DOWNEY, Leo H.
(1918 - 2005)

It is with great sadness the family of the late Leo H. Downey, age 86, announce his passing on Tuesday, February 1, 2005. While Leo was very ill, he passed away peacefully at his residence with Vera Stoodley at Edna's Road in Port aux Basques. Born in the Codroy Valley he was the son of the late Michael W. Downey and Margaret (Hynes) Downey. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary MacIsaac Downey; sisters, Rachael Lomond, Edna Garreau and Josephine Kean; and brother, Primo Downey. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his stepchildren, Sherry Courtemanche, Halifax, NS, Lorraine Chaisson, Ann Hynes, James MacIsaac, Codroy Valley and Gerard MacIsaac of Labrador; nine grandchildren, Michael MacIsaac, Sarah Hynes, Robert Chaisson, Peter Chaisson, Codroy Valley, Mark MacIsaac, Pettawawa, ON, Jeremy Courtemanche, Shawn MacIsaac, Christopher Hynes, Halifax NS, Anthony MacIsaac, Addey, Labrador; sisters, Dorathea Downey, St. Thomas ON, Laura Lahey, St. John's NL, Lenny MacNeil of East Bay NS, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation took place on Wednesday evening and Thursday at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Upper Ferry. Funeral Mass took place on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic at 11 a.m., officiated by Father Lee Lainey. Interment followed at Chapel Green Cemetery. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

HARRIS, Ethel
Heatherton, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ethel Harris announce her passing on Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville at the age of 58 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories son, Todd (Linda), Calgary AB; loving companion Brendan Gale, South Branch; brothers, James (Regina), Jeffrey's, Arthur (Violet), Heatherton, Raymond (Jenny), Toronto, ON and Allen, St. George's; sisters, Dorothy Harris (Stephen Ryan), Stephenville, and Mariah (Alphonsus) Young, Heatherton, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She is predeceased by parents, Frederick and Myrtle; and by her sister-in-law, Mildred Harris. Friends visited St. George Anglican Church on Friday, 7-9 p.m., from where the funeral service was held on Saturday, February 5 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Stewart Bellows officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery, Robinsons. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the St. George Anglican Church Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, West Street, Stephenville Crossing. GREEN, Archibald
age 82

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Archibald Green announce his passing at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005 in his 82nd year. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories children, Jack Vardy (Beverly) of Lower Sackville, NS, Sheila (Junior) of Port aux Basques, Gerald Green (Janice) of Port aux Basques, Clayton Green (Diane) of Port aux Basques, Christine Howell (Thomas) of Winnipeg, MB, Robert Green (Alice) of Port aux Basques; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, special friend, Lillian; sister, Melida Evans of North Sydney, NS; brother, Austin Green (Frances) of Burgeo, sisters-in-law, Harriet Green and Lizzie Green of Port aux Basques, Azelma Green (Albert) of Halifax, NS; brother-in-law, Cyril Vardy (Louise) of Port aux Basques, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Annie May (nee Vardy), January 2000; daughter, Brenda; parents, Catherine and George Green; sister, Mabel; brothers, George, Kenneth, Clayton and Martin; mother and father-in-law, John and Maude Vardy. Visitation took place from Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. PARSONS, Evelyn M.
1917 - 2005

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center on Wednesday, February 9, 2005, Evelyn M. Parsons of Port aux Basques, at the age of 87 years. Born in Coomb's Cove, NL, she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Esther Blagdon. Evelyn was predeceased by her first husband, Freeman Skeard in 1947; by her second husband, George S. Parsons in 1980; also by her sons, John Skeard in 1984, and Wally Skeard in 2004; and sister, Florence Drake. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, her children, Enos (Kay) Skeard, Loretta (Winston) Biggins, Lorne (Lena) Skeard, and Kevin (Minnie) Parsons; and daughter-in-law, Elaine Skeard; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchldren; sisters, Elizabeth Bartlett, Grand Bank, NL, Ruth (Clayton) Strowbridge, Grand Bank, NL; brothers, Steve Blagdon, Ned (Alice) Blagdon, Harvey (Ethel) Blagdon; and brother-in-law, Steve Drake, all of Coomb's Cove, Fortune Bay, NL, and a wide circle of family and friends. Visitation took place on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 2 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church in Channel, officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge and Rev. Hubert Vallis. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

READ, Clifford Emery
age 89
Port aux Basques

Passed away peacefully on February 10, 2005 at Mountain Hope Manor, Clifford Emery Read in his 89th year. He leaves to mourn with fond memories Godchild, Alma Francis; cousin, Lillian Billard as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; special friends, Gilbert and Amy Riles, and his dear friends of Mountain Hope Manor. Clifford worked as a carpenter, a job he took great pride in doing. He was the son of the late Alfreda (nee Bond) and Frank Read. He is predeceased by his brother, Percy Read; step-brothers, Sydney and William Riles; and nephew, Calvin Read. Visitation took place form Fillatre's Funeral Home, Friday and Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 13, 2005 from St. James' Anglican Church with Rev. Hugh Fudge officiating. Interment followed at St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. The family guest book may be signed through the website www.fillatre.ca

1932 - 2005

Passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 17, 2005, Leslie Currie of Port aux Basques at the age of 72 years. Born at Caines Island, he was the son of the late James and Doris Elizabeth Currie. He was predeceased by his grandson, William Currie in 2003; mother and father-in-law, Clifford and Rebecca Osmond; sister, Emma Melbourne; brothers-in-law, Clarence Morgan and Ronald Hiscock; sister-in-law, Mardee Osmond. He leaves to mourn with precious memories, his loving wife, Carrie, of 42 years marriage; children, Nancy Currie (Stewart) Port aux Basques, Richard (Gail) Currie Lower Sackville, NS, Michelle Currie (David) Port aux Basques; two grandchildren, Shannon and Emma; sisters, Isabelle (Morgan) Dunford, Rose Blanche, NL, Bessie Morgan, Sudbury, ON, Ethel (Alex) Musseau, Port aux Basques, NL, Minnie (George) Parsons, Rose Blanche, NL, Maria Hiscock, Burgeo, NL; sisters-in-law, Rosie (Albert) White, Port aux Basques NL, Harriet (Morgan) Lillington, Port aux Basques NL, Nina (Bud) Davis, Fort McMurray AB; brothers-in-law, Garnet Osmond, William (Marilyn) Osmond, Dave Osmond, Norman (Donalda) Osmond, Eric Osmond (Margaret), Terry (Barbara) Osmond all of Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services took place on Sunday February 20, 2005 at 2 p.m. at St. James' Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge. Pearl; brother, Albert, Dominion, NS; sister, Louise Ninchuck, Sydney, NS; special cousin, Dorothy Roberts (Earl) Toronto; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vera and Wilfred Wheeler, Audrey Lomond, Rosanna Lomond, all of Port aux Basques, Bill and Sue Potts, USA, Larry and Evelyn Podojil, USA, Frank and Sheila Haywood, Usa, Veronica Lomond, Marystown, Edna Butler, Ontario, as well as a larger circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and special friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Margaret (nee Lomond); parents, John and Viola Zillman; brothers, John and Alfred; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Zillman, Lois Zillman; brothers-in-law, Clyde, Philip, Jordon, Charles Lomond and Tom Ninchuck. Visitation took place from Fillatre's Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Wesley United Church with Rev. ALLEN, Wilfred
Age 67

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wilfred Allen announce his passing on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in his 67th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife, Sybina (nee Osmond) of 45 years; four children: sons, Bryan (Joy), Darren (Vanessa); daughters, Lorna Pope, Tracey Allen (John); seven grandchildren, Jamie (Tanya), Pamela, Samantha (Jamie), Michael, Ryan, Robyn and Chloe; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Gabriel; brother, George (Ethel); sisters, Vera Mauger, Eileen Hardy (Randell) of Nova Scotia, Bernice May (Bill) of Ontario; father-in-law, Cyril Osmond, as well as a large circle of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives; special lifelong friends, Charlie and Diane Wells of Corner Brook, and many wonderful dear cabin buddies at MacDougalls. He is predeceased by his parents, Wilfred (Sr.) and Frances (nee Matthews); brother, Edgar; mother-in-law, Bessie Osmond; son-in-law, Bruce Pope; and brother-in-law, Ira Mauger. Visitation took place on Friday and Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. from St. James’ Anglican Church with Rev. H. Fudge officiating. Cremation followed with interment at a later date.

ANDERSON, Mary Susie (Francis)
Age 53 years

Passed suddenly away at her residence on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, Mary Susie Anderson, age 53 years. She was predeceased by her father, Albert Francis (April 3, 2003); and her brother, Willis Francis (September 29, 1997). Left with fond and precious memories are her husband, Reginald; daughters, Maisie Anderson-Osmond (Terrance), and Glenda Anderson; her grandchildren, Jerome, Jessica and Chasity; her mother, Florence Francis; brothers, Rodney (Minnie) Francis, William (Joanne) Francis, Eric (Louise) Francis; and sisters, Jane (Terry) Fancy, Pauline (Morley) Pardy, Mylita (Bob) Francis; also her sister-in-law, Julie Francis (Darrell), Lois (Chesley) Vautier, and Vida (Wayne) Schwartz; also her brothers-in-law, Aubrey (Sharon) Anderson, Manasseh (Nancy) Anderson, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation took place on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27 at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. The Funeral service was held on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 from Salvation Army Citadel in Port aux Basques with Rev. Patricia Ritchie officiating. Cremation followed. Interment at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.
