BAILEY, Robert - Passed peacefully away on June 30, 2008 at his residence in Bishop's Falls, Robert Bailey. He was 85 years of age. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Ester; two sons, Johnny, Ernest; one great-grandchild, Hayley; son-in-law, Franklin Manuel. Left to mourn are his wife, Flora; son, Ralph (Alma); daughter, Betty Manuel, all from Bishop's Falls. Also leaving to mourn is one foster child, Rosalind Hancott; five grandchildren, Nicole, Fern, Chad, Tony, Tim; nine great-grandchildren, Brooke, Tara-Leigh, Stephen, Alana, Brent, Lane, Luke, April, Shane; two great-great-grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah and a large circle of other relatives and friends. They have also been foster parents to over 300 children in the past 48 years. Pastor J.E. White conducted the funeral service from Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, Bishop's Falls on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Sunset Drive, Bishop's Falls. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop's Falls. Pallbearers were Reg Ellis, Verd Ellis, Darren Reid, Onslow Balsom, Gerald Ellis and Bert Luff.

BROPHY, William Patrick (1938–2008) – It is with an overwhelming sense of sadness and loss that we announce the sudden passing of William Brophy of Grand Falls-Windsor at the Health Sciences Centre on June 22, 2008 at the age of 70. Bill was predeceased by his father, Leo Sr. and mother, Johanna. He retired from the Motor Registration in Grand Falls-Windsor 15 years ago. He was a very kind, generous and caring husband and father. Bill was a member of the Bishop’s Falls Knights of Columbus and a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. He loved Grand Falls and all things outdoors. He loved working with wood and tools and was always keen to take on any project. He will be sadly missed by all, especially his family, wife, Ursula, daughter, Pauline and son, Michael (Adelia), as well as his brothers, Kevin, Leo (Mary), Derm (Patsy); sisters, Josephine Alyward (Raymond), Angela Byrne, Sister Mary Brophy; his in-laws on the Furey side as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and many, many friends. The funeral service was held at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 25, 2008. The pallbearers were Ed Connolly, Scott Gillingham, Eli Jerrett, Sean Kelly, Jack Paddick, Lloyd Macintyre, Gary Parsons and Roy Pynn. Donations may be made in his memory to the Lung Association.

BUDGELL, Margaret Lillian – Passed peacefully away on June 10, 2008 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, Margaret Lillian Budgell of Botwood. She was 78 years old. Predeceased by parents, Ethel and William Pelley; brothers, Stan, Phillip, Fred, Ron, Howard (Georgina); sister, Stella (John Stride). Left to mourn are husband, George; sons, Tony (Gail), Shon; daughters, Marlene (Wayne Dean), Debbie (Jerry Fudge), Connie (Wilbert Chayter). Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Voilet Clarke, Effie (Mark Curlew), Daisy (Douglas Gosse); brothers, Charles (Winnie) Pelley, Wilfred (Annetta) Pelley; sisters-in-law, Hazel Pelley, Jane Pelley; 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Major D. Baggs conducted funeral services from Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Botwood. BURRY, Muriel Ida — It is with great sadness that the family of the late Muriel Burry announce the passing of their loving mother at the Colchester Hospital in Truro, NS on June 4, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Born in Cottrell’s Cove, NL, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Fannie Boone. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Randolph Burry. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are her son, Donald Burry (Ann Kee) of Moncton, NB, daughter, Neitah Burry-McCrindle of Halifax, NS; grandsons, Tyler Burry (Maria Berrena) of Windsor, ON, Jonathan McCrindle (Marriam Aboli El-Haj) of Halifax, NS; granddaughter, Deliah Burry of Vancouver, BC and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation took place Friday, June 13, 2008 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Grace United Church, Cottrell’s Cove, The funeral took place on June 14, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Linda Burt officiating. Interment was at the Grace United Church cemetery. In her memory donations may be made to the cemetery fund of the Cottrell’s Cove United Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home.

CAMPBELL, Carson Joseph – Passed peacefully away June 1, 2008, Carson Joseph Campbell (retired Major) at his residence in Botwood. He was 58 years of age. Mr. Campbell retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1990 and was a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. Predeceased by father, John Campbell and brother, Donny Campbell. Left to mourn mother, Viola Campbell; wife, Gwen Campbell; son David of Ottawa, Ontario; daughters, Christine (husband, Frank Lacourciere) of Oshawa, Ontario; Sandy of Ottawa, Ontario. Also leaving to mourn sister, Alma Critchley (George); one grandchild, Alex; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Linus Coady conducted funeral services at St. John the Baptist Church, Botwood, June 4, 2008. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. CAREY, John (Jack) Thomas – Passed peacefully away at home on June 23, 2008, John (Jack) Thomas Carey of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 75 years of age. Mr. Carey was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree). Predeceased by father, William T. Carey, mother, Pearl Callahan; brother, Robert (Bob) Carey Jr., sister, Rosanne. Left to mourn are wife, Anne Marie Carey; brothers, Lawrence (late June Carey), William (Bill) (wife, Rosalind), Michael (wife, Tina), Charlie (wife, Shirley), Gord (wife, Kathleen); sisters, Patricia, Marie, Cecila (husband, Jesse), Rosie (husband, Kirk), Bertha (husband, Rick). COOPER, Donald – It is with great sadness the family of Donald Cooper announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Heath Centre Tuesday June 17, 2008, age 59. He was predeceased by father, Samuel and sister, June. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories mother, Pearl; sisters, Marion (Bernard) Pinsent of Bellevue, Kathryn (Robert) Snow of Ontario; nephews, Sam, Richard, Frank, Robert and David; nieces, Catherine and Cindy. Visitation took place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 19. The funeral service took place Friday, June 20 at 2 p.m. from the Salvation Army Park Street Citadel with Maj. Sandra Stokes officiating. Interment was at the Salvation Army cemetery on Caribou Rd. Pallbearers were Richard Pinsent, Sam Mehaney, Ray Noble, Roy Cramm, Tony Nicholas. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

DAVIS, Margaret Marie – Margaret Davis, July 10, 1945 - June 2, 2008, passed away at home in Tweed, ON after a lengthy illness. A service will be held for Marg at St. Joseph’s Church on Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic cemetery. Margaret is the daughter of Harold and Nora Davis (predeceased); wife to Leonard Whiffen Jr. (predeceased) and their son James ‘Bo’ (predeceased). Left to mourn are children, Joseph (Gert); granddaughter, Crystal, who gave birth to Marg’s first great-grandchild Sara Margaret on July 31; and grandson, Jessie; Marg’s son, Harold and daughter Diane; grandchildren Stacy and Michelle; brothers, Leo and Herbert; sister, Theresa and her children, James, Donald, Kenny and Samantha; sister, Betty (husband Dennis Snow) and their children Jacqueline, Peter, Kevin and Joanna; sister Donna (Larry); cousins Ed and Ann Davis, Sylvia and Wilson Price and their children and families; great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

DAWE, Gordon Samuel – Passed away June 20, 2008, after a lengthy illness, Gordon Samuel Dawe at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s. He was 55 years of age. Mr. Dawe retired from Superior Propane in 2007. Predeceased by father, Reuben Dawe and mother, Violet Dawe. Left to mourn are wife, Rhonda; sons, Jason (wife Leigh-Anne) of Bishop’s Falls; Gregory of Bishop’s Falls; daughter, Emma of Bishop’s Falls; one grandson, Kalen. EARLE, Emma Woodrow – Passed peacefully away on June 26, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Emma Earle of Bishop’s Falls. She was 75 years of age. Mrs. Earle was an active member of the Salvation Army Home League and League of Mercy. Predeceased by parents, Isaac and Jennie Earle; sister, Fannie Temple; brother, Lloyd Earle. Left to mourn her passing are husband, Robert (Bill); son, Robert (Karen); daughters, Marion (Woodrow Welsh), Sandra (Hubert Sutton), Kathy (Paul Rideout), Margie; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, Robert, Robynn, Myranda, Alan, Ashley, April; one great-granddaughter, Jessica and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Majors Don and Karen Feltham conducted the funeral service from the Salvation Army Citadel in Bishop’s Falls, Sunday, June 29, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Bishop’s Falls. EASTMAN, Violet (1918–2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Violet Eastman announce her passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 8, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Violet is predeceased by husband Harry Eastman; daughters, Jean Phair and Margaret Clarke. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sister, Marie Collins of Toronto, Ont.; three grandsons, Brian, Brad and Barry, all of Toronto, Ontario. Captains Morris and Wanda Vincent conducted the funeral service at Central Funeral Home’s Chapel on June 10, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Ron Reid, Bill Brace, Jack Rice, Jack Stanley, Ron Mosher, David Maidment. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mike Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.

HAGGETT, Levina – Passed peacefully away June 18, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Levina Rowena Haggett of Glover’s Harbour. She was 58 years of age. Ms. Hagget was a member of the Salvation Army Home League and the licensed Lay Ministers Association. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey; parents, Obediah and Minnie Marsh. Left to mourn are her sons, Pleamen (Gina), Peter (Tammy), Russell (Joanie); daughter, Betty (Cathy); sisters, Margaret and Irene; brothers, John, Walt, Harry, Reg; five grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. David Coffin conducted funeral services from St. Nicholas Anglican Church in Leading Tickles on Saturday, June 21. Interment was at the Anglican Church cemetery in Bear Cove. KELLY, Karen – Passed peacefully away on June 20, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Karen Cavelle Kelly of Bishop’s Falls. She was 52 years of age. Predeceased by her parents, Rhoda (Rice) Oates and Obediah Regular; sister, Vera Ellsworth; father-in-law, Edward Kelly; brothers-in-law, Albert and Dan Kelly, George Sheppard. Left to mourn are her husband, Sean; daughter, Karen; granddaughter, Chloe. KIRBY, Virtue – It is with great sadness the family of the late Virtue Kirby announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 17, 2008 at the age of 69 years. Predeceased by parents, Stephen and Bridget Huxter; husbands, Cecil Cooper and Cliff Kirby; infant daughter, Margaret Marie; sister, Gertrude Noel; brothers, Ray and Harold Huxter. LEE, Mildred “Maureen” – Passed away June 18, 2008 after a lengthy illness at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Center in Botwood, Mildred “Maureen” Lee. She was 58 years of age. Ms. Lee retired from the Dr. Hugh Twomey Centre in 1992. She was predeceased by her father, Reginald Gillingham. Left to mourn are her husband, Reg; mother, Mildred Gillingham; son, Jason (Kelly) of Ottawa, Ont; daughter, Jennifer (Jeff Vincent) of Paradise, NL; sisters, Pearl (Eric), Ruby (Kevin), Florence (Randy), Verbena (Bruce), Barbara (Rob); brother, Samuel (Doreen); four grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Roberts conducted funeral services from the Jubilee Pentecostal Temple on Friday, June 20. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery in Botwood. MARSH, Josephine - Passed away June 2, 2008 after a lengthy illness, Josephine Marsh at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. She was 75 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Levi; parents, Caroline and John Noseworthy; five sisters and three brothers. Left to mourn are her son, Brendan (Grace) of Aurora, ON; daughters, Mona (Blair Ellis) of Saint John, NB, Penny of Grand Falls-Windsor; sisters, Marjorie Loveman of Leading Tickles, Gladys Warren of Brighton, ON, Minnie Heath of Grand Falls-Windsor; brother, Alex (Louise Noseworthy) of Leading Tickles; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend David Coffin conducted a service of family prayers from St. Nicholas Anglican Church in Leading Tickles on Thursday, June 5, 2008. PARSONS, Ronald R. – Passed peacefully away June 27, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Ronald R. Parsons. He was 77. Mr. Parsons retired from Abitibi-Price in 1993. Predeceased by wife, Loretta. Left to mourn are sons, Henry (wife, Geraldine) of Phillip’s Head, Jamie (wife, Sonya) of Fairview, Alta., Peter (wife, Sheila) of Fairview, Alta., Cecil (wife, Shelley) of St. Alban’s; daughters, Wavey (husband, Allister) of Lewisporte, Flossie (husband, Raymond) of Lewisporte, Exie (husband, Calvin) of Leading Tickles, Betty (husband, Kim) of Musgravetown, Rhonda (husband, Michael) of Lewisporte. PENTON, Stephen H. – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stephen J. Penton announce his passing at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Thursday, June 5, 2008, aged 60 years. Predeceased by his father, Alan Penton and infant daughter. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his girlfriend, Evelyn Kelly; daughters, Tamara (Troy Manuel) of Grand Falls-Windsor and Tracy of Toronto; son, Matthew McDonald of Grand Falls-Windsor; mother, Anne Penton of Grand Falls-Windsor; sisters, Nellie Cummins (Robert), Anne Evans (Winston), Joan Murphy (Anthony); brothers, Michael (Jackie), Alan (Gloria) and Roger Penton; special friends, Dick and Barb Davis, Lionel and Linda Kelland, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral service took place on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Station Road, Grand Falls-Windsor with Father Linus Coady officiating. QUIGLEY, Donald P. (August 15, 1925–June 5, 2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald Quigley announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 5, 2008 at the age of 82. Predeceased by parents, John and Cecilia Quigley; brothers, Gerald, Cliff and Claude; and sister, Mae Brown. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, May (nee Bragg); son, Don (Judith) Quigley of England; and daughter Raye (Gordon) McDonald of Bishop’s Falls; grandchildren, Seamus Quigley and Patrick Quigley of England. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Louise Sullivan, Eleanor Janes, Helen Gollisch, Jean (Victor) Trottman; brother, Bob (Pat) Quigley; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. RALPH, Randy George – Passed away suddenly June 6, 2008, Randy George Ralph of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 52. Mr. Ralph was employed with Nfld. Hydro for more than 30 years. Predeceased by grandparents; his uncle, Harold Ralph. Left to mourn wife, Olivia; sons, Navarro of Bracebridge, Ontario, Brandon of Fort McMurray, Alberta; daughter, Andrea of Grand Falls-Windsor; parents, Rita and Francis Ralph of Sop’s Arm. ROWSELL, May (1923–2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late May Rowsell announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on June 21, 2008 at the age of 84 years. May was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army and The Home League. Predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Amelia Groves of Bonavista; sisters, Margaret (Arthur) Wells, Maude (Herman) Raymond, Jessie (Chesley) Cornick and Dora (Cyril) Day; brothers, Norman Groves, Wallace Groves, Wilfred Groves, Frederick Groves and Robert Groves. Left with fond and loving memories are Ralph, her husband of 60 years; son, Fred (Brenda) of Grand Falls-Windsor; granddaughters, Nicole (Neil) McHugh of Chicago, Ill, U.S.A., Karyn Rowsell (friend, Tim Smith) of Bangkok, Thailand, Janice Rowsell (fiancé, Mark Kennedy) of St. John’s, Michelle Rowsell (Byron Clarke) of St. John’s; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Captains Morris and Wanda Vincent conducted the funeral at the Salvation Army Citadel on Monday, June 23, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walwyn Blackmore, Bob Bradbury, Frank Critch, Mark Kennedy, Ron Rowsell and Gary Wall. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

THOMAS, Ross Wesley – Passed away June 26, 2008 at Toronto General Hospital after a lengthy illness, Ross Wesley Thomas. He was 59 years of age. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Kinsmen, Masons and Rotary Club. Predeceased by parents, Eric and Lily Thomas. Left to mourn are wife, Lois; son, Kris (wife, Jessica {Reid}) of Labrador City; daughter, April (husband, Jamie Schmerer) of Permbroke, Bermuda. Also leaving to mourn sisters Frona White, Jane Walsh; brother, Basil Thomas; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Maj. Sandra Stokes conducted funeral services at the Salvation Citadel in Grand Falls-Windsor, Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Caribou Road, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge, Ross Granter, Louis Alteen, John Matthews, Gary Burgess, Ken Miller and Otto Ryan.
