WALL, James Leonard
(January 29, 1922 - April 12, 2011)
Our Dad passed peacefully away, April 12,
2011 in the Dr. Charles L.
Legrow Health Center, Port aux Basques.
Born in St. Andrews on January 29, 1922, the son of the late John (Jack)
Wall and Madeline MacIsaac; in 1951, he married our mom, Geraldine,
moved to Tompkins where he resided the rest of his life. Dad worked
for CN "The Railroad" all his working life retiring
in 1977, and until the last few years could tell a good train or railroad
story while still wearing "The Cap". After retirement,
he remained busy at his woodlot always having his own supply of firewood,
or in his vegetable and rhubarb garden with family and neighbors enjoying
the reaps of his harvest. He loved the outdoors and for many summers
could be found helping his hay-making buddies Albert Bungay and Russell
White. Many lunchtimes he frequented "Irving's" and later "Joe's" enjoying
both the company and the food or just a coffee.
He was avid Montreal Canadian fan and watched hockey to the end and
last but not least his biggest passion - cards - a good
game of crib - a passion he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
There was always a crib board on the table and maybe even a sociable
or two. Before he had his own grandchildren and even after, he always
considered Mike and Sharon's children Derrick, Michael, Rodney and
Karen part of his family and they treated him as so.
Dad is survived by his children Judy (Charlie, Jr.) Kendell, Louise,
Robert (Tracey), Margie (Butch), Maureen (Danny) Cormier, and Peter
(Lori). Surviving also are grandchildren Kris (Lucie), Kirk (Ashley),
and Emily Kendell, Stephanie and Jennifer Wall, Angie (Maurice) Kerfont,
Carly Wall, Travis and Melissa Cormier and great-grandchildren Julia,
and Tyler. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Marilyn, brother
Gus (Cecilia) and sister Agnes Johnson, sisters-in-law Adela Wall,
Emma Beaton, and Freida Bungay, brother-in-law Donald Tompkins and
many relatives and friends.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine (Tompkins) (1977),
son Donald (2008) and granddaughter Sarah (2010) and by brothers Frank,
Bernard, Ray and sister Mary.
The family are very appreciative of the care he received from Mountain
Hope Manor and the Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Center.
There was a celebration of dad's life on April 16, at St. Andrew's
Precious Blood Church, Father Edward Terry officiating; interment followed
at Precious Blood Cemetery. Visitation at the church on Friday from
2-4 and 7-9 PM. A reception followed the service at St. Kevin's Center.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
