BLAKE, Sydney Catherine Ruby – Passed away suddenly on May 30, 2008, Sydney Catherine Ruby Blake at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor. She was four months old. Predeceased by her great-grandmother and great-grandfather Patterson; great-grandmother Blake; great-grandfather Butler. Left to mourn are parents, Amanda Butler and Sherman Blake; sister, Mackenzie; brother, Hunter; grandparents, Wilson and Alice Butler, Brian and Sylvia Blake; Uncle Brandon Blake; great-grandparents, Cecil and Ruby Keats, Mrs. Frances Butler and Mr. Garfield Blake. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends. Father Linus Coady conducted funeral services at the Sacred Heart Parish, Bishop’s Falls on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bishop’s Falls. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were Sherman Blake, Billy Whiteman, Brian Blake and Brandon Blake. Honorary pallbearer was Cecil Keats.

BOONE, Hedley – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Friday, May 30, 2008, Hedley Boone, aged 85 years. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruby (nee Bowring); brothers, Melvin and Daniel; and sister, Greta. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, son, Darrell and daughter-in-law, Carol; two wonderful granddaughters, Hannah and Nora, who were Poppy’s pride and joy; brothers, Freeman (Joyce), Wallace (Margaret); sister, Marion Feltham; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and very special loyal friend, Alma Newbury. Visitation took place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor, Sunday, June 1, 2008 and Monday, June 2, 2008. The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 3 at 2 p.m. from the Salvation Army Park Street Citadel with Maj. Sandra Stokes officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would like to express their gratitude for the exemplary care provided by the medical and nursing staff of 5 South A, CCU, OR and especially the CVICU of the Health Sciences Centre. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

BROWN, Joseph Valentine – It is with great sadness the family of the late Joseph Valentine Brown announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on May 22, 2008 at the age of 83. Predeceased by first wife, Dora Curl; parents, two brothers; five sisters; and two grandchildren. Left with fond and loving memories are wife, Margaret of 52 years; sons, Hollis (Diane) of Kingston, NS, Velroy (Caroline) of Happy Valley, Labrador, Carl (Dale) of Port Lambton, ON; daughters, Dorothy (Thomas King) of St. Lewis, Labrador; Priscilla (Roland Cooper) of Twillingate; Vera (Kevin Genge) of Red Deer, AB; and Brenda (Compton Bird) of Moose Jaw, SK. Also leaving to mourn brother, Clifford (Emma) Brown; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; numerous nephews and nieces; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Pastor Fred Randall conducted the funeral service at the Apostolic Church in South Brook May 25. Interment was the South Brook Cemetery. Pallbearers were sons, Hollis, Velroy and Carl Brown; sons-in-law, Thomas King and Compton Bird; and nephew, Kevin Holley. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sheila Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.

BUDGELL, Gertrude H. – (1918–2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gertrude H. Budgell announce her passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor on May 17, 2008, at the age of 89. Predeceased by her husband, Ernest; sisters, Mildred, Dorothy and Evelyn Beaton, Ella Hunt and Vera Earle; brother, Sidney Beaton. Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters, Verna (Dermot) Culleton of Grand Falls-Windsor and Brenda (Edward) Murphy of Vancouver, B.C. Also left to mourn are her grandchildren, David Culleton, Nancy (Andrew) Proudfoot, Jeffrey, Heather, Kenneth and Elizabeth Ludlow; great-grandchildren, Samantha Culleton and Colin Proudfoot. Reverend Randy Lockyer conducted the funeral service at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery in Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Verdon Young, Louis Alteen, Lou Hennebury, Reg Earle, Allan Miller and John Matthews, members of the Masonic Lodge Northcliffe. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

BURT, Amy – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Amy Pearl Burt announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by her husband, Peter Burt and daughter, Louise. Left to mourn with fond memories are four sons, Clarence, Gerald (Shirley), both of Peterview, Barry (Janet) of Ontario, Rodey (Bernice) of Gander; grandchildren, Amanda, Gerry, Tammy, Justin and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Allison, Krista, Jacob, Bethany and Shelby; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place from Botwood Funeral Home on May 15, 2008. The funeral service was held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel in Peterview. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Peterview. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Botwood Funeral Home.

BUTLER, Anna Maria – It is with great sadness the family of the late Anna M. Butler announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center on May 1 at the age of 92. Predeceased by husband, William and daughter-in-law, Blanche. Left with fond and loving memories son, William. Also leaving to mourn grandchildren, Maria, Nancy and Michael; brothers, David and Arthur Kielley; nieces Ultan, Karen and Michelle; nephews Gerard and Allan, along with many relatives and friends. Father David Joy conducted the funeral service at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception May 3. Interment was at the Roman Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

BYRNE, Joseph - Passed away May 27, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Joseph Byrne of Botwood. He was 75 years of age. Left to mourn wife Shirley; sons Shawn, Scarborough, ON. Derrick (Tammy) North York, ON, Brian (Terri-Lynn) Botwood, NL, Rodney (Heather) Sydney, NS, Chad (Susan) St. Thomas, ON; daughters, Debbie (Darren Peyton) Botwood, NL, Angelia (Wade Hill) Pickering, ON; Dianne (Stan Faulkner) Bishopfalls, NL, Dana (Shane Stewart) Brooklin, ON; sisters, Patricia (late Michael Pinsent), Frances (Scott Dwyer), June (late Ambrose Curtis), Lucy (Art Kelly), Mary (Bernard O'Quinn); brothers, Dennis (June), Thomas (Karen); 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Father Linus Coady conducted funeral services from Hoskins Funeral Home in Botwood Friday, May 30. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Botwood.

CHAYTOR, Arch Nelson – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Arch Nelson Chaytor announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the age of 74 years. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Susan Chaytor; and a number of brothers and sisters. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Mabel; daughters, Marlene (George) Solbeck of Ontario, Madeline (Gerry) McMillan of Winnipeg and Darlene Chaytor of Peterview; sons, Dennis (Tammy) and Darryl (Victoria), both of Ontario. Also leaving to mourn nine grandchildren, Joseph, Cassandra, Megan, Tyson, Channing, Machaela, Patti, Laurie and Heather; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Max, Wallace, Reg; sisters, Carrie and Doris; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place at Botwood Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2008 and Sunday, May 18, 2008. The funeral service took place on Monday, May 20, 2008 at 2 p.m. from The Salvation Army Citadel, Peterview. Interment at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Peterview. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Elias, Joseph, Morley, Hubert, Terry and Willis. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce and Glen.

CURTIS, Pearce Donald – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Pearce Donald Curtis announces his passing after a lengthy illness, at the Health Center in Cape Coral, Florida on May 21, 2008, at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Cassie Curtis of Grand Falls-Windsor; brothers, Wilson and Gordon. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife, Vernette; son, Douglas (Joanne); daughter, Minnie (Thomas) Castor; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all living in the United States; brothers, Wallace (Ruth), Paul (Linda); sisters, Maggie LeDrew, Evelyn Miller (Ron), Ethel O’Dea, Esther Pollard (John), Gloria Curtis, Pearl Walsh; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. from the Salvation Army Park Street Citadel, Grand Falls-Windsor, with Major Sandra Stokes officiating. Interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Union Street. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

DUFFETT, Cora – Passed peacefully away surrounded by family members, May 1 at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, Cora Duffett. She was 82 years of age. Predeceased by husband, Bob; sons, Allan and Rob. Left to mourn her sons, Keith (Shaaron) of Charlottetown, P.E.I., Gary (Verna) of Two Hills, Alta., Paul (Rhonda) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Christine, Gail (Paul Finn), Paula (Gerry Tubrett), Laurie (Tom Hart), all of Grand Falls-Windsor; special granddaughter Vanessa (Bryan Reid) of Grand Falls-Windsor; special family friend Heather Rendell of Bishop’s Falls. Also leaving to mourn one brother, Roy Mullins of Kitchener, Ont.; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Ray Brett conducted funeral services at the Anglican Church in Buchans Tuesday, May 6. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery in Buchans. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Paul Duffett, Gary Duffett, Michael Finn, Paul Finn, Maurice Bartlett and Bryan Reid.

GRANTER, Elsie – Passed away May 11, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Elsie Patricia Granter (Burry) of Bishop’s Falls, formerly of Greenspond. She was 86 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Duncan (Don); son, Clarence Gordon; parents, Fred and Elizabeth Burry; sisters, Priscilla, Ethel, Marion and Alice; brother, Gordon. Left to mourn are her sons, Fred (Linda); Maurice; daughters, Bernice (Job Norris), Linda (Gerald Thorne); brothers, Cecil, Fred (Carrie); seven grandchildren, Stacey Norris (Preston), Susan MacInnis (Trevor), Brian Granter (Natalie), Scott Granter (Janice), Andrew Granter, Stephen Thorne (Katie), Krista Thorne; three great-grandchildren, Kalee and Madison Granter and Ainsleigh MacInnis; sisters-in-law, Mary Burry and Effie Granter; brothers-in-law, Edward Kean, Edgar Parsons, Lloyd Biggs, Fred Olive and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Charles Harris conducted funeral services from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Bishop’s Falls, Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Interment was at the Anglican Church Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were Brian and Andrew Granter, Stephen and Gerald Thorne, Job Norris, Lindsay Prince and Sterling Kean.

GREEN, Lloyd George – Moved to his heavenly home May 15, 2008. Born Nov. 10, 1916, he grew up in Bishop's Falls and moved to Windsor when he and Hilda (Benson) were married. In 1975 they moved to St. Catharine’s, ON to be near their growing family. In addition to Hilda, left to mourn is son, Everett (Nancy) and their children, Cindi and Chad and daughter, Valerie (Keefe) - children, Rodney (Samantha) and Bryan. Also survived by five great-grandchildren and sisters, Sadie Hoffe and Mascie Green. The funeral was held on May 19, 2008 from the Hulse and English Funeral Home and Chapel in St. Catharine’s, ON. If so desired, donations may be made to the Gideons or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

MURDOCH, Lillian Elizabeth - It is with great sadness that the family of Lillian Elizabeth (Caines) Murdoch, Deer Lake announce the death of their loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. Lillian passed away at Western Memorial Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the age of 79 with her family by her side. Lillian was truly devoted to her family and leaves to mourn many who will cherish memories of time shared with her. Included in this family are her husband of 59 years, John; children, Alec (Terri), Kingston, Ont, Diane, Grand Falls-Windsor, Heather Perry (Tony), Antigoinish, NS, Bill (Judy), Deer Lake and Allison Peyton (Grant), Grand Falls-Windsor; grandchildren, Heather Samms, Ian Murdoch, Melanie Marchand, Julian Biello, Melissa Perry, Ashley and Mark Murdoch and Matthew and Abigail Peyton; great-grandson, Benjamin Marchand and sister, Sandra Adey (Bernard). Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Elma (Payne) Caines; brothers, Eric, Newman, Malcolm and Harvey, as well as her half brother, John and half sister, Eva. Lillian’s family far outstretched those listed above, however, as she was loyal and committed to many groups within the communities she was part of throughout her life. As an active member of several church groups, Gideons International, Girl Guides of Canada, Golden Years Fellowship, Lillian’s passion for the causes she believed in matched the vibrant affection she held for her family. Visitation took place on Friday, May 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake. Lillian’s funeral service was held on Saturday, May 10th at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel with Major Lindsey officiating. Interment followed at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery, Wight’s Road. Donations can be made in her memory to Gideons International, www.gideons.ca and The Stephan Hopkins Memorial Foundation (Side Scan Sonar), www.73days.ca. The family guest book may be signed or a memorial donation may be made through our website www.fillatre.ca

NEWHOOK, Berlyn – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Berlyn Newhook announce her passing at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by husband, Alonzo Newhook; son, Jimmy; daughter, Florence; brothers, Edgar, Bill and George; sisters, Ella, Jessie, Pearl, Myrtle and Dorothy (Madie). Left to mourn with fond memories are her children, Francis (Gladys) Newhook of Botwood, Paul of Botwood, and Fred; daughters, Yvonne (Jim) Trueman, Linda (John) McMillan, both of British Columbia, Sheila (Dave) Brace of Bishop’s Falls and Christine (Graham) Hancock of Botwood. Also leaving to mourn are 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four brothers; one sister; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Jubilee Pentecostal Tabernacle. Interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home.

OSMOND Helen – Passed peacefully away at the A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital in Buchans May 27, 2008 Helen Osmond, age 60 years. Predeceased by parents, William and Jessie Higdon; brothers Cyril and Loderick Higdon. Left with fond and loving memories, husband, Eric Osmond of Millertown; son, Blair (Crystal) of Millertown; daughter Patricia of Millertown; mother-in-law Gladys Osmond; brothers, Ralph Higdon of British Columbia, Randy Higdon of British Columbia, Damian Higdon of Halifax, N.S.; sister, Lirraine (Robert) of Stephenville, Patsy (Pat) of New Brunswick; grandchildren Robyn, Jada; and a large circle of family and friends. Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and to the Millertown United Church. A memorial service was held Friday, May 30 at Millertown United Church. Arrangements were made through Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander.

PARDY, Donald J. – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald J. Pardy announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on May 3, 2008, at the age of 75. Predeceased by his wife, Gladys; grandson, Donald; sisters, Jean, Sylvia, Rosalie, Hilda; and brothers, George and Cecil. Left with fond and loving memories is his son, Don (Tanya) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also left to mourn are his brothers, Neil (Doris), Bruce (Jean), Ray (Shirley); granddaughter, Elizabeth Pardy and friends, Jim Penney and Bob Mercer. Reverend Randy Lockyer conducted the funeral service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery in Grand Falls-Windsor. STAGG, Annie Susan – Passed peacefully away May 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Annie Susan Stagg. She was 79 years of age. Predeceased by parents, John and Elizabeth Small; brothers, Bill, Walter, Harvey and Cecil; sister Maisie Alyward. Left to mourn husband, Arthur; sons, Arthur Jr. (Karen), Randy (Bonnie), Ricky (Shelley), all of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughter, Cynthia (John Thompson) of Bishop's Falls; sisters, Margaret (Jack O'Reilly), Kate Coffin, Myrtle Fudge, Betty Belliveau; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Major Sandra Stokes conducted funeral services from the Salvation Army Park Street Citadel in Grand Falls-Windsor Thursday, May 22. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery on Caribou Road. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home in Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were sons, Arthur, Randy and Ricky; son-in-law, John Thompson; grandsons, Mark Stagg and Jonathan Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Geoffrey and A.J. Stagg.

STROUD, Edward Calvin – Passed away May 30, 2008, at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Edward Calvin Stroud. He was 72. Predeceased by parents, Appleton Cleaves and Elizabeth Stroud; son, Edward; brothers, Con, William, Cleaves, Bert, Donald; sisters, Della Connors, Edith Goodyear. Left to mourn, wife, Pauline Stroud; son, Brian Stroud of Ontario; daughter, Trudy Stroud of Grand Falls-Windsor; stepsons, Curtis Anderson (wife, Hazel) of Labrador; Glenn Canning (wife, Daphne) of Botwood; Bruce Canning (wife, Bev) of Islington, Wayne Canning (wife, Dawn) of St. John’s, Wayne Hillier (wife, Cheryl) of Bishop’s Falls; Roger Canning of Ontario; Gary Canning, (wife, Cindy) of Lower Island Cove; stepdaughters, Alice (husband, Junior Follett) of Western Bay, Trina (husband, Bill Barnes) of Old Perlican, Linda Canning of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Shirley Cave, Nita Quinton, Kate Bourne, Cora Bouzane; brothers, David, Daniel, Robert; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Charles Harris conducted funeral services at St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Grand Falls-Windsor on Monday, June 2, 2008. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery, Caribou Rd., Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Gary Stroud, Derek Stroud, Roger Stroud, John McDonald, William Hynes and Zachary Stroud.
