BILLARD, George Mills
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on Friday, January 2, 2004, George Mills Billard of St. John's originally of Port aux Basques, at age 71 years. Leaving to mourn are his loving wife of 46 years, Myra (nee Cook) of St. John's; daughter, Lynette (Joe) Kowalchuk of Denare Beach, Saskatchewan; sons, David (Josephine) Billard of St. John's and Darryl (Helen) Billard of Winnipeg, Man.; grandchildren, Rebecca Pike (Mike Stratychuk) of Winnipeg, Man., Stephen and Adam Billard of St. John's; great-grandchild, Ashlea Stratychuk of Winnipeg, Man.; brothers, Ralph (Kay) Billard of St. John's, Clayton (Violet) Billard of Rose Blanche, Robert (Leona) Billard of Oakville, Ont. and Roy (Rosemary) Billard of Sidney, BC; sisters, Phyllis (Edgar) Richards of Corner Brook, Joan (Ron) Lee of St. John's, Ruth (Fred) Jarmen of Cambridge, Ont. and Vivian Fleming of Halifax, NS; sisters-in-law, Sandra (David) Butler of Guelph, Ont., Glenda (Jim) Strong of Ottawa, Ont. and Paula (Bert) Powell of Barrie, Ont., also a large number of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by grandchild, Usha-Lyn Pike of Corner Brook; sister, Margaret Sexsmith of Peterborough, Ont.; and parents, Fred and Gladys Billard of Port aux Basques. Funeral arrangements was in the care of Barretts Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. St. John's. The funeral service was held at St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. John's on Monday, January 5, 2004 on 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be most appreciated. Visitation hours at Barretts Funeral Home were 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday January 3 and 4, 2003. WHITE, Gerald Anthony
1922 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre on Monday, January 11, 2004, Gerald Anthony White of Doyles, at the age of 82 years. He was the son of the late Margaret and Daniel (Leblanc) White. He leaves to mourn his sister, Marie Stewart of Connecticut, USA; brothers, Mike (Rose) of Doyles, Fredie (Marie) of Cape Breton, NS, and a circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Jean, Rita; brothers, Joseph, Stanley, and Hughie. Cremation took place on Monday, January 11, 2004. A memorial service took place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at St. Anne's Church, Upper Ferry, officiated by Father L. Lainey. Interment to be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

KETTLE, Charles Emanuel
1925 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre on January 13, 2004, Charles Emanuel Kettle of Port aux Basques, at the age of 78 years. He was the son of the late Isabella and Emanuel Kettle. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva in 2001; brothers, Ben, Ralph, Russell; and sister, Violet. He leaves to mourn his daughter, Florence (Frank) Walsh of Happy Valley-Goose Bay; son, Chesley (Nora) of Port aux Basques; granddaughter, Angela of Port aux Basques; grandson, Terry of Port aux Basques; sister, Elizabeth McNeil of Port aux Basques; sisters-in-law, Hilda Kettle, Frances (Gord) Kettle, Christine Lomond, Julia Kempton, all of Port aux Basques, Rachael Hollett of Annapolis Valley, NS; brother-in-law, Doug (Sheila) Lomond of Port aux Basques, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Visitation took place on Tuesday at 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. Funeral Services took place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2004 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Grand Bay, officiated by Rev. Evelyn Smith. Interment followed at St. Paul's Cemetery, TCH. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

KETTLE, John (Jack) C.
1914 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Saturday, January 17, 2004 John (Jack) Charles Kettle of Grand Bay at the age of 89 years. Born at Grand Bay, he was the son of the late Agnes and George Kettle. John worked as a fisherman for most of his life. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Jane of 40 years marriage; daughter, Joanne; and grandson Tyson all of Grand Bay; sisters: Olive Kettle and Viola Roberts of Grand Bay and Alice Bernister of St. John's; brother, Gordon (Frances) of Grand Bay; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kettle and Hilda Kettle of Grand Bay and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Darryl in Aug. 2002; son-in-law, Roland in June 2002; brothers, Nathan, Wilson and Stanley; sisters, Gladys Kettle and Evangeline Marshall. Visitation took place on Sunday and Monday at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at St. Paul's Church, Grand Bay officiated by Rev. Evelyn Smith. Interment followed at St. Paul's Cemetery TCH Port aux Basques. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

BIRD, Francis Ward
September 12, 1924 - January 28, 2004

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Francis Ward Bird announce his passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL, on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the age of 79 years. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas; mother, Jessie; and step-mother, Minnie Bird; as well as by his brothers: Cecil, Raymond, Thomas and Jim. He will be sadly missed by wife of 52 years, Melina; daughters: Dora (Guy Durnford), Paradise, Mary (Murdock Furey), Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Roberta (Raymond Young), Rose Blanche and Joselyn (George Hardy), Rose Blanche; one son, Jason (Kim), Moncton, NB; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers: Louis Bird, Cape Ray, Cyril Bird, Neil's Harbour, NS, Clayton Bird, Rose Blanche; sisters: Dora Strickland, Port aux Basques and Josie Warren; as well as other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 31, 2004 from St. James' Anglican Church, Channel-Port aux Basques with Rev. Hugh Fudge officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Margaree. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. The family guest book may be signed or a donation may be made through Fillatre's web site www.fillatre.ca
