julie Matthews. Nanny loved her great-grandkids, Robert, Dustin, Rebecca, Quinn, Chloe, Michelle, Olivia, Halley and Jamie. Predeceased by sons, Ivan, Clifford, Gerald and Roy; sister, Jessie and brother, Gerald. The family received friends at the Hulse and English Funeral Home and Chapel, 75 Church Street, St. Catharine's, Ont., 905-684-6346, on Friday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in the chapel on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 10 a.m. Private family interment followed in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. - 92 Halifax, passed away July 31, 2004, in Northwood Centre, Halifax. Born in Channel-Port aux Basques, NL, she was a daughter of the late James and Sarah (Battiste) LeRiche. Lizzie was a member of Chi Rho Fellowship for over 35 years, ACW, the Altar Guild for St. James’ Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, NL, St. Marks / St. Margaret of Scotland, Halifax and the True Blue Lodge. She taught school in Grand Bay, NL. She is survived by daughters, Regis Elizabeth (Ron) Snow, Halifax, Donna, Bedford; sons, David (Vena), New Glasgow, Raymond (Judy) Lower Sackville; sisters, Regius Battiste, Maggie Ford, both of Port aux Basques, NL; brother, Ben (Kay), Port aux Basques; sister-in-law, Georgina; grandchildren, Lynne (Kevin), Steven, Michael (Stacey) and Janice (Tony); seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Leonard; brother, Raymond; and sister, Muriel Parsons. Visitation was held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, 3460 Dutch Village Rd., Halifax. Funeral service was held 11 a.m., Tuesday August 3, at the St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, Halifax, Rev. Randy Townsend officiating assisted by Rev. Diane Parker. Burial was in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax. Donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, Halifax or St. John’s Anglican Church Fairview.
