BOYLE, Dorothy (Dot) Cecilia–It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy Boyle announce her passing Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre. She was 81 years of age. Predeceased by husband Albert; parents John and Johanna McHugh; brothers Dermot, Tom, Jack, Firmin and sister Bride. Left to mourn with the most loving memories her two sons Albert (Alice) of Grand Falls-Windsor and John (Margaret) of Ottawa; daughter Brenda (Brian) Tobin of Grand Falls-Windsor; three grandchildren, Shawn, Christopher and Courtney. Also leaving to mourn sister, Sr. Mary McHugh of New Brunswick; brothers Edward (Aggie) of New Brunswick and Eric (Betty) and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation took place at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Tuesday, March 11, 2008. The funeral was held Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Father David Joy officiating. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Arthritis Society. Dot started every day always thoughtful, always positive, always thankful, always humble, always smiling. She will be forever loved and forever in our hearts. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Wilmore Eddy, Wally Edwards, Brian Gill, Paul Murphy Geoff Kelly and Jed Sullivan.

JEFFERIES, Neil – Passed away suddenly March 7, 2008 at Civic Hospital in Brampton, Ont. Neil Jefferies of Botwood. He was 91. Mr. Jefferies was a loving husband, father and grandfather and had a wonderful sense of humour. When asked by his children for an autograph he would always write “In the wood box of your memory, may I always be a chip.” Predeceased by wife, Violet; son, Gerald; granddaughter, Kelly Vaters; parents, George and Clara Jefferies; brothers, Arthur, Pleaman, Sandy, Wesley and Will; sisters, Doris, Lucy, May, Phyllis. Left to mourn are son, Roy (Pat Horwood); daughters, Bernice (husband, Harold King), Eileen (Claude Vaters); daughter-in-law, Dorothy Caldwell; 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Eileen, Wayne, Sharon, Kimberley, Sandra, Beverly, Chad, Greg, Cathryn; 15 great-grandchildren, Shannon, Jennifer, Krista, Chantelle, Derek, Shane, Josh, Melissa, Monica, Gerald, Kiara, Emily, Cameron, Trinity, Zayden; seven great-great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ciera, Braydon, Hailey, Alexis, Faith, Brittany and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Linda Burt conducted funeral services at Trinity United Church in Botwood Friday, March 14, 2008. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery in Botwood. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home in Botwood. Pallbearers were grandsons, Chad and Greg Jefferies; great-grandson, Derek Woods; nephews, Jack Jefferies, Boyce Woolridge, Clarence Woolridge.

JENKINS, Walter Melvin – Passed away March 14, 2008 after a lengthy illness, Walter Melvin Jenkins at home in Bishop’s Falls. He was 78 years of age. Mr. Jenkins retired from Lewisporte Wholesalers in 1993 and was a member of the Salvation Army and the Bishop’s Falls Volunteer Fire Dept. Predeceased by father Allan; mother Mabel; brother Hubert of Twillingate. Left to mourn are wife Dorothy; sons Keith (friend Linda) of Bishop’s Falls and Paul (wife Rexanne) of Chipman, Alta; daughter Dianne of Upper Tantallon, N.S.; brother Maxwell Jenkins; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Major Don Feltham conducted funeral services at the Salvation Army in Bishop’s Falls Tuesday, March 18. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Paul Hoskins of Hoskins Funeral Home in Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were Clarence King, Don Stanley, Retis Hancock, Harry Pretty, Fred Boone, Cyril Stone. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Harnum and Stephen Glavine.

KING, Catherine - Passed away March 5, Catherine King at Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre in Botwood. She was 55. Mrs. King retired from teaching in 2003 and was a member of Kinette Club of Botwood and the Retired Teachers Association. Predeceased by mother, Esther and father, Kenneth Green. Left to mourn, are husband, Carson; son, Stephen (wife, Wendy) of Grand Falls-Windsor and daughter, Amy of Botwood. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Luetta Lomond (Philip) and Marina Wall (Ralph); and brothers, Terry Green (Elsie) and Nelson Green; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Linda Burt conducted funeral services at Trinity United in Botwood on Saturday, March 8. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Homes, Botwood. Pallbearers were Phil Lomond, Terry Green, Ralph Wall, Kevin Strowbridge and Wilson Bridger and Peter Roper.

MCLAUGHLIN, Mary Barbara (nee WICKS): At the age of 71 after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer, Mary passed away peacefully on March 8, 2008 surrounded by love and support from her family at her bedside at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre. Mary Barbara was the eldest daughter of the late William and Hazel (Sheppard) Wicks from Port Union. Leaving to mourn with many wonderful and fond memories is her devoted and very affectionate husband John Patrick McLaughlin; three daughters Diane (Murray Budd) of Moncton, N.B.; Karen (Randy Reid) of Grand Falls-Windsor, and Lisa (Barry Hoffe) of Bishop’s Falls, and her only grandchild, her cherished granddaughter, Susan McLaughlin. Also left to mourn are sisters Agnes, Debra, Frances and Linda and brothers Edward (Ned), Lester, William, Terry, David, Angus, Paul and John (Jackie). Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Parish on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with internment to follow at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Randy Reid, Barry Hoffe, Murray Budd, Ned Wicks, Paul Wicks and Jim McLaughlin.

PARSONS, Roma Isabel, 1944 - 2008 – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roma Isabel Parsons announce her passing at the Ottawa General Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario on March 15, 2008 at the age of 63. Roma was a member of the United Church in Russell, Ontario. Roma retired from Woolco Woolworth and remained as a self-employed seamstress to her death. She is predeceased by husband, Joseph Parsons, mother and father, Marion and Jack Mercer, brothers, Harry and Roy Mercer; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Marge Mercer; niece, Debbie Mercer; Aunt Mary Mercer and first husband, Terry Ballard. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Geoffrey (Ruth) Ballard of Grand Falls-Windsor and Darren (Darlene) Ballard of Brandon, Manitoba; daughter, Nancy (Dean Delaney) of Ottawa, Ontario. Also leaving to mourn grandchildren, Darcy and Tanisha Ballard; Hannah, Peyton and Lillian Delaney; sister, Helen Hutchcraft; brother Jack Mercer, sister-in-law, Gladys Mercer; brother and sister-in-law, John and June Parsons; Aunt Amy Peyton, Uncle Rowland Rice; special niece, Kathy (Faren) Blanchard and numerous nieces and nephews. Reverend Howard Crooks will conduct the funeral service at the Memorial United Church on March 22, 2008. Interment will be at the Interfaith Cemetery. Pallbearers are Trevor Philpott, Jim Philpott, Dean Delaney, Faren Blanchard, Dennis Russell and John Parsons. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes. PERRY, Evelyna – 1913 - 2008 - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Evelyna Perry announce her passing at the Central New-foundland Regional Health Centre on Monday, March 31, 2008 at the age of 94. She was a member of Evangel Pentecostal Tabernacle of Grand Falls-Windsor. Predeceased by husband, Cecil; two infant sons, Cyril and Raymond and son, Bruce. Leaving to mourn a loving sister, Doris Hunter of Ontario, an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends. Pastor Marvin A. Burton will conduct the funeral service at Central Funeral Homes on Friday, April 4, 2008. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mike Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.

PIERCEY, Reginald - Passed away March 19, 2008, peacefully Reginald A. Piercey at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 81. Mr. Piercey was self-employed and retired in 1980. Predeceased by father, Robert; mother, Doris; son, Reg; and brother, Milton. Left to mourn are wife, Ena; daughter, Lorraine (Dan Kelly) of Grand Falls-Windsor; sisters, May Nesbitt of Florida and Betty Collins of Toronto; brothers, Ralph and George (Betty) of Grand Falls-Windsor; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Charles Harris conducted funeral services at St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Grand Falls-Windsor Saturday, March 22. Interment was at the Anglican cemetery on Caribou Road. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home in Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Al Barguy, Al Dwyer, George Pardy and Art, Bob and Eric Hunter.

RIDEOUT, Robert Victor – Passed away March 12, 2008 at Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre in Botwood, Robert Victor Rideout of Botwood. He was 59 years old. Mr. Rideout retired from Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro in 2005. Left to mourn are wife, Annabelle; parents, Agnes and Robert Rideout; sons, Rob (Lisa) of Botwood, Dan (Dion) of St. John’s, Gerry (Theresa) of Clarenville, Shannon (Joy) of Grimshaw, Alta.; daughter, Heather (Larry Kinden) of Grimshaw, Alta.; daughter-in-law, Kim of Lloydminster, Alta. Also leaving to mourn sister, Lorene (Terry Pelley) and brothers, Gerry (Beatrice), Maurice (Annetta); seven grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Linus Coady conducted funeral services at St. John the Baptist Church in Botwood Saturday, March 15, 2008. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home in Botwood. Pallbearers were sons, Rob, Shannon, Gerald; brother, Gerry; brother-in-law, Terry Pelley; friend, Gary Sharron; honorary pallbearer was son, Daniel.

SNOOK, Clara (nee Clarke) – Passed peacefully away Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Lakeside Senior Citizens Home in Gander, Clara Snook, aged 85 years. Predeceased by husband, Leonard (August 13, 1977); brother, Walter; sisters, Isola Clarke and Doreen Johnson. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughters, Ina Mosher (Ron), Ann Egas (Robert); son, Leonard, (Wendy); brother, William (Gertie); sisters, Emma Cox and Ina Adams (Doug); six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Special thanks are expressed to Dr. Bennett of Gander and the staff of Lakeside Seniors Home for their care over the past couple of years. VIVIAN, Frances Theresa – Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander on March 4, Theresa Vivian of Glenwood in her 81st year. Predeceased by husband, Roland; and parents, James and Ellen John; brothers, Louis, Gregory, Harry, James and Michael; sisters, Nora and Catherine. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons, Reginald (Katie) of Glenwood, Roland (Betty) of Glenwood, Harold (Christine) of Appleton; daughters, Marie (Joe) Vaters of Glenwood, Gertrude (Ronald) Smith of Trenton, Ont., Nellie (Ed) Power of Grand Falls-Windsor; sister, Philomena Vincent of Ontario; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Roland Vivian, Harold Vivian, Joe Vaters, Rodney Vaters, Todd Vaters and Andre Power. Funeral services were held Friday, March 7 at the First United Church in Glenwood. WHEELER, Christina Maria – It is with great sadness the family of the late Christina Wheeler announce her passing on Tuesday, March 11 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre. She was 37 years of age. Predeceased by her father, Harry; paternal grandparents, Gerald and Kathleen Humber; maternal grandfather, Harry Arnold and Nina Hynes; and great uncle, Ned Hedges. Left to mourn with fond and living memories husband, Brian; daughters, Rose and Mary; mother, Nadine Arnold, all of Grand Falls-Windsor; brother, Chris (Christina) of St. John’s; special friend, Cathy Cassell; and a large number of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Visitation took place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 13. The funeral service was held Friday, March 14 from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Father David Joy officiating. Interment was at the Roman Catholic cemetery, Union Street. No flowers by request, donations in her memory may be made to the Janeway Children’s Hospital. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Cathy Cassell, Shelley Tulk, Edna Sheppard, Charlotte Tulk, Denise Elson and Christina Humber.
