CARTER, Gertrude
1919 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, Gertrude Carter of Port aux Basques at the age of 87 years. Born at Indian Cove, Cape La Hune NL, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Martha Buffett. She was predeceased by her husband Phillip Carter, son-in-law George Lomond, numerous brothers, sisters, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, her children, Alice (Phelps) Clarke Norwalk Conn, Ruby (Harold) Osmond, Joan Rodgers, Beverly Lomond, William Carter (Elsie), Dean Carter (Bonnie), all of Port aux Basques. Wanda (Terry) Snow Dartmouth, NS, and Michael Carter Bridgewater NS. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, sister-in-law; Mary Brooks New Hampshire USA, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation took place on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. Funeral services took place on Saturday, April 8, 2 p.m. at St. James’ Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Cannon Hugh Fudge. Interment followed at St. James’ Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.

SHEAVES, Rita Maude
Port aux Basques

Passed away on Friday, April 7, 2006 at Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, Rita Maude Sheaves in her 86th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her children, Sylvia Skeard (Ivan), Keith (Christina), Madelyn Lomond (George); grandchildren, Cathy Moore (Rick), Michelle Deveau (Glen), Trudy MacInnis (Stephen), Wendy Pickerem (Murray), Sonya Simms (Jeff), Tyson Sheaves, Steven Lomond; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Chad, Sara, Ryley, Madyson, Abby and Mollie; sister, Bernice Osmond (Albert), brothers, Herbert Stone and Maxwell Stone (Carrie) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Annie Stone (nee Strickland); husband, Airman Joseph in 1991; children, Franklin and Ruby; Sister Dorothy. Visitation was held on Saturday and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Wesley United Church with Rev. Patricia Ritchie officiating. PRETTY, Robert Cyril
Robert Cyril Pretty
passed away in the presence of family on Saturday, April 8, 2006. Predeceased by his father and mother, Cyril and Nora Pretty; grandson, Jamie Pretty; sisters, Ruth and Margaret; brothers, George, Ray and Jim. Left with loving and cherished memories are his wife of 50 years, Winnifred; children, Cyril (Cynthia) of St. John’s, Terry (Josie) of Kamloops, BC, Pastor Harry (Dianne) of St. John’s; grandchildren, Jonathon, Daniel, Katherine, Christopher, Jessica, Nicholas and Nicole; brother, Harry (Ruby) of Halifax; brother-in-law, Claude Wilton (Uca), Bob Wilton of Lewisporte, William Wilton of St. John’s; sister-in-law Mima Penney (Phonse) of Corner Brook, Georgina Trenchard of Peterborough, ON and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation at Barretts Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2006, then at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006 and 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006. Funeral service took place at St. James’ Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, Wednesday April 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Port aux Basques. Flowers accepted or donations may be made in his memory to the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home, St. John’s or the Extended Care Unit, Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre, Port aux Basques. FRANCIS, Rosanna
1914 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Saturday, April 8, 2006 Rosanna Francis of Fox Roost at the age of 91 years. Born in Fox Roost, she was the daughter of the late William and Phoebe Collier. She was predeceased by her husband, Emmanuel Francis in 1970; son, Ralph Francis in 2003; granddaughter, Sharon in 1976; four brothers and four sisters. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children, Nina (Wallace) Pearce, Henry (Phyllis) Francis of Port aux Basques, Max (Geraldine) Francis, Freeman (Rita) Francis of Isle aux Morts, Dorothy (William) Ingram of Margaree, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Francis of Isle aux Morts; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Saturday and Sunday from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in Margaree. Funeral services took place on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Cannon Hugh Fudge. Interment followed at St. Augustine’s Anglican Cemetery. TAYLOR, Sabina
1920 - 2006

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Saturday, April 15, 2006, Sabina Taylor of Rose Blanche at the age of 85 years. Born in Harbour Le Cou she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Hilliard. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Organ; second husband, William Taylor; son, Ralph Organ; grandson, Robert Organ; step-son, Gordon Taylor; brother, Levi Hilliard; sister, Martha Bateman; and step-brother, Wilson MacDonald. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children, Lorraine (Jim) Hardy of Rose Blanche, Harry (Eileen) Organ of Harbour Le Cou; step-children, Eileen (Harold) Lomond, Edna (Roy) Sheaves of Port aux Basques, Phyllis (Ron) Parsons of Rose Blanche, William (Ruth) Taylor, and Elizabeth Walters (Richard) of Dartmouth NS; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Sunday and Monday from St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church in Rose Blanche. Funeral service took place on Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s and All Angels Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Abbott. BUNGAY, Albert James
Age 83

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Albert James Bungay announced his passing on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories, his wife, Louise of 41 years; son, Rick (Yvonne); daughters, Bonnie Pike (Darren), Suzanne Bungay (Jim), Tracy Bungay (Brian); grandchildren, Alisha, Michael, Zachary, Lindsay, Hayley, Ryan, and Allison; sister, Alma Hardy, as well as a circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Maria Bungay (nee Stagg); brother, Bert; sister, Florence; brother-in-law, TJ Hardy; and very dear friend, Leslie Tuffs. Visitation took place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Friday, April 21, 2006 from Wesley United Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. BOWN, Melvin Rayfield
October 6, 1944 - April 19, 2006

It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin Rayfield Bown announces his passing. Melvin was born in Twillingate to Howard and Gertrude Bown of Change Islands. He met and later married Joyce Parrill of Pines Cove. Melvin retired October 2004 after a 38.6 year teaching career. He devoted himself to his students in Change Islands, Carmanville, Rocky Harbour, St. Anthony and Port ax Basques. Melvin was predeceased by his father, Howard. He leaves to mourn and forever remember his wife, Joyce of 42 years; sons, Rodney (Velma) of Lewisporte, David (Linda) of Burin, Stephen (Gail) of Paradise; and daughter, Jocelyn (Kevin) of Woodstock, NB; grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Deborah, Madison, Bradley, Brittany, Joshua, Tyler; and Mitchell and great-grandchild, Gloria. Also left to mourn are his mother Gertrude, brothers Cyril (Bernadette), Nelson (Doreen), Bertram (Margaret), Raymond (Elizabeth), Addison (Irene), Ernest (Wendy); sisters Linda (Cyril) and Daisy (Tom); as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and family friends. Visitation took place at Gordon Woolfrey’s Funeral Home in Lewisporte on April 21. Thanks to Rev. Bernice Spracklin for the beautiful Funeral service held on Saturday April 22, 2006 at St. Matthew’s United Church in Lewisporte. Interment followed at St. Matthew’s Cemetery. KING, Minta R.
1928 - 2006

Passed away at his residence on Monday, April 24, 2006 Minta Ransome King of Port aux Basques at the age of 77 years. Born in Burnt Islands, he was the son of the late Charles and Molly King. He was predeceased by his brother, Walter King; and his sister, Sylvia Hardy. He leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories his loving wife, Hazel of 55 years marriage; his children, Calvin King (Cynthia Baggs) of St. John’s, NL, Marilyn (Lorne) Pearce of Cape Ray; grandchildren, Karen (Scott) Parsons of St. John’s NL, Jamie King (Holly Seaward) of Corner Brook, NL, Stephen King of St. John’s, NL, Lorna and Jody Pearce of Cape Ray; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Erica Parsons of St. John’s, NL; sisters, Susan Dyke of Clarenville, NL and Jane (John) Holley of Corner Brook, NL; four brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law and a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation took place on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at St. James’ Anglican Church Channel officiated by Rev. Evelyn Smith and Rev. George Critchell. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Funeral arrangements in the care of East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques, 695-2300.
