BALL, Howard – Passed peacefully away Sept. 23, 2008, Howard Ball, Sr. at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 96 years of age. Mr. Ball retired from the A.N.D. Company in 1976 and was an active member of the Windsor Pentecostal Church for 70 years. Predeceased by wife, Mary (Flossie); and daughter-in-law, Jean Ball. Left to mourn are sons, Howard, Jr. of Grand Falls-Windsor, Hedley (wife, Bernice) of Powell River, B.C. and Dave (wife, Iris) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Donna (husband, Roy Rice) of Grand Falls-Windsor and Betty (husband, Don Pardy) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn sister, Clara Keeping and brother, Wallace Ball; 10 grandchildren, Ivan Ball, Brian Ball, Dion Ball, Cindy Robinson, Lori-Lynn Ball, Stephen Rice, Tara Rice, Danyelle Gardner, Susan Rice and Dion Pardy; 14 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Gary Andrews conducted funeral services at Windsor Pentecostal Church, Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008. Interment was at Windsor Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home. Pallbearers were grandchildren, Ivan Ball, Lori Lynn Ball, Stephen Rice, Danyelle Gardner, Dion Pardy and Susan Rice.

BARNES, Rita – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rita Barnes announce her passing at the A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital in Buchans on September 27, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by her husband, Thomas and infant son, Earl. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, sons, Sandy Barnes (Faith), Buchans, Paul Barnes (Holly), North Carolina; daughters, Eileen Pike (Allan), Buchans, Marilyn King (Eric), Stephenville; seven grandchildren, Steve (Heather), N.S., Ken (Linda), N.S., Jonathan (Marcia), N.S., Keith, N.S., Justin, St. John’s, Benjamin, Gander and Ethan, North Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Jenna, Ashley, Katie; one great-great-grandchild, Allysa and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Joan Antle conducted the funeral service at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Buchans on Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Interment at the Buchans Community Cemetery. BUTT, Alma (September 12, 1914-September 8, 2008) – It is with sadness that the family of the late Alma Butt announces her passing at the Carmelite House, Grand Falls-Windsor on September 8, 2008, age 93 years. Predeceased by her husband, Arthur; daughter, Bertha Mercer; son, Gerald; sister, Annie Perry and brother, Charles. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are sons, Gordon (Lynn) of St. Phillips; Edward (Phyllis) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Leonard (Ruth) of Gander; Arthur of Badger; Douglas (Cynthia) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Rex of Whitby, ON; Harold of Labrador City; daughters, Marion Follett of Badger; Marjorie Hewitt (Gerald) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Margaret Pitts (Wayne) of Cannings Cove; 34 grandchildren, a large number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Norman Chatman (Stella) of Cannings Cove; sister, Marion Penney of Cannings Cove; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation took take place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Monday, September 8, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday at the Badger Community Church from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service took place from the Badger Community Church, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Badger. CARAVAN, Heidi – Passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 Heidi Caravan, 40, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Heidi was a native of Foxtrap, Newfoundland, Canada and moved to Louisville in 1997 with her husband, Ron. She was well known in the community through her work as a journalist with WFPL Radio and the Kentucky News Network. She is now with her parents, Nelson and Etta Porter. She lives on in her husband, Ron; brothers, Harold and David; sister, Dana, and parents-in-law, Jim and Doris Caravan; as well as many other relatives, wonderful friends, and of course her beloved dogs, Shelby and Lexie. A private Memorial Service was held Saturday, October 4 and will be followed by a public Memorial Service to be announced in the coming weeks. Memorial donations may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society or any Breast Cancer Research Charity of your choice.

COLLINS, Bertha Mary (1930 - 2008) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bertha M. Collins announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center in Grand Falls-Windsor, on September 9, 2008 at the age of 77. Bertha was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Predeceased by son, Raymond, parents Patrick and Isabella Collins; brothers, George and Vincent Collins. Left with fond and loving memories are son, George (Sheila) of Cardigan, PEI. Also leaving to mourn are grandchildren, Patrick and Samatha Collins; brothers, Patrick (Paula), David (Joanne); sisters, Barbara Sheppard; Annabelle Bouzane (Bill); Jean Downton (Reg); Mary Tobin; Sheila Hiscock (Terry); Catherine Basha; Norma Hutchens (Don); sisters-in-law, Catherine Collins Mercer; Selena Collins, numerous nieces and nephews, along with a large circle of other relatives and friends. GOULDING, Cecil R. - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cecil Goulding announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center on September 26, 2008 aged 81 years. Predeceased by his parents, Nathan and Louise Goulding; sister, Ruby; brother, Cyril. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are his wife, Frances; sons, Rod (Michelle Boone) Terry (Debbie), Cecil Jr., and Jim; six grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation took place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Saturday, September 26, 2008 at 7-9 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2008 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held Monday, September 29, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father Colbert officiating. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor. HART, Marian (nee Abbott) – Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. John’s on Monday, September 29, 2008 at age 82. Predeceased by husband, Herbert, and daughter, Jessie. Leaving to mourn are sons, Lloyd (Cynthia), Halifax, George (Dolly), Grand Falls-Windsor, Terry (Diane), St. John’s; and daughter, Grace (Paul O’Reilly), Gander; son-in-law, Dave Carey; daughter-in-law, Bernadette Dawe; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. The family received visitors at Central Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor on Wednesday, October 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service took place on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Grand Falls-Windsor. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery (Windsor). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

HEALEY, Cyril Joseph – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cyril Joseph Healey (Dink) announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on Aug. 26, 2008 at the age of 75. Cyril retired from the paper mill in Grand Falls-Windsor after 43 years of service. Cyril was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Grand Knight for some years. Predeceased by parents, Isabel and Patrick Healey; brothers, Gerald, John and Tom; sister, Ann. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Josephine; children, Pat, Shirley, Cyril, Isabelle, John, Theresa and Rick. Also leaving to mourn are grandchildren, Paddy, Tina, Paul, Mary, Angie, C.J., Brian, Theresa, Jay, Roy, Eric, Michael and Katelyn; great-grandchildren, Stacey, Preston, Dillon, Madison and Michael; and great-great grandchild, Ashley, along with a large circle of relatives and friends. HEMEON, Albert Walter – Passed away suddenly on Sept. 10, 2008, Albert Walter Hemeon at his residence in Botwood. He was 73 years of age. Mr. Hemeon retired from Abitibi-Consolidated. Predeceased by parents, DeWhitt and Sarah Hemeon; brothers, Cecil, Cyril and Bobby. Left to mourn are wife, Hettie Winnie Rice; stepsons, Donald Rice and Melvin Rice; stepdaughters, Inez Rice; Sadie Rice and Rosemary Rice. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Annie (Daniel) Hiscock and Betty (John) Patrick; brothers, Gerald and Eric (Flora); and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Major Dinzel Baggs conducted funeral services at the Salvation Army Citadel, Botwood, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Botwood. HIBBS, Stephen – Passed peacefully away on September 9, 2008, at CNRHCC Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 70 years of age. Predeceased by parents, Zacharias and Beatrice Hibbs; brother, Archie Hibbs and sister, Gertie Hibbs. Left to mourn are wife, Ruby; sons, Jeffery of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Shirlie (Derrick Burt) of Peterview; step-daughters, Audrey Pullicino (Mike) of Toronto, ON, Brenda Carter (Scott Paul) of Toronto, ON. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Dorcas Jewer (Max), Francis Butler, Sadie Wile (Herbert); brothers, Ernest, William (Gladys), Ellijah (Ruby); four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. KELLY, Catherine “Kit” - 1923-2008 – Passed peacefully away at her home on September 7, 2008, Catherine “Kit” Kelly of Grand Falls-Windsor. She was 85 years of age. She is predeceased by her parents, James and Johannah (Hamilton) Kelly; sister, Helen; brothers, Raymond and Bill. Left to mourn are her sisters, Ruth Murphy; twin sister, Joan (late Vincent Crane) and sister, Lillian (Carlton Dawe) and Michael Kelly. She will be especially missed by her niece/daughter, Mary Kelly, niece, Christine (husband, Roy, children Amanda and Patrick), nephew, Stephen Kelly (wife, Colleen, children, Tara and Michael), her caregivers, Donna and Marjorie, as well as her many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Interment was at the Interfaith Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Central Funeral Homes. LANGDON, Madeline Linda – Passed away suddenly at her home in Northern Arm on September 3, 2008, Madeline Linda Langdon. She was 58. Predeceased by son, Wade Langdon and father, Lloyd Langdon. Left to mourn are mother, Gloria; son, Wayne of Edmonton, Alberta. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Edna Boone, Judy Darling (Paul), Patsy Cramm, Romaine Davis (Billy), Sherrie Langdon (Paul Boone) and Charlene Feeney (Brian); brothers, Ricky and Lawrence Langdon; three grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. LUSH, Harvey M.–It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harvey M. Lush of Kippens announce his passing on September 14, 2008 at the age of 71, after a short battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Sue; four daughters, Elaine (Lloyd) Lush of Stephenville, Tina (Allan) Richards of Ignace, Ont., Rhonda (Brian) Boyd of Stephenville, Barbie (Donnie) Layden of Corner Brook and Harvey’s special pal, Robert (Brud); five grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Josh, Kimberly and Brodie; three brothers, Gerald (Daphne) of Deer Lake, Ivan (Barbara) of St. Albert, AB, Keith (Elaine) of Paradise; four sisters, Yvonne (Fred) Rideout of Middle Arm, Ruth Chaffey of Vilna, AB, Loretta (Nelson) Dicks of Inuvik, NWT, Marilyn (Brent) de Freitas of Spruce Grove, AB; one stepsister, Sally (Steve) Harris of Saginaw, MI; two stepbrothers, Jerry (Lynn) Harvey of Fort Meyers, FL and Gary (Barbara) Harvey of Saginaw, MI; also his mother-in-law, Lillian Noel of Botwood; two sisters-in-law, Maxine (Harvey) Sheppard of Falkland, BC, Eileen (Robert) Wells of Botwood; and brother-in-law, Nelson Bignell of Red Water, AB; and a large circle of family, friends and co-workers. He was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Gladys Lush; stepfather, Jerry Harvey; father-in-law, John Bignell; and other family members, Gary Chaffey, Kathy Andrews, Wallace Watkins, Lloyd Penney and Sarah Slaney. Funeral services were held at the Zion Pentecostal Chuch in Stephenville on September 18 with interment at the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery. MENCHENTON, Kalvin Gerald —Passed peacefully away after a lengthly illness at the Central NL Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Kalvin Gerald Menchenton of Botwood. He was 72 years of age. Mr. Menchenton retired from Signode Steel Inc., Toronto in 1979. Predeceased by parents, Wesley and Emma Menchenton; sister, Violet. Left to mourn are his wife, Patricia (Bennett); son, Jason (Tina), Sexsmith, AB. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Blanche Callahan (Cecil), Ivy Mills (Kevin), Ida Thompson (Wes), Gladys (Brian), Olive Edison (Harvey); brothers, Winston and Ron and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Elizabeth Stewart conducted the funeral service at the United Church, Norris Arm North, on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2008. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Norris Arm North. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were Jason Menchenton, Ron Menchenton, Pleman Menchenton, Joe Bennett, Wesley Thompson, Harvey Edison. NOBLE, Pastor Evelyn Muriel Minnie (Hillier) - Passed suddenly away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre on Monday, September 15, 2008, Pastor Evelyn Noble. She was 83 years old. Predeceased by parents, Horatius and Florence Hillier; husband, Pastor Leander Noble; brother, Harold and sister, Gladys Beck. Born and raised in Bishop’s Falls she worked as a Pentecostal School Teacher (1943-1946), Goodyear Humber Stores Ltd. (1946-1949), and served as a Pastor with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland and Labrador from 1949 until her retirement in 1988. She was ordained in 1957 and retired in Birchy Bay and at the time of her death was a resident of Hollett’s Retirement Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. She is survived by two daughters, Doris (Torsten Jacque) of Postville and Alice (Garfield Pollard) of Glovertown; four grandchildren, Kimberley (Robert Ralph), Althea (Derek Holloway), Leanne, and Walter (Stella); eight great-grandchildren, Ashley, Erica, Gordon, Dylan, Bayley, Samantha, Walter Jr. and Dennis; brother, Cyril (Barbara) of Bishop’s Falls and sister, Pastor Gwendolyn Jeans of Birchy Bay; brother-in-law, George (Naida) of St. John’s and David (Louise) of Middle Arm. Plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastors Jeffrey E. and Andrea S. White conducted funeral services from Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, Bishop’s Falls on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008. Internment followed at Beacon Pentecostal Cemetery, Birchy Bay. Pallbearers were Derek Jeans, Paul Beck, Dave Peckford, Everett Bishop, Pearce Combden and Robert King.

NOSEWORTHY, Ronald – Passed away September 18, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Ronald Noseworthy of Bishop’s Falls. He was 77 years of age. Predeceased by his first wife, Cora; daughters, Cora Noseworthy and Emily Temple. Left to mourn are wife, Louise; their children, Jason (Sherri), Mark (Stefanie) and grandson, Logan; and Rhonda (Gregory) Street; children from first marriage, daughters, Isabelle Drover and Carol Ann Reid; sons, Ronald Noseworthy, Melvin Noseworthy; Andrew Noseworthy; and Terry Noseworthy; 20 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor J.E. White conducted funeral services at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Bishop’s Falls on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Bishop’s Falls. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Homes, Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were Darren Penton, Hedley Langdon, Vince Edison, Robert Bradbury, Roy Langdon and Ted Carpenter.

PARSONS, Dorothy - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dorothy Parsons announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre, on September 29, 2008, aged 79 years. Predeceased by her husband, Gerald Parsons and brother, Chesley. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are daughter, Sandra Kane of Grand Falls-Windsor; son, Elmo (Debra) of Dartmouth, NS; five grandchildren, Sherri Parsons, William (Nancy) Kean, Mark Parsons, Sean Parsons, Jack Parsons; one great-grandchild, Hayley; sisters, Irene Manuel of Campbellton, Marjorie (Mark) Rideout of Grand Falls-Windsor, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. PECKFORD, Barbara Frances (1927 - 2008) - It was with great sadness that the family of the late Barbara F. Peckford (Bob) announce her passing at the home of her daughter in Badger on September 9, 2008 at the age of 80. Predeceased by parents, John B & Marguerite MacNeill, sisters, Joan Brett, Eleanor Peckford and son-in-law, Jerry Squires. Left with fond and loving memories are husband Roy, children, Sharon and Bill Mayne of Badger, Bernard and Elaine of Marathon, Ontario, Sheila and Cyril Terry of Edmonton, Alberta, David of Edmonton, Alberta and Patricia Squires of Edmonton, Alberta. PHAIR, Elizabeth – (May 17, 1961–September 11, 2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elizabeth Phair announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on September 11, 2008, age 47 years. Predeceased by her parents, Matthew and Mary Glavine and brothers, Paul and Gerard (infants). Left to mourn with fond loving memories are her husband, Frank and pet cats, Harry and Buttons; brothers, David Glavine, John Glavine (Louise) and Matthew Glavine (Peggy Ann); sisters, Margaret Glavine (Clarence Dawe) and Mary Poole (Dr. Tom); sisters-in-law, Barbara Walsh, Grace Pike (Claude), Rose Lynch (Gerard), Madonna Andrews (Bruce); brothers-in-law, Leonard Phair (Barbara) and Raymond Phair (Ann); parents-in-law, Frank and Eileen Phair; aunt, Elizabeth Myers, Cambridge, ON; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and relatives. ROBERTS, Rosella — Passed away after a lengthy illness on September 2, 2008 at CNRHCC, Grand Falls-Windsor, Rosella Roberts. She was 83 years of age. Mrs. Roberts was a member of the Pentecostal Church Women's Ministries for many years. Predeceased by husband, William; daughters, Audrey, Jean, Joan; brother, Gordon; sisters, Mary Pynn and Evelyn Cole. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Collin Grimes, Junior Bailey, Howard Ball Jr., Lester Hayden, Michael Goulding and Stafford Winsor.

RUSSELL, Dennis – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Dennis Russell announce his passing at his residence on September 5, 2008 at the age of 64. Predeceased by his wife, Barbara; parents, Martin and Genevieve Russell; brother Don; and sister, Joan Flood. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are son, Dennis (Heather) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughter, Stephanie (Bob) of Grand Falls-Windsor; two grandchildren, Hannah and Holly; special friend, Helen Hutchcraft; brothers, Lewis (Sally) and Gerald (Heather); sister, Lorraine; brother-in-law, Raymond Flood and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral took place on Monday, September 8, 2008 from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Father Hearn officiating. Internment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street. Donations can be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. TILLEY, Watson - Passed away unexpectedly at home on September 10, 2008, at the age of 71 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Naomi. WALKER, Clayton – Passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor on Sept. 13, 2008, Clayton Walker, age 54 years. Clayton was born in Norris Arm on May 29, 1954, the son of Phillip and Elsie Walker. He married Juanita Higgins and together they raised their two sons, Roger and Nelson. He spent more than 20 years working with Abitibi-Consolidated and spent the last 10 years as director of operations at Corona College. Clayton leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by his life partner and soul mate, Bernice; sons, Roger and Nelson; lifetime friend, Juanita; parents, Elsie and Phillip; brothers, Barry (Hilda), Jimmy (Joyce); sisters, Florie, Frances (Allan), Wanda, and Eileen (Keith). WALL, Joseph C. – Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear on Friday, September 26, 2008, Joseph C. Wall of Grand Falls-Windsor, aged 82 years. WARR, Liverick L. - 1921-2008 – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Liverick L. Warr announce his passing at the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale, on September 8, 2008, at the age of 87. Liverick was a member of Legion #49. He retired from Abitibi in August, 1980. Liverick is predeceased by wife, Ruth (Knight) Warr. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Rob (Debbie) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Keith (Kim) of Dunville, ON; Bruce of Dunville, ON; daughters, Marie (Allan Stapleton) of Hamilton, ON; Betty (Charles Hentschel) of Hamilton, ON and Brenda of Hamilton, ON. Also leaving to mourn nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, along with a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place.
