STRICKLAND, Julia M.
Port aux Basques
Age 103

Passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, Julia M. Strickland in her 103rd year. With fond and precious memories her nephews, nieces, relatives and many, many dear friends mourn her loss and remember the wonderful lady she was who gave so much to others. Julia was predeceased by husband, William in 1981; parents, James and Elizabeth (nee Munden) MacDonald; six sisters and three brothers. Julia was the last survivor of her immediate fammily. Visitation took place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Thursday, Aug. 12 from St. James’ Anglican Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. Vallis officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery. Donations may be made to Hillside Haven Cemetery Fund. The guest book may be signed through our website, www.fillatre.ca

SIBLEY, Beatrice Mary (nee Cutler)
Passed away August 13, 2004 at Calder Health Centre Burgeo, Mrs. Beatrice Sibley was in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband, John and daughter, Shirley; brothers, Jack, Wallace and Victor. Left to mourn are children, Jack (Bessie), Jesse (Minnie) of Ramea, NL, Ann (Doug) of Burnaby, BC, Marjorie (George) Hatcher of Isle aux Morts, NL; sisters, Lucy (Wilfred) Hatcher of Halifax, NS, Annie (John) Lion Kamloops, BC; sisters-in-law, Maude of Ajax, ON, Lillian of Halifax, NS, Selina of Stephenville, NL; brother, Ivan (Glynis) of Sudbury, ON. As well 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Resting at St. Boniface Church, Ramea. The funeral service took place Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 2 p.m.

WARREN, Leslie D.
1936 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004 Leslie Dorman Warren of Fox Roost at the age of 67 years. Born at Fox Roost he was the son of the late Gertrude and Dorman Warren, also predeceased by his wife, Jane (Blagdon) on December 21, 2000. Leaving to mourn his loving children; daughters, Gertie (Richard Prosser) of Port aux Basques, Jackie (Bruce DeRochie), and son, Colin all of Fort Saskatchewan; grandchildren, John, Leah, Jenna and Amy. Brothers, John (Marie) Warren of Margaree, Gordon Warren of Port aux Basques; sister-in-law, Harriet of Fox Roost; brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Susan) Blagdon of Halifax and Thomas (Marie) Blagdon of Boxy, NL and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Monday evening and Tuesday at St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Margaree. Funeral services took place on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Augustine's Church officiated by Rev. Hubert Vallis. Interment followed at St. Augustine's Anglican Cemetery, Margaree. Funeral arrangement in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

QUINLAN, Donald William
(World War II Veteran: RAF 1940-1945, Fighter Pilot and Warrant Officer)

Peacefully, at the Kingston General Hospital, on Tuesday, August 17, 2004, in his 85th year, Donald Quinlan of Kingston (formerly of Brampton, Ont., Ottawa and Grand Falls, Nfld.) Retired Civil Engineer with the Federal Department of Public Works (33 years). Beloved husband for 53 years of the late Bernice Quinlan (nee Gale), who died on April 24, 2004. Loving and devoted father of Joan Biddulph (Fred) of Saskatoon, Sask., Katherine (Larry Keech) of Moscow, Ont., John (Kathy Muldoon) of Oakville, Ont. and Donald Jr. (Marnie Janoschak) of Mississauga, Ont. Sadly missed by his grandchildren: Brendan, Shauna, Michelle and Karen Biddulph, Ryan and Elizabeth Quinlan-Keech, and Kelly and Kevin Quinlan. Cherished brother of Patricia Hawkins (Wes) of Kentville, NS. Fondly remembered by his nieces: Dr. Kathleen Landymore-Covert of Halifax and Patricia Jones (Ken) of Toronto. Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Catherine Quinlan (nee McKeagan), and by his brother, Dr. John Quinlan (Dr. Helen Holden) and Edmund Quinlan (Helen Downie), and his sister, Eileen Quinlan. Friends were received at the Township Chapel of Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes, 435 Davis Drive, Kingston, on Tuesday, August 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, Palace Road, Kingston, on Wednesday, August 25, at 11:30 a.m. Rite of Committal at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Centreville, Ont. Donations in Don's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, his favourite charity since he was stationed in England during the war. In the care of Gordon F. 1939 - 2004

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Centre on Saturday, August 21, 2004, Gareth Gale at the age of 65 years. Born at Millville, he was the son of the late Florance Gale. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Bride Gale in May of 2004; also by his father-in-law, Louis T. Ludee; and brother-in-law, Gerard Ludee. He leaves to mourn his children, Loren, Millville, Sean, Halifax NS, Andy, Ontario, Karen (Friend Ruth), St. John's, NL, Collette (Dale), Cow Head, NL, Imelda (Enos), Burlington, ON, Gary (Gail), Randy (Lisa), Jason (Danielle) all of Calgary, AB; three grandchildren, Michael, Gina and Andrea; mother-in-law, Carrie Luedee; brothers-in-law, Wilfred (Brenda) Luedee, Margaree, NL, Bob (Sally) Luedee, Bishop's Cove, NL, Kevin (Buelah) Luedee, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Genieve (Dave) Fort McMurry, AB, Elizabeth (Fintan) Benoit, Stephenville, NL, Lucy (Donald) Gillis, Codroy, Mary (Bob), St. Andrew's, Terri (Wayne), St. Andrew's, Helen (Al) Wiscombe, Fort McMurray, AB, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. BRAGG, Melida
Passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre on Monday, August 23, 2004, Melida Bragg in her 89th year. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, December 2, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Arthur George Farrell and Sarah Ellen (Lomond) Farrell. Melida was predeceased by husband, Russell Dorman Bragg (1983); and brothers, Thomas, Albert, Russell and Bradley Farrell. She is survived by son, Russell and Jean (Port aux Basques); brother, John Farrell and Lecie (Port aux Basques); sister, Rita Dean (Sydney); grandson, Adam Bragg and Tamar (Mount Pearl); granddaughter, Amanda MacDonald and great-grandson, Jonah (Manuels); granddaughter, Alissandra Bragg (Manuels), the grandchildren's mother, Linda Dunne (Manuels), and by many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends who mourn her loss. Visitation took place from East Haven Funeral Home, Grand Bay, Port aux Basques, on Tuesday and Wednesday (August 24 and 25). Funeral service was held on Thursday, 26 August, at the Wesley United Church, Channel  Port aux Basques with the Reverend Patricia Ritchie officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, TCH. Donations may be made to a charity of choice. Requiescat in pace.

Age 71

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, George Short in his 71st year. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife, Dorothy of 47 years; son, Bruce (Krista); daughter, Beverly (Cecil) Sheaves; two grandchildren, Amy and Andrew Sheaves; sisters-in-law, Clara Hatcher and Josephine Tapp; four brothers-in-law, Eric (Maude) Tapp, James (Shirley) Tapp, Elijah Tapp and Chesley (Glenda) Tapp; special friends, Francis Kelly, Merv Humber, Ray and Flossie Pardy, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Emanuel and Florence (nee Hatcher); sister, Shirley Osmond; brother, Gorden Hatcher; brothers-in-law, Garfield Osmond and John Tapp. Visitation took place from Fillatre's Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 23, 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at St. James' Anglican Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. WELLS, Etta Maude
Passed peacefully away on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at Ida's Senior's Home in Port aux Basques, Etta Maude Wells age 86 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Randell; daughter, Loretta; her parents, Emmanuel and Mae Matthews; sisters, Dorcas Kettle and Julia Pearce; and brother, Gilbert Matthews. Left with fond and precious memories are her brother, Fred (Edna) Matthews; sisters, Jane Buttery and Susie Kettle; sister-in-law, Elsie Matthews, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, friends, Ida and staff at Ida's Senior's Home. Visitation took place at Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port aux Basques on Monday and Tuesday. The funeral service was held on Monday, Aug. 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Grand Bay with Rev. George Critchell officiating. Interment followed in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery. ROBERTS, Hartley

Age 88

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, Hartley Roberts in his 88th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories nine children: Maude Seymour (Claude), Tom Roberts (Veronica), Jim Roberts (Thelma), Joe Roberts (Karina), Christina Sheaves (Keith), Faye Coffin (Ossie), Joy Short (Bryan), Darlene Roberts, Cathy Strickland (Karl); 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Blanche Strickland, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva (nee Francis) in 1970; daughter, Myrtle; sisters, Ivy Sheaves, Myrtle Lawrence, Effie Rose; brothers-in-law, Garnet Strickland, Philip Sheaves, Jim Lawrence and Harold Rose. Visitation took place at Fillatre's Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 30 and 31 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at St. James' Anglican Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. Fudge officiating. Interment followed at St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Donations may be made to the St. James' Anglican Window Fund. HANKINSON, Irma
1960-2004

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of the late Irma Hankinson at her residence on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at the age of 44 years. Born at Isle aux Morts she was the daughter of Marie Organ and the late Herman Baggs. She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Wayne; and three sons, Wayne Jr., Cody and Jordan all of Port aux Basques, mother and step-father, Marie and Freeman Organ; sister, Melanie Organ all of Isle aux Morts; mother-in-law, Grace Hankinson of Alliston, ON; sisters-in-law, Heather (Ken) Robertson of Sunderland, ON, Barb (Wayne) MacMillan of Moffat, ON; brothers-in-law, Keith Hankinson of Cambridge, ON, Robert (Bern) Hankinson of Edmonton, AB, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Herman Baggs in 1959. Visitation took place on Monday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Tuesday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Holy Spirit Anglican Church, Isle aux Morts. Funeral services took place on August 31, 2004; Tuesday 2 p.m. at Holy Spirit Church officiated by Rev. Hubert Vallis.  Followed by cremation.  Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.
