It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wallace
Gilbert Pearce announces his passing on Sunday, April
6, 2008. Born in Port aux Basques
he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Ellen Pearce. Wallace is predeceased
by sisters, Anne Osmond and Caroline Osmond, brothers, Joseph Pearce,
Isaac Pearce, Jonas Pearce and James Pearce. He leaves to mourn with
fond and precious memories his family: wife Nina Pearce (nee Francis)
of 59 years marriage; sons Arthur (Eleanor) Pearce and Wilfred (Leona)
Pearce; daughter, Loretta Butt (Tom Waller); grandsons, Sheldon Osmond,
Stephen Butt, Jason Butt, Sheldon Butt, Glenn Pearce, Jonathan Pearce
and Justin Pearce; granddaughters, Edie Pearce and Ashley Pearce; great-grandchildren,
Hailey, Kirstynn, Jeremy, Mitchell, Sydnee and Brianna; brother, Stanley
(Kitty) Pearce; sisters, Bridget Button and Elizabeth Mahar; sisters-in-law,
Phyllis Francis, Elizabeth Francis, Dorothy (William) Ingram; brothers-in-law,
Max (Geraldine) Francis and Freeman (Rita) Francis, as well as a large
circle of nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Wallace lived a very
full life and he thoroughly enjoyed the company of others. Every day
was a gift. For those of you who got to know him, the pleasure was all
his. To know him was to laugh with him and to love him. You will remain
in our hearts forever. Visitation took place Sunday 7-9 p.m., Monday
and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services took place on Wednesday,
April 9, 2008 at St. James' Anglican Church, Channel. Officiated by Rev.
Hugh Fudge. Internment followed at St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois
Hill. Funeral arrangements were in the care of East Haven
Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

Spencer, Henry, 71, Dartmouth - passed away Thursday,
April 10, 2008 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Port aux Basques, NL, he
was the son of the late Stephen Spencer and Emma Butt. He was Administrative
Assistant for Canadian National Marine. He is survived by his wife,
Josephine (Strickland); sons, Myles, Barrie, Ont., Michael, Antrim,
N.S.; grandchildren, Julie, Karen, Adam, Amy; great-grandchild, Kaniah;
sister, Pauline (Lorinzo), Port aux Basques, NL; brothers, Ross, Port
aux Basques, Pat (Mary), North Sydney, Frank (Carol-Ann), Moncton,
Robert (Gloria) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers,
Sydney, George, Steve; sisters, Eileen, Ruth; step-father, Frank Matthews.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. L. Mattatall Funeral
Home. There will be no visitation by request of the family. Memorial
service was held 7 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church,
Dartmouth. A committal service will be held at a later date in Newfoundland.

at the age of 74 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children,

(Tammy) Fort McMurray; sisters, Rita, Helena Patry (Alfred); brothers,
Walter (Pamela), John (Vera), Gerald (Geraldine) and Frank all of St.
Fintan's; sisters-in-law, Agnes,, Philemenia, Irishtown, Bridget (Archie),
South Branch, Lucy, Oregan's; brothers-in-law, Edward (Shirley), Joe
(Marie) and Wilfred, Oregan's; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren
and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her
husband, Ambrose Ryan; sons, Andrew and Lawerence, infant daughter; parents,
Margaret and Alexander Downey; brothers, Vincent, Albert and Richard;
sisters, Maude Gillis and Marie Gale. A memorial service was held on
Thursday, April 17, 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's RC Church. Interment followed
at St. Thomas Cemetery in Upper Ferry. Funeral arrangements have been

June 18, 1909 - April 15, 2008
RYAN, Emeline (nee Gillis) passed peacefully away on April
15, 2008,
at her daughter's residence in St. John's, Emeline (Gillis) Ryan,
formerly of Codroy Valley, NL, at the age of 99 years. Predeceased by
her husband, Leo Ryan (Senior) on Feb. 7, 1988 and her son, Leo Ryan
(Junior) on July 13, 2007. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories
her sons, John (Jessie), Roger (Susan), Gerald (Margaret Rose), Pat and
Leonard; her daughters, Cyrilla Riley, Barbara O'Quinn, Catherine (Garry
Bambrick) Ryan and Mary (Andy) Noel; her sisters, Veronica (Ed) Berringer
and Josephine Gillis; her brother, John Gillis; her sisters-in-law, Bernice
Gillis and Marie Patry and many nephews, nieces and other relatives.
Following a private service in St. John's, she was resting at St. Ann's
Roman Catholic Church in the Codroy Valley of Newfoundland. Visitation
was held on Thursday, April 17th, from 7-9 p.m. and Friday,
April 18th, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass took place
at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19th, 2008 at St. Ann's Roman Catholic
Church in Codroy. No flowers by request but a donation of your choice
may be made in her memory.

of Martin in Fort McMurray, Alberta on April 16, 2008.

Passed away peacefully away at her home in Burnt Islands, N.L., on Wednesday,
April 23, 2008 at the age of 76 years. She was the daughter of the late
John and Margaret Thorne. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph (May
28, 2001). Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories her children:
sons, Melvin (Bertha Strickland) and Calvin (Norma); daughters, Cedella
(Angus Enwood), Lydia (Blaine Kerr) and Vera (Richard Lillington); grandchildren,
Melvin, Shirley, Yuron, Christopher, Tara-Lee, Dustin and Calvin; three
greatgrandchildren, Blaine, Dylan and Victoria; sisters, Glady Dow, Fanny
Jean Enwood, Lilia (Eric Neil), Carmen (Harry Skinner), Margaret Savoury
and Christina (Graham Hayward); special caregivers, Fan Lemoine and Mabel
Skinner, along with a large circle of other relatives and friends. Friends
visited the family residence in Burnt Islands on Saturday. The funeral
service took place at St. George's Anglican Church, Burnt Islands on
Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery
in Margaree with Reverend Nussey officiating. Funeral arrangements were

MATHESON, RUBYANN
Matheson, Ruby Ann - 53, Halifax, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour
on Thursday, April 24, 2008 surrounded by the love of her family. Born
in Port aux Basques, NL, Ruby is the daughter of Robert and Shirley
(Butler) Bragg of Newfoundland. Most recently, Ruby had been employed
with Manulife Financial as an administrative assistant. She had previously
been employed with the N.S. Barristers Society, the N.S. Highway Workers
Union and the TD Bank, where she met her soul mate, Ken. Ruby loved
her family dearly and will fondly be remembered for always putting
others ahead of herself. She was a woman of great faith in Christ and
was very active with home bible studies. Having been married June 17,
1980, she is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Kenneth "Ken." She
is survived by her cherished daughter, Stacey Matheson, Halifax, her
parents, Robert and Shirley Bragg, Port aux Basques, NL, brother, Jack
Bragg (Rose-Lee), Lower Sackville, her sister, Cindy Holthaus (Ronald),
Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, her nieces and nephews, especially
Nikki "Peanut" and Danny (Shannon), as well as many aunts,
uncles and cousins. By Ruby's request, cremation has taken place under

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a loving
husband, father, son and brother, Reginald Parsons,
at the age of 64 years, on Monday, April 28, 2008. He
was the son of Grace and the late Eric Parsons, of Rose Blanche. He leaves
to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 43 years, Shelia;
son David; mother, Grace, brother, Jerome, sisters-in-law Florence Parsons,
Gertie Young, Patricia (John) Brown, brother-in-law, Glendon Edwards,
as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Reg was predeceased by father, Eric Parsons (1982), brother Roland Parsons
(1996), mother-in-law and father-in-law, Levi and Louise Munden (nee
Cox), sister-in-law, Valencia Edwards (2006), brother-in-law, Samuel
Young (2006). Visitation took place at the family residence in Rose Blanche.
The funeral service took place on Thursday, May 1 at 2 p.m. from St.
Michael's Church in Rose Blanche with Rev. Clayton Billard officiating.

SHEAVES, PHILIP WILLIAM
Age 61, North Sydney
It is with great sadness the family announce the passing
of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Philip
W. Sheaves, age 61, on Wednesday, April 30, 2008,
at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born in Port aux
Basques, NL, Philip was the son of the late Philip and Ivy (Roberts)
Sheaves. He worked aboard the Marine Atlantic vessels between North
Sydney and Port aux Basques for many years, retiring early due to
an injury. He was also a skilled carpenter and boat builder, an avid
hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of
the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club and a member
of St. Matthew Wesley United Church North Sydney. He is survived by
his wife, the former Emma Anderson Sheaves, his four sons: Richard
(Donna Torravilte), Toronto; Kenny (Judy), Saskatoon; Scott, British
Columbia; and Dwayne (Carol Marchment), Lower Sackville; his four
grandchildren: Adam, Jenna, Jordan and Samantha, his great-granddaughter
Chesnea, brother John (Helen), two sisters: Myrtle (Reg) Button and
Florence Spencer all of Port aux Basques and by several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by son Derek, brother Kenny and five siblings
in infancy. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has
taken place. A funeral service for Philip was held May 3 at 3 p.m.
at St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of W.J Dooley Funeral
Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made
