ANTLE (nee Jewer), Vera (June 16, 1945-June 20, 2009) - It is with sadness that the families of the late Vera Antle (nee Jewer) announce her passing at the Cascade Hospice Residence, Chilliwack, BC, on June 20, 2009, at age 64. Predeceased by father, Bruce Jewer and infant brother. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are husband, Arthur; son, Adam; daughter, Sylvia; mother, Ada; grandchildren, Kayden and Andrew; brothers, Ron (Fern) Jewer, Eric (Rita) Jewer, Bruce (Olive) Jewer and Frazer (Cindy) Jewer; sister, Olive (Doug) Arthur; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place Saturday, June 27, 2009 from Trinity United Church, Botwood with Rev. Elizabeth Stewart officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home, Botwood, Nfld.

BAKER, Reginald (March 9, 1935-June 24, 2009) - It is with sadness that the families of the late Reginald Baker announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on June 24, 2009. He was 74 years of age. Predeceased by parents, James and Neta Baker; 11 brothers and sisters. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife, Ina; daughter, Regina (Garry) Snow of Cambridge, ON; sons, Regan (Brenda) of Mount Forest, ON, Robert of St. John's, NL; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Hanna and Matthew Snow; Grace, Esther and Stefan Baker; sister, Joyce Piercey of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place Sunday, June 28, 2009 from the House of God Assembly, New Bay Road, Grand Falls-Windsor with Pastor Nelson Guy officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the South and Central Health Foundation. Pallbearers were Regan Baker, Robert Baker, Garry Snow, Jonathan Snow, Stefan Baker and Matthew Snow. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

CLATNEY, Loretta - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Loretta Clatney (nee Janes) announce her passing at the DVA Unit, O'Connell Center, Corner Brook, NL. She was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack Clatney) in 1993; son, Colin in 2000; parents, William and Bertha; sisters, Edith, Doris, and special nephew, Desmond Janes. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories son, Daniel (Kathleen) Corner Brook; daughter, Nancy Pelley (Fred) Kitimat, BC; daughter-in-law, Janey Clatney-Bertsch (Dale) Saskatchewan; grandchildren, Lori, Danielle, Paul, Richard, Brian, Rodney and Ryan, nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Angela (late Edward), Marie (late Wilson); brothers, Wallace (Marg), Bill (Olive), Fred (Sheila), Kevin and Gary (Patricia). Also left to mourn are a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. A resident of Grand Falls-Windsor she moved to Corner Brook in 2007. Loretta (Lou) loved her family and was extremely proud of them. Loretta was a Veteran. Joining at a very young age, she was in the Canadian Women's Army Corp. (CWAC). She prided herself in being an ex-service woman and was active in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and she has also been involved in the Veterans Education programs and the distribution of bursaries. Loretta enjoyed sketching and always had a poem or toast for special occasions. She had a superb memory until the end and was also very witty. Loretta will be missed by her family and friends. Father William Hearn conducted the funeral mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on June 13, 2009. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Howse, Dave Howse, Kevin Howse, Ed Fewer, Jim Day, and Don Hiscock. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Funeral Homes.

DAY, Jeanette, Francis - It is with sadness that the families of the late Jeanette Frances Day announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, at the age of 79. She is predeceased by her husband, Hubert Day; parents, Herbert & Bessie Bishop; brothers, Jack, Roy, and Harry; sister, Iris. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are husband, Donald Elson; son, Dennis (Veda) of Stephenville; three grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah (Eric Flynn), and Melissa; brother, Raymond Bishop of Campbellton; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The funeral service took place Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Private visitation for family and invited friends took place Monday, June 8. Pallbearers were Donald Elson, Ralph Bishop, Christopher Day, Eric Flynn, Roy Bishop, and Vince Christian. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

FOLEY, Margaret - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Margaret Ellen Foley announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center, Grand Falls-Windsor on June 20, 2009 at the age of 72. Margaret was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Badger. Predeceased by father, Patrick; mother, Ellen; brother, Ambrose; and her sister, Thersa. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Bill (Joanne) of Badger, Frank (Krista) of Badger; daughter, Genevieve of Badger. Also leaving to mourn brothers, Gerald, Francis, Cyril, Jim; sisters, Debbie, Bride, Jean, Grace, Mary, Alice and Sheila; grandchildren, Madison, Dylan, Chloe, and Robyn. Father Eugene Morris conducted the funeral service at the Sacred Heart Parish on June 23. Internment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Foley, Frank Foley, Paul Foley, Rick Foley, Sam Huxter, and Gerald Pearce. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

FOSS, Raymond - Passed away June 26, 2009 after a lengthy illness at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Raymond Edward Foss. He was 70. Mr. Foss retired from his own business (Mechanical) in 1999. Predeceased by father, Frank Foss and mother, Margaret Foss. Leaving to mourn sisters, Marie Hart (Jerry), Joyce Foss, and Marilyn Warford (Perry); brothers, Ron Foss (Lona) and Gord Foss (Gwen); and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Major Dinzel Baggs conducted funeral services at the Salvation Army Citadel, Botwood, Nfld., Monday, June 29, 2009. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were by Paul Hoskins of Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were brothers, Ron Foss and Gord Foss, nephews, Ronald Foss Jr. and Greg Foss, best friend, Raymond Gill and brother-in-law, Perry Warford. Honorary pallbearer was Junior Budgell. Donations in Raymond's memory can be made to The Arthritis Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.

HIGDON, Selby Clarence - Passed peacefully away on June 10, 2009 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Selby Clarence Higdon at the age of 79. Mr. Higdon retired from construction in 1998 and was a member of the L.O.L. 203 and R.B. 1225. Predeceased by his parents, John and Emily Higdon; son, Edgar and three brothers. Left to mourn his wife, Mary of 60 years; son, Donald (Ruth); daughters, Madelene (Kevin) Small, Elizabeth (Sean) Robinson, Michelle (Ross) Thomas. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Millicent, Eva, and Sarah and brothers; Bill, Fred, Pleamon, Harry, Chesley and Daniel; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Elizabeth Stewart conducted funeral services from The First United Church, Caribou Rd., Grand Falls-Windsor on Saturday, June 13th at 2:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Harry Higdon, Pleamon Higdon, Fred Higdon, Daniel Higdon, Paul Seymour and Beaton Yates.

HILLIARD, George (Pastor) - Passed away at the Green Bay Health Centre, Springdale on June 29, 2009, Pastor George Hilliard of South Brook. He was 53 years of age. He was a pastor with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland and Labrador. Predeceased by his parents, George and Phoebe Hilliard; parents-in-law, Cyril and Lillian Antle. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Diane; son, Jonathan (Amy); daughters, Breanna, Isabelle (Dan) and two grandchildren, Noah and Mia Ketcheson. Also leaving to mourn are his siblings, Lizzie (Elizabeth) Carter, Robert (Bernice), Dorothy Anderson, Gertie (Joseph) Anderson, Marg (Cecil) Hale, Charlie (Frances) and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Jeffrey Elliott conducted funeral services at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, Bishop's Falls, Thursday, July 2, 2009. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Sunset Drive, Bishop's Falls. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Bishop's Falls. KEAN, Joseph Francis (Jan. 22, 1930 - June 23, 2009) - Passed away June 23, 2009 after a short illness at the Carmelite House, Joseph Francis Kean of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 79 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Ann Kean; sisters, Nellie, Margaret and Jane; brothers, Tom, Jim and John. Left to mourn his passing are nephews, Thomas (Eileen) Barry, Kevin (Alicia) Barry, Edward (Joan) Barry, Michael (Valerie) Barry and Frank Kelly; nieces, Sheila (Fred) Janes, Ann (Ed) Lyver, Carmel Barry, Madonna Dillon, Bernie Barry (Steadman), Helen Barry (Fred), Lizzie Maher, Delores Dooley, Geraldine Simms, Laura Kelly, Margaret (Martin) Parsons and other relatives and friends. Father William Houlahan will conduct the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Parish, Grand Falls-Windsor on June 25, 2009. Interment at St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. KIRBY, Lillian "Eileen" (Weir) - Passed away June 1, 2009 at the A.M. Guy Memorial Hospital, Buchans, Newfoundland, after a courageous battle with cancer, Eileen Kirby, aged 61 years. Predeceased by father Hubert Roberts; grandparents, Walter and Naomi Weir; brother-in-law, Maxwell Gushue. Left with fond and loving memories, husband, Donald; son, Dean (Dawn) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Donna (Darrell) Lambert of Grand Falls-Windsor, Paula (Reg White Jr.) of Buchans Jct. Also leaving to mourn, mother, Clemency Roberts of Buchans; sisters, Bonnie Gushue of Buchans, Marjorie (Bill) Wilcox of Buchans; grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Lambert, Chelsea and Riley Kirby and Olivia White and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place Wednesday, June 3 from St. John the Divine Anglican Church, Buchans. Inurnment was at Buchans Community Cemetery. LYVER, Agnes - Passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, on June 1, 2009, Agnes Lyver in her 100th year. Pre-deceased by her husband, Louis in 1989; son, Tony in 2004; and grandson, Louis in 1984. Left to mourn with loving memories are her sons, Louis (Yvonne) of Gander, Ed (Ann) of Grand Falls-Windsor, and Gerry (Theresa) of Bishop's Falls; daughters, Irene (Don) Osmond of Abbottsford, B.C., and Beatrice (Tom) Chisholm of Aldergrove, B.C.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral Mass was held on Friday at 11 a.m., from St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, Buchans. Internment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Buchans. Donations in Mrs. Lyver's memory can be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements entrusted through Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.

MALONEY, Roderick (Rodie) - It is with sadness that the families of the late Roderick (Rodie) Maloney announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, on June 26, 2009. He was 72 years of age. Predeceased by parents, Phillip and Elsie Maloney; brother, Terry; sister, Patricia and nephew, Jay. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife, Sandra; son, David (Maggie) of Ottawa, ON; daughters, Rhonda (Steve) Bragg of Grand Falls-Windsor, Colleen (Ed) Healey of London, ON and Kim (Doug) Simms of Grand Falls-Windsor; grandchildren, Vanessa (Jason) Short, Tara (Ricardo) Costa, Eddie Healey, Jason Maloney, Justin Maloney, Samantha Simms; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Angela and William Short; sisters, Margaret (James) O'Reilly, Betty (James) St. George; sister-in-law, Mac Maloney; brother-in-law, Dennis Barrett; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He retired from Abitibi Price in 1995, after 41 years and he loved spending time at his cabin. He was an honorary member of The Knights of Columbus and was also a member of The Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The funeral service took place Monday, June 29, 2009 from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Father Richard Salas officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Autism Society, South and Central Chapter. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor.

MANSHIP, Anna (Bouzane)-July 27, 1930-June 3, 2009-It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Anna Bernadette (Bouzane) Manship of Camden Park Terrace, Moncton, on June 3, 2009, at the age of 78. Born in Little Bay, N.D.B., Anna grew up in Bishop's Falls. She was the daughter of the late Catherine (Philpott) and Bernard Bouzane. Anna was a Registered Nurse and worked at the Moncton Hospital for most of her long career. She had a great thirst for knowledge and a love of books and enjoyed debating a wide range of topics. She will be deeply missed by her sons, Jon (Leslie) of Moncton and Robert of Halifax, N.S. She is also survived by her siblings, Theresa Cooke, Bishop's Falls, Helena McDonald, Bishop's Falls, Margaret Penton, Gander, Lillian Bouzane, St. John's, Florence Petro, Springfield, IL, U.S.A. and Jim Bouzane (Geraldine), St. John's, and their families. Anna was very proud of and dearly loved her two grandchildren, Alexandra and Chloe. She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell in 1992. Memorial donations may be made to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, Cardiac Care Unit, 135 Macbeath Ave., Moncton, N.B. E1C 6Z8.

MARSHALL-WATSON, Mary - (June 4, 1930-June 5, 2009)-Mary was born in Dunoon, Scotland to John and Mary Grieve on June 4, 1930. On October 25, 1950 she married Alexander Marshall and together had two daughters. One child died in infancy and the other passed away suddenly at the age of 38. After the death of her first husband, Mary married Walter Watson and moved to Quebec and later Ontario. Mary was an accountant by profession and was head of a construction company for many years. She was forced to take an early retirement after an accident at work left her disabled. After the death of her second husband, she met Robert and Greta Mills and was cared for by them for the past number of years. For a brief period, Mary lived in the Golden Years Estates Seniors Home before being hospitalized in 2008. Just one week ago she was transferred to the Carmelite House where she passed peacefully away on June 5, 2009. Mary has no living relatives. The only family were her friends here. She will be remembered for her wit and sense of humour by all who associated with her. Predeceased by parents, John and Mary Grieve; brothers, Alex and William Grieve; husbands, Alexander Marshall and Walter Watson; daughters, Baby and Ann Watson. Pastor Fraser Roberts conducted funeral services at Hoskins Funeral Homes, Botwood on Sunday, June 7, 2009. Interment at the Jubilee Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Mills, Ivan Belbin, Alfred Ollerhead, Ted Mills, Ron Foss and Jeremy Canning. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Botwood.

MATTHEWS, Mary Frances (Carey)-Passed peacefully away Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Chancellor Park, St. John's, Mary Matthews at the age of 93. Mary was born in Fortune Harbour, NL and graduated from Memorial College in 1932. She taught school in Buchans, Bishop's Falls and Grand Falls-Windsor. Predeceased by husband Gerald, parents Thomas and Margaret Carey, son-in-law Charles Lewis, four brothers and three sisters. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her daughters Sheila Lewis, Betty (Don) Wright, Margaret (Fred) Carter, and son Robert, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mary was a life member of the CWL as well as the Exploits Valley Senior Citizens' Club. Funeral service took place from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Monday, June 8, 2009. Pallbearers were Bill Crawley, John Hamilton, Bob Lewis, Ron Southcott, Leo Murphy and Jed Sullivan, all members of the Knights of Columbus, Notre Dame Council # 2053. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

MILLER, Howard - Passed away in the presence of his family, Howard Miller, at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, aged 78. He is predeceased by his parents, Colin and Delilah Miller. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are; his wife, Vera; sons, Bruce (Ruth) of Ottawa, ON, Wayne (Debbie) of Ottawa, ON, Glenn (Susan) of Ottawa, ON, and Trevor (Tina) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Linda (Junior) Downey of Grand Falls-Windsor, and Jennifer Miller of Grand Falls-Windsor; grandchildren, Melanie and Chad Downey, Brandi Tweed, Austin Miller, and Jayden Miller; brother, Ken (Judy) Miller of Grand Falls-Windsor; sister, Mildred (Reg) Earle of Grand Falls-Windsor. The funeral service took place, June 24, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Holy Trinity Anglican Church with Reverend Randy Lockyer officiating. Visitation took place Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor. In Lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Holy Trinity Anglican Building Fund or The Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care, Grand Falls-Windsor Dialysis Unit. Pallbearers: Trevor Miller, Bruce Miller, Glenn Miller, Wayne Miller, Clarence Brown, and Junior Downey. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

STUCKLESS-PHILPOTT, Violet Effie (July 1, 1931 - June 13, 2009) - Passed away on June 13, 2009 after a lengthly illness, surrounded by her family, Violet Effie Stuckless-Philpott of Point Leamington. She was 77 years of age. Predeceased by her parents, William and Marie White; husband, Harris Stuckless; and granddaughter, Erin Stuckless. Left to mourn are husband, Winston Philpott; son, Derrick (Lynda Mckinnon); daughter, Katheryn (Robert Sampson); four grandchildren, Sherri-Lynn, Shane, Victoria and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cameron and Amber. Also leaving to mourn her sisters, Hazel, Bernice, Annie, Flossie, Jacqueline, Iris, Madonna, Valetta, Joan, Starleene; brother, Oral and special friend, Effie Woodworth along with a large circle of family and friends. Pastor William Bowers conducted funeral services at Pentecostal Church, Point Leamington on Monday June 15, 2009. Internment took place at the Pentecostal Cemetery in Point Leamington. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home Botwood. Pallbearers were Starlene Stuckless, Joan Hoskins, Valetta King, Jacqueline Sceviour, Flossie Peddle, Madonna Forcey. Honorary pallbearer was Oral White.

THOMPSON, Thurl Whycliff - Passed peacefully away June 26, 2009 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Centre, Botwood, Newfoundland, Thurl Thompson at the age of 89 years. Mr. Thompson retired from Abitibi-Price in 1982 and was a member of LOL 71, the last of the railroaders, and a veteran of the Second World War. Predeceased by parents, William and Annie Thompson; brothers, Bram and Harry Thompson. Left to mourn are wife, Gertrude; sons, Wesley (wife, Ida) of Botwood, NL; Neil (wife, Kay) of Botwood, NL; and David (wife, Debbie) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; daughter, Ruth (husband, George Williams) of Zealand, N.B. Also leaving to mourn sister, Trixie (Harry Bartlett); 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Granddaughter, Major Darlene Masters conducted funeral services at the Salvation Army Citadel, Botwood on June 30, 2009. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were grandsons, Darren Thompson, Dean Thompson, Michael Williams, Danny Thompson, Darryl Thompson and Deon Thompson. Honorary pallbearer was grandson, Derrick Thompson.

WAYE, Norma Marie - Passed away suddenly at home June 11, 2009, Norma Marie Waye of Bishop's Falls. She was 58. Predeceased by parents, Gertrude and Warrick Noseworthy; sister, Effie Snow. Lefty to mourn are husband, Gerald Waye; son, Dean (Jamie) of Bishop's Falls; daughter, Rhonda (Jason Jenkins) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Emily Gill, Maxine (Martin) Sheppard, Jean (Harold) Pearcey, Shirley Oxford, Marion Pelley (Neil), Ruby (Lyle) Fissel, Mary (Terry) Buckley and Frances (Ian) Hendry; brothers, Warrick Noseworthy Jr., Robert (Heather) Noseworthy; two grandchildren, Emma and Nathan and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Ray Martin and Rev. Munden Way conducted funeral services at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Bishop's Falls, Wednesday, June 17, 2009. WHIFFEN, Martin Leo - Passed away June 10, 2009 Martin Leo Whiffen at the age of 82 years. Mr. Whiffen retired from Abitibi Bowaters and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 49 and 12, served as past-president of the Knights of Columbus also served overseas with 166 Artillery Regiment. Predeceased by wife, Vivian; sons, Gerard and Martin John; three sisters; seven brothers and one son-in-law. Left to mourn are sons; Francis (Linda), Kevin, Adrian (Charlotte), Mark (Jackie), daughters; Veronica, Lucy (Sam) Pitcher, Nancy (Danny) Devine); step-daughter, Verna (Tom) Walsh; daughter-in-law, Bonite. Also leaving to mourn one sister Annie Turpin, two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, 21 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Father William Houlahan conducted the funeral services at St. Joseph's R.C. Parish on Saturday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers were Kevin, Francis, Adrian, Mark, Jim and Martin Whiffen. Honorary pallbearers Barry Murphy and AJ Whiffen.
