CAFFIERS, Louisa Pearl
(January 28, 1936 - January 11, 2014)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Louisa Pearl Caffiers (nee Gillam) announces her peaceful passing on Saturday Janaury 11 at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center at the age of 77 years. Born at Port aux Basques, Louisa was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Mary Gillam. She was also predeceased by her sisters; Geraldine Gillam, Lillian Wells, Ruth Higdon, Emma Martin. Brothers; Matthew Gillam, John Cecil Gillam, George Gillam. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories her only daughter Mary (Paddy) Parsons Edmonton Alberta, grandson Richard Parsons (Bailey Brooke Dawson) Edmonton Alberta, great granddaughter Rylee Jayne Michelle Parsons, sister in laws; Dulcie Gillam, Gertrude Gillam both of Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends. In keeping with Louisas' wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral services took place on Thursday January 16, 2:00 PM at St.James Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Canon Hannah Dicks, interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louisa's memory can be made to the charity of one's choice. Rose Blanche, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Martin Collier announce his passing on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014. Martin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a kind and patient man with a love for the open waters. He is predeceased by both his parents and ten brothers and sisters. He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years Lydia, son Gus (Sherry), daughter Nancy, grandchildren Scott (Angela), Sheldon (Kristy Lee), Laura (Jean-Pierre), Morgan; great grandchildren: Libby and Joceline; sisters Ruth and Lilian; brother Russell (Vivian); brother-in-law George (Effie), sister-in-law Dulcie; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of his life took place on Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Micheal's Anglican Church in Rose Blanche with interment at Hillside Haven cemetery. DOWNEY, Valerie Hilda
(May 16, 1949 - January 25, 2014)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Valerie Downey (nee Kendell) announce her peaceful passing on Saturday January 25, at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center at the age of 64 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Valerie was predeceased by her father George Robert Kendell in 1983 and her mother Hilda Kendell (nee Fiander) in 2011. She leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories her devoted husband of 44 years, Eugene. A loving mother and grandmother, Valerie will also be sadly missed by her sons; Shawn Downey (Patsy Brownrigg) Woodville, Keith Downey (Shirley) Kingston ON, Ross Downey (Shawna Ryan) Cranbrook BC. Grandchildren; Julia, Rudey, Megan, Tyler, Kendell, Kiera and honorary granddaughter Bobbi. Valerie will remain forever in the hearts of her sisters and brothers; Mildred Carpenter (Edgar Harris) Port Colborne ON, Audrey Coupland (Keith) Ottawa ON, Karen Samms, Joan Gatt (Larry), Clayton Kendell (Eleanor), Ken Kendell (Sandra) all of Port Colborne ON and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. In keeping with Valerie's wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Codroy on Thursday January 30 from 7-9 PM. A celebration of Valerie's life will take place on Friday January 31, 2 PM at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Steven Maki. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery. Flowers or donations to a charity of one's choice will be graciously accepted. FORSEY, Vera
1927-2014

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Vera Forsey announce her passing at Western Memorial Hospital, Corner Brook on January 7, 2014 at the age of 86 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children: Lionel (Ruth) Forsey, Port aux Basques, Ruth (David) Wessell, Woodville, ON, Marilyn (Carl) Kippenhuck, Charlottetown, NL, special niece, Sylvia Crummey, St. John's, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters: Sybina Meade, Richmond Hill, ON, and Lena Billard, Port aux Basques along with many other relatives and friends. She is pre-deceased by her husband, John Forsey (2002), brothers: Joseph, Norman and James, sisters: Gladys, Mary, Bessie Osmond, Lillian MacPherson, and Dorothy Figary. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Port aux Basques, on Wednesday, from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday and Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service took place from Wesley United Church on Sunday, January 12 with interment following at the church cemetery. MacDONALD, Annie Melinda
(March 9, 1922 - January 8, 2014)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Annie MacDonald announces her peaceful passing on Wednesday January 8 at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center at the age of 91 years. Born in Port aux Basques, Annie was the daughter of the late Henry and Priscilla Allen. Annie was also predeceased by her life long partner John (Jack) MacDonald in May of 2010, her son Steven (Lorraine), granddaughter Sherry - Lee, grandson Christopher, 4 brothers and 1 sister. She leaves to mourn with many fond and loving memories her daughters; Geraldine (Alex) Osmond, Kathleen (Gerald) Anderson all of Port aux Basques. Grandchildren; Terry (Paula) MacDonald, Tony (Margie) Anderson, Todd (Denise) Anderson, Carl (Jane) Osmond all of Port aux Basques, Craig (Christine) Osmond Cupids NL, Joy (Derek) Hibbs Ontario, Dion Osmond Alberta. Annie will also be sadly missed by her 12 great grandchildren, 9 great, great grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews, many friends, and her extended family at Mountain Hope Manor. Visitation took place on Thurdsay from 7-9 PM, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Abner David Riles announces his passing at the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre with his family at his side on January 7th, 2014 at the age of 71 years. Abner was the son of the late Charles and Annie Riles. He was predeceased by his wife Frances (Brown) Riles, brother John Riles and sister Rubina Riles. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories long-time companion Shirley Hardy; sisters Nora Spicer (Max), Rose Blanche and Rosie Keeping (Roy), Burnt Islands. He was loved as a father by Geraldine Hardy (Ronnie) and Elaine Vautier (Jerry) both of Diamond Cove. He was loved as a grandfather by Veronica Baggs (Lyle), Tammy Hefford (Jason), Walterine Lukeman (Mike), Jessica Vautier (Deon) and great grandson Jake Lukeman; also loved by sister-in-law Jean Fiander (Joe) , brother-in-law Arthur Brown (Julie), sister-in-law Ethel Brown and a large circle of nieces and nephews. Visitation was held at this family residence in Diamond Cove. Funeral service took place at St. Michaels and All Angels Church in Rose Blanche on January 11th, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. , Reverend Colbourne officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery. STANSBURY, Dorothy
March 19, 1928 - Jan. 28, 2014
Surrounded by the love of her family, Dorothy passed away peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 in her 86th year. Beloved wife of the late Albert (2005); Cherished mother of Marlene Zandvliet (Robert), Allan (Cathy), Susan Lipinski (Maurice), David (Debbie), Wayne, Christine Barkley (Scott) and Ronald; loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews here and in her proud native home of Newfoundland, extended family and friends; predeceased by several sisters and brothers. The family will receive friends at McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME , 495 Park Road N., on Tuesday February 4th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of her life will follow in the Hospitality Suite. Interment will then take place at Grand River United Church Cemetery. If wished, memorial donations to the charity of your choice gratefully appreciated. THOMAS, Chesley Gordon
(August 3, 1936 - January 25, 2014)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gordon Thomas announces his peaceful passing on Saturday January 25 at his residence in Upper Ferry at the age of 77 years. Born at St. Paul's River, Quebec Gordon was the son of the late Chesley and Marjorie Thomas. He was also predeceased by his infant daughter Karen, brother Nelson, and stepmother Evelyn Thomas. He leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories his devoted wife Joyce Thomas of 54 years. Gordon will also be sadly missed by his children Murray (Christine) Thomas Upper Ferry, Joanne (Ronnie) Battiste Port aux Basques. A proud Poppy, Gordon will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren Kelsie and Nicholas. Also left with many memories of a wonderful brother are Gordon's sisters; Gloria (Murdock) Nadeau, Judy (Jerry), Fequet all of St. Paul's River QC, brothers; Bob (Joan) Thomas St. Paul's River QC, George (Hampden) Thomas Clarenville NL, stepbrothers; Brian (Sharon) Thomas, Ross (Brenda) Thomas all of Sherbrooke QC, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends. In Keeping with Gordons' wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of Gordons' life will take place on Thursday January 30, 11 AM at East Haven Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Steven Maki, followed by a reception for all of Gordons' family and friends. Interment will take place this summer at St. Pauls's River QC.
