August 8, 1927 - January 2, 2008
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph
Anderson announces his passing on Tuesday, January
2, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Born in Codroy, he was
the son of the late John and Margaret Anderson. He is also predeceased
by his wife, Doreen; four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his children,
Margaret-Rose (Jerry) White of Kingston, Rose (Richard) Smith
of Mississauga, Mike (Hilda) Anderson of Scarborough, Henry (Dianne)
Anderson of Scarborough, Gregory (Mondella) Anderson of Scarborough,
Yvonne (Jim) Rowlands of Zephyr, Francis (Nancy) Anderson of
Bradford, Catherine (Daniel) Paul of New Market and Fred (Ann)
Anderson of Ajax; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren;
sisters-in-law, Alma Gale, Stella Waters, Barbara (Ben) White,
Alice (Keith) Simon, Lucine Anderson and Genny Gale; brothers-in-law,
Hubert (Kay) Gale, Michael (Nancy) Gale and Alec (Barb) Gale;
as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Visitation took place Thursday, January 3rd at St.
Anne's Church, Upper Ferry. Funeral services took place on Friday,
January 4, 2 p.m. at St. Anne's Church, Upper Ferry. Officiated
by Father Lee Lainey. Interment followed at Mount St. Thomas
Cemetery, Great Codroy. Funeral arrangements were in the care

TEMPLE, LUCY LORETTA (nee OSMOND)
Passed away at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Orillia,
ON on Thursday, January 3, 2008, at the age
of 79 years, Lucy Temple of Orillia, ON, formerly
of Port aux Basques, NL and Dartmouth, NS. Devoted and loving
wife of Lorne Temple. Loving mother and best friend of Lorne
(Heather Stewart) of Truro, NS, Cathy Wilson of Brampton, ON,
Brian of Dartmouth, NS, Cheryl (Frank Falomo) Attridge and
Karen Temple both of Toronto, ON, Barbara (George) Ferenc and
Dianne Temple both of Etobicoke, ON. Also loved by her grandchildren,
Audrey, Lisa, Eddie, Jeffrey, Gage, Nicole and great-grandson
Kaden. Dear daughter-in-law of Sylvia Compton of Brampton,
ON. Beloved sister of Julie, Nelson, Rose and Vivian of Port
aux Basques, NL. Predeceased by siblings George and Hazel.
Survived by her many nieces and nephews and their families.
A funeral service was held on Monday, January 7, 2008. Interment
took place at the Glendale Memorial Gardens Rexdale, ON. If

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edna
Mildred Maclsaac announces her passing on Thursday,
January 3, 2008 at the age of 72 years. Born in Greenspond
she was the daughter of the late James and Gertrude Way. Edna
is also predeceased by her brother, Edgar; sister-in-law, Helen
Maclsaac; brothers-in-law, Archie Gerald, Raymond, Angus and
Fred Maclsaac. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories
her family: husband, James Maclsaac; daughter, Nicole (Gerry)
Lewis; son, Curtis Maclsaac all of St. Andrews; grandchildren,
Kyle Battiste, Ethan Lewis, Evan Lewis and Kayleigh Maclsaac;
brother, Fred (Audrey) Way of St. John's; sisters, Viola (Guy)
Annabel of St. John's and Louise (Stewart) Kettle of Port aux
Basques; brother-in-law, Pat (Pauline) Maclsaac of St. Andrews;
sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Leonard) Doyle of St. Andrews, Bonnie

Edna also leaves to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews and
friends. Following cremation, the memorial service, officiated
by Father Lee Lainey, took place on Monday, January 7, 2008,
10:30 a.m. in the Church of the most Precious Blood, St. Andrews.
Interment of ashes will follow at a later date. Funeral arrangements

SKEARD, CARMELLA
January 4, 1922 - January 4, 2008
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Carmella
Skeard announces her passing on January 4, 2008 at
the age of 86 years. Born in Curling, she was the daughter of
the late William and Elizabeth Anne Lynch, and was also predeceased
by her husband, Ivan; daughter, Patricia; nine sisters and three
brothers. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories
her family: sons, Ivan "Chap" (Sylvia) Skeard
of Millville and Glen (Joyce) Skeard of Mosher River, NS; daughters,
Noreen (Jerry) Osika of Theodore, Sask. and Debbie (Max) Piercy
of Cape Ray; grandchildren, Lorna Martin, Cathy Moore, Michelle
Deveau, Wendy Pickrem, Sandra Piercy, Todd Piercy, Beth-Ann Hayter,
Michael Meade, Debbie Mercer, Dwayne Marsden, Dennis Hillier,
Deneen Hillier, Amanda Skeard and Adam Skeard; 18 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Reg Mitchell
of Curling and sister-in-law, Marie Lynch of Camrose, Alta. She
will also be greatly missed by long-term caregivers Ida Lawrence,
Michelle Sheaves and staff at the Mountain Hope Manor in Port
aux Basques, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews .and
many, many friends. Visitation took place on Sunday, Jan. 6,
2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home in Port aux Basques
and also on Monday, Jan. 7 beginning 1 p.m. at The Church of
the Precious Blood in St. Andrews. Funeral services took place
on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Precious
Blood in St. Andrews, officiated by Father Lee Lainey. Interment
of ashes will follow at a later date. Funeral arrangements were

Passed away at the LeGrow Health Centre on Jan. 12, 2008,
Eva Cavell Anderson, at the age 83 years. She was predeceased
by her parents, James and Mary MacDonald; sisters, Maude and
Blanche of Bay d'Espoir; and great-grandchild, Richard. Leaving
to mourn her husband, Thomas; sons, James (Susan), NS, Ralph
(Mary) and Harold (Barbara); daughters, Lorraine (Doug), Margaret

Philip; sisters, Rose, Grace and Gladys, all of Bay d'Espoir;

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Calvin
Bernard Chant announces his passing at Dr. Charles L.
LeGrow Health Center on Friday, January 18, 2008 at
the age of 72 years. Born at Ireland’s Island, NL, he was
the son of the late Henry and Lillian Chant (nee Purchase). He
was also predeceased by his father-in-law, Percy Organ; brothers,

Hann and Charlotte Chant; brothers-in-law, Sandy Organ, George

Port aux Basques, NL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jerry
Strickland, age 49, announces his passing on Saturday,
January 19, 2008 at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre
after a brief illness with cancer. Born in Port aux Basques,
NL, he was the son of the late Cecil and Sarah (nee Holmans)
Strickland. He was employed with Fisheries Products International
for approximately 27 years. He is survived by his children: April
O’Quinn, Calgary, AB, Brett, Karlie and Brea Strickland,
Lansdowne, Ont.; his ex-wife, Marianne Strickland; brothers,
Arthur (Ella), Isle aux Morts, Robert (Donna), Bridgewater, NS,
Rex (Tammy), Port aux Basques, Scott (Karen), Lower Sackville,
NS, Mike (Darnise), Kingston, NS; sisters Frances Hibbs (Richard
Samms), Burlington, Ont., Barbara (George Phelan), Annapolis
Valley, NS, Dorcas (Wendell Geddes), Dartmouth, NS, Elsie (Benjamin
Wells), Isle aux Morts; sisters-in-law, Jean Strickland, Blue

and Monday. The Funeral Service took place on Tuesday, January
22 at 2 p.m. from St. James’ Anglican Church with interment
following at the Anglican Cemetery. Reverend Fudge officiated.

WILLARD MEADE
August 27,1920-January 26, 2008
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Willard
Meade, age 87, announce his passing on Jan.
26, 2008, at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre after
a brief illness with cancer. Born in Fox Roost, N.L., he was
the son of the late Ernest and Harriet Meade. He was employed
as a fisherman for over 50 years. He was predeceased by his brothers:
Wallace, George, Clarence, Norman and Augustus and his sister
Mary Jane Walters. He is sur-vived by Dorothy, his wife of over
60 years; children, sons Kenneth (Liz) Meade, Claude (Ellen Farrell)
Meade of Fox Roost, Jason (Mary) Meade; daughter Olivia Seymour
(Randall Cayea), Halifax, NS. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren:
Kenny, Vanessa, Conrad, Melica, Travis, Ryan, Randy and Chandler;
three great -grandchildren: Matthew, Meghan and Mackenzie; sister,
Lorna Buffet and brother, Eric Meade, along with a long line
of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He will be sadly
missed. The funeral service was held on Monday, Jan. 28 beginning
2 p.m. at St. Augustine's Anglican Church, officiated by Reverend
Duncan Granter. Interment followed at St. Augustine's Anglican
Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations maybe made to
the Cancer Society to the charity of one's choice.
