MEADE, Augustus John
Aug. 1, 1924 - Feb. 1, 2004

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Augustus John Meade announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Sunday, February 1, 2004, at the age of 79 years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Melvina (Kendall) Meade; brothers, George, Clarence and Norman; his sister, Mary Walters; brothers-in-law, Reg Buffet and Max Walters; and by his sisters-in-law, Laura and Alma Meade. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Marie; daughter, Harriet (Edgar) Reid, Port aux Basques; sons, Larry (Nina), Margaree, Corey (Shevaun), Fox Roost, Lonnie and Glen, Fox Roost and Ricky, St. Catherine's, Ont.; seven grandchildren; brothers, Eric and Willard (Dorothy) Meade; sister, Lorna Buffet; sister-in-law, Hazel Meade as well by the Hatcher family and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 from St. Augustine's Anglican Church in Fox Roost with the Rev. Hubert Vallis officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Margaree. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. The family guest book may be signed or a donation may be made through Fillatre's web site www.fillatre.ca

POPE, Bruce Byron
1958 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Center in St. John's on Monday, February 9, 2004, Bruce Byron Pope at the age of 45 years. Born at Port aux Basques, he was the son of the late Ward Pope who predeceased him in 1990. Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Lorna (Allen) of 25 years marriage; and his children: Jamie (Tanya) of Cambridge Ont. and Pamela of Port aux Basques; one grandson, Blake; mother, Myrtle Pope; brother, Brian and Darren Allen; and sister-in-law, Tracy Allen; special friends, Don and Nancy Rideout of Port aux Basques and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Thursday 10-12 p.m. 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Friday, February 13, 2004 at St. James' Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge. Interment followed at St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, TCH Port aux Basques. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

TORPEY, Marguerite (Peggy)
Mrs. Marguerite (Peggy) Torpey
, age 80, beloved wife of James J. Torpey and a longtime resident of West Haven, died February 11, 2004 in Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford, CT after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Norris and Edith Cousins. She was raised in Port aux Basques, NL, and served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps. Mrs. Torpey was very active with the Milford Historical Society. She was a volunteer expert yarn spinning artisan at local and county fairs throughout CT. She was very active as a flagwoman with the Sports Car Club of America for over 20 years. She raised and bred international champion english bulldogs as a member of the American Kennel Club. She loved cooking, gardening, fishing, and traveled the world as a military wife. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jeanne J. Reed of Somers, CT, Georgeanne E. Wood of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one son, Rodger Torpey of West Haven, CT, and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers. Arrangements were in care of the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street on the Green, Milford, CT. Interment will be private.

FARRELL, Alice Eileen
Age 72

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alice Eileen Farrell announce her passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 in her 72 year. She leaves to mourn her husband, Gerald Farrell; sons, Randy Farrell (Juanita), Ronnie Farrell (Faith), Christopher Farrell (Jennifer); daughters, Ellie Edmunds, Sharon Caines, Carol Rodman; sister, Bonnie Thompson as well as a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her brothers, Walter and Henry Brake; parents, Luke and Margaret Brake. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. from St. James' Anglican Church with Rev. H. Fudge officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. PINK, Evelyn Blanche
1914 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Friday Feb. 27, 2004, Evelyn Blanche Pink of Port aux Basques at the age of 89 years. born at Little Bay West, she was the daughter of the late William and Jessie Rose. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 1976; and son, Chesley in 1998. She leaves to mourn her son, Leslie Rose (Ellen) of Halifax, NS; daughter-in-law, Brenda Pink of Port aux Basques; five grandchildren and six grandchildren (might mean great-grandchildren); sister, Martha Smith of Grand Bank, NL, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Sunday February 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. James' Anglican Church Channel, officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge. Interment followed at St. James' Anglican cemetery, Barachois Hill. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

BROWN, Albert William

Albert William Brown
of Port aux Basques passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Feb. 28, 2004 at the age of 71 years. Born at Rose Blanche, he was the son of the late William and Winnifred Brown. Predeceased by brother, Eric and wife, Blanche of Rose Blanche; brother, Clarence of North Sydney; sister, France Riles of Rose Blanche; and sister-in-law, Joyce of North Sydney. Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Ethel (Parsons) of 50 years marriage; and his children, Bill (Shirley) Brown of Bridgewater, Audrey (Richard) Kennedy of Halifax, NS; grandchildren, Michael and Shannon Brown, James and Corey Fenner; brothers, Tom (Carol) Brown, North Sydney, Arthur (Judy) Brown, Rose Blanche; sister, Jean (Joe) Fiander North Sydney; brother-in-law, Abner Riles of Rose Blanche and a large circle of nephews, nieces and friends. Visitation took place on Sunday at 7-9 p.m. and on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral service took place on Tuesday March 2, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the St. James' Anglican Church Channel officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery Isle aux Morts Road. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques 695-2300.

GLAVINE, Mitchell A.
(Formerly of Codroy Valley)

Passed away on February 29, 2004, Mitchell Albert Glavine in his 28th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving spouse, Vanessa MacArthur and their 15-month-old son, Liam Edward Lewis Glavine; mother and father Joan (nee Osmond) and Patrick Glavine, Codroy Valley, NL; sister, Carla Glavine, Calgary, AB; brothers, Dave (Gwen) Glavine, Calgary, Lance (Heather) Glavine, Calgary and P.J. Glavine, Codroy Valley; niece, Kylee Glavine; nephew, Tyler Glavine; grandfather, Cecil Osmond; parents-in-law, Hugh and Mary MacArthur; sister-in-law, Jessica MacArthur; brother-in-law, Ronnie MacArthur as well as a large circle of relatives, co-workers and many, many special friends. Mitchell was predeceased by his grandmother, Lucy Osmond; and grandparents, Helen and Edward Glavine. Visitation took place on Tuesday evening March 2 and Wednesday, March 3, from St. Ann's Parish Upper Ferry where funeral service was held on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. with Father Lee Lainey and Father Maurice O'Quinn officiating. Interment followed at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Codroy.
