ARNOLD, Francis – It is with great sadness the family of Francis Arnold announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on July 24 at age 72 years. Predeceased by his parents Douglas and Bridget Arnold; brother Raymond; sister Joan. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are wife, Joyce; sons, Paul (Yvonne) of Birchy Bay, Wayne (Golda) of Too Good Arm, Sean of Grand Falls-Windsor, Brian (Sheila) of Murinville, Alta. and Darren (Lisa) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Glenys Janes (Roger) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Gail Benson (Edward) of Bishop’s Falls and Tina Andre (Kevin) of Grand Falls-Windsor; brothers, Edward, Thomas and Douglas; sisters, Mary, Patricia and Ellen; 20 grandchildren; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation took place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. The funeral service took place from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 28 at 11 a.m. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery on Union Street in Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Paul, Wayne, Brian, Darren, Sean and Jordan Arnold. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Grand Falls-Windsor.

AUSTIN, Emma Gladys Marie — Passed peacefully away at the Central NL Regional Health Centre, Emma Gladys Marie Austin, of Grand Falls-Windsor. She was 61 years of age. Predeceased by her first husband, Freeman Austin; father, Edgar Gosse Sr.; brother, George; brother-in-law, Michael Dinn. Left to mourn are husband, Len Seymore; mother, Annie Gosse; son, Lloyd (Betty-Jean), Calgary, AB; daughters, Donna (Ed Murphy), Grand Falls-Windsor, Eileen (Conrad McDonald), Milltown, Tina (Mike Howse), Grand Falls-Windsor, and Tara (Jeff Bishop) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Ida, Linda (Jim) Cooke, Denise (Alan) Bishop; brothers, Edgar (Pearl), Lloyd (Inez), Gary (Judy), Derek (Marilyn), Robert (Rhonda), Terry (Linda), Paul (Lisa); sister-in-law, Esther; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Major Marie Hollett conducted the funeral service at the Park Street Citadel, Grand Falls-Windsor on Sunday, July 27 2008. Interment followed at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Caribou Road, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Lloyd Gosse, Gary Gosse, Derek Gosse, Bob Gosse, Terry Gosse and Paul Gosse. Honorary pallbearers were Edgar Gosse Jr., Chris Murphy, Ed Murphy and Lloyd Austin.

BLAKE, Thomas S. – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas S. Blake announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on July 16, 2008, at the age of 66. Predeceased by his parents, Bert and Flossie Blake; brother, Kenneth; sister, Clara. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are brothers, John (Bernice) and Jim (Vadine); sisters, Ann Chaulk and Mary Sheppard (Andrew); as well as a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation took place from Botwood Funeral Home Friday, July 18, 2008, Saturday, July 19, 2008 and Sunday, July 20, 2008. The funeral service took place from the Salvation Army Citadel in Peterview Monday, July 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Maj. Kean officiating. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Peterview. Pallbearers were John Blake, Martin Burt, Edgar Blake, Eric Samson. Honorary pallbearers were Derrick Sheppard and Andrew Sheppard. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home.

BRAGG Peter Sanford - Passed suddenly away on July 7, 2008 at Thunder Brook, Peter Sanford Bragg of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 42 years of age. Mr. Bragg was an employee of Abitibi-Bowater and a member of CEP Local 88. Left to mourn are his wife, Colleen; sons, Jeffrey and Tyler; parents, Edgar and Ruby; parents-in-law, Caroline and Jim Houlahan. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Dolly (Bruce Lane), Diane (Terry Healey); brothers, Steve (Rhonda), Malcolm (Sadie), Charlie (Sandy); sisters-in-law, Maureen (Lewis Bailey), Cathy (Trevor Wicks), Margaret (Glen McIsaac); brother-in-law, Chris (Joanne) and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Donn conducted the funeral service at St. Joseph’s Parish, Grand Falls-Windsor, Friday, July 11, 2008. Interment was at the St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Malcolm Bragg, Steve Bragg, Charlie Bragg, Chris Houlahan, Derrick Forsey, Rodney Stagg. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Healey and Scott Noseworthy.

DAWE, Gordon Arthur – Passed away July 18, 2008 after a lengthy illness, Gordon Arthur Dawe of Botwood. He was 62. Left to mourn are his mother, Frances Dawe; special friend, Melita McMahon; sons, Gordon (wife, Joanna) of St. John’s, Steven of St. John’s and Tony of Ottawa, Ont. Also leaving to mourn brother, Randolph of Toronto; five grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Joan Antle conducted funeral services at St. James Anglican Church in Botwood, Monday, July 21, 2008. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were sons, Gordon, Steven, Tony; friends, Pleman Gosse, Fred Winters and Winfield Saunders.

DAY, Michael – It is with great sadness the family of the late Michael Day announces his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on July 29 at the age of 79. Predeceased by his wife, Annie; daughter, Elizabeth; parents John and Annie Day; brothers, Kevin and Patrick. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are his sons, John (Bonnie), Steve (Christine), Mike, Rob, Tom (Crystal), Lloyd (Sherry) and Bill (Michelle); daughters, Diane Budgell (Jim), Nancy Day, Rosemary Day, Cathy Day (Dwayne); brother, Walter; sisters, Margaret Kelly, Eileen Young (Curtis), Pauline Elliott (Owen); a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation took place from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Thursday, July 3. The funeral service took place from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Grand Falls-Windsor Friday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery on Main Street in Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor.

FLOOD, Joan – It is with regret and great sadness that the family of the late Joan Mary Flood (nee Russell) announce her sudden and very peaceful passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on July 17, 2008 at the age of 71. Predeceased by parents, Martin and Genevieve Russell; brother, Donald and wife, Madge; sisters-in-law, Barb Russell, Marie Burt, Elizabeth Flood and Isabelle Flood. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 50 years, Raymond; sons, Martin (Christine) of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., Christopher (Mary Ann) of Carberry, Man., Raymond (Karen) of Clarenville. Also leaving to mourn brother, Lewis (Sally) Russell, Dennis Russell (Helen Hutchcraft), Gerald (Heather) Russell; sister, Lorraine Russell: cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Madelyn, Matthew and Jessica Flood; and very special friend, Katie Rideout and family of Comfort Cove; brother-in-law, Ed (Nell) Flood, Francis (Georgina) Flood and Junior (Rose) Flood and a large circle of relatives and friends. Father David Joy conducted the Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Grand Falls-Windsor on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis Russell Jr., Derrick Harbin, Peter Russell, Jim McCarthy, Sturm Canning, Rodney Flood. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes. Donations in her memory to the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish Church Organ Fund.

HANNON KING, Ursula Eileen — It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ursula Eileen Hannon King announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre on July 22, 2008 at the age of 86. Left with fond and loving memories are her sons, William (Theresa) of Chelmsford, ON, Raymond (Wavey) of Bishop’s Falls, NL and Roger (Donna) of McKerrow, ON; daughters, Geraldine (Jim) of Bishop’s Falls, NL, Christine (James) of Ottawa, ON and Cheryl (Garry) of Red Deer, AB. Also leaving to mourn are her sisters, Gertie and Margaret; brother, Ronald; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Father Linus Coady conducted the funeral service at the Sacred Heart Church in Bishop’s Falls on Friday, July 25, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were John Thoms, Gus Keough, Wayne Kelley, Bill Pinsent, Roy Pelley and Ron Lahey, members of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Finn Council 5904. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

HARBIN, Victor George – Passed away July 31 peacefully Victor George Harbin at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook. He was 88. Mr. Harbin retired from the footwear business in 1985. Predeceased by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Left to mourn are Alma; sons, Wayne (Susan) of Burlington, Ont., Victor of Brampton, Ont., Derek (Roxanne) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Vaughn of Deer Lake, Albert of Wasaga Beach, Ont.; daughters Charlene (Tim Van Maren) of Wasaga Beach, Ont., Joy of Burlington, Ont.; brothers Harry (Ruby) of North Sydney. N.S.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a large circle of other friends and relatives. Pastor Geoff Slade conducted funeral services at Evangel Pentecostal Church in Grand Falls-Windsor Monday, Aug. 4. Interment was at the Pentecostal cemetery on Union Street in Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home (Grand Falls-Windsor). Pallbearers were Victor, Derek, Albert, Peter, Gregory and Andrew Harbin, James Lewis and Timothy Van Maren.

LANGDON, Howard Clarence – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Howard Clarence Langdon announce his passing at his home in Botwood on July 7, 2008, aged 80 years. Predeceased by his parents, Chesley and Mabel Langdon; brothers, Alan, Ray, Ward, Roy, Harvey and Ron; sister, Mildred Elliott. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are his wife, Lizzie (nee Thorne); daughter, Vina of Botwood; son, Don (Bernice); granddaughters, Nicole (Brad Jones) and Jackie of Mount Pearl; sisters, Rowena Siteman of Dartmouth, NS and June (Ross Stone) of Britannia, NL; as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Visitation took place from Botwood Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. The funeral service took place from the Salvation Army Citadel, Circular Road, Botwood, NL on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the community cemetery, Botwood. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of one’s choice. Pallbearers were Gerald Thorne, Art Langdon, Frank Clarke, Milton Samson, Everett Elliott and Brad Jones.

MENCHENTON Winnie E. - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Winnie E. Menchenton announce her passing at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Center in Botwood on July 7, 2008 at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles. Left with fond and loving memories are her sons, Roy (Jean) of Sandy Point, Cyril (Myrtle) of Tottenham, Ontario, Eric (Norma) of Pasadena, Reg (Mary) of Loretta, Ontario, Carl (Pat) of Calgary, Alberta and Wilson of Cambridge, Ontario; daughters, Betty (Brian) Ryan of St. John’s and Janet (Brian) of Botwood. Also leaving to mourn are her brother, Pastor Ivan Whitt; sister-in-law, Mary Whitt, 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Rev. Calvin Coates conducted the funeral service at the St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Norris Arm North on July 11, 2008. Interment was at the Norris Arm North Anglican Cemetery. Pallbearers were her sons, Roy Menchenton, Cyril Menchenton, Reg Menchenton, Eric Menchenton, Carl Menchenton and Wilson Menchenton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

MORRIS, George - It is with great sadness that the family of the late George Albert Morris announce his passing at the James Paton Memorial Hospital on July 3, 2008 at the age of 87. George was a member of Memorial United Church Men’s Choir, Masonic Lodge Northcliffe, Boy Scouts of Canada (life member), Officer of the Naval Reserve and RSCC Windsor Sea Cadets, Exploits Valley Amateur Radio Club (VOIMB), member of the Orange Lodge (Fortune), Past member of Central Newfoundland - Visual Art Society, Founding Member of Atlantic Chapter #4 Royal Arch Masons. George retired from Canadian National Telecommunications in 1980. Predeceased by mother Mary, father Berkley and sister Bessie. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Beulah, son, Derrick (Judy) of Kamloops, British Columbia and daughter, Melinda (David Anthony) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn are his grandchildren, Matthew Anthony, Amy Anthony, Angela Morris, Melissa Morris, Victoria Morris, sister, Mary Woolridge, nephews, David Woolridge and Frank Woolridge, his extended family and friends, especially the “Sunday Night Crowd”. Rev. Howard Crooks and Rev. Royden Reynolds conducted the funeral service at the Memorial United Church on Sunday, July 6, 2008. Interment was at the Interfaith Cemetery Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Frank Woolridge, David Woolridge, Steve Conrod, Peter Banfield, Bruce Rose and Derek Harbin. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Stoodley, Jasper Lake Roy Pynn, Ray Sellars, John Stacey and John Moore. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

PEARCE Elizabeth Mary (Pelley) - Passed suddenly away on July 7, 2008 in Port aux Basques, NL, Elizabeth Mary (Pelley) Pearce. She was 51 years of age. Predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Dexter Pelley. Left to mourn are husband, George Pearce; step-sons, George Jr. (Kristy), Edmonton, AB, Phillip, Calgary, AB; step-daughter, Beverly, Corner Brook, NL. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Gloria (Dave), Bonnie (Leo), Glenda (Dennis), Lynette and brothers, Dexter Jr. (Bonita), Walter (Brenda), 3 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor J.E. White conducted the funeral service at Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls on Thursday, July 10, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop’s Falls. Pallbearers were Leo Pritchett, David Pelley, Walter Pelley, Dennis Noble, Tom White, Phillip Pearce.

POWER, Pierce Joseph – It is with great sadness the family of the late Pierce Joseph Power announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on July 29 at the age of 73. Pierce was a member of the Knights of Columbus, with whom he was a Past Grand Knight, Past District Deputy and Treasurer. The Bishop appointed him to work with the Holy Childhood, St. Peter the Apostle and the propagation of the faith. He was a leader on the altar, a Eucharistic Minister, and taught students to be altar servers. At funerals he would be the cross bearer. On special occasions like the World Day of Prayer he would represent Father Linus Coady. He was a very spirited person. Pierce would often go to the sick to pray with them and encourage them to keep their faith. He was a very special person. Pierce retired from teaching in 1989. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Ellen Power. Left with fond and loving memories his wife, Joan of 37 years; daughters, Cathy (Sheldon Peyton) of Brantford, ON, Carla (Gary Cooper) of Botwood and Leigh of St. John’s. Also leaving to mourn his brothers, Joseph (Mary) and William (Rita); four grandchildren, Joshua, Samuel, Anthony and Damian; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Father Linus Coady conducted the funeral service at the Sacred Heart Church in Bishop’s Falls July 31. Pallbearers were Bill, Joe, Brian, Tom, Bill and Fabian Power. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bishop’s Falls. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes

ROBERTS, Harvey John – Passed peacefully away July 25, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Harvey John Roberts of Botwood. He was 83. Predeceased by brother, Nelson Roberts. Left to mourn are wife, Doris; son, Glenn (wife, Carol) of Botwood; daughters, Jean (husband, Lyndel Boyd) of Brampton, Ont.; Joan (husband, George (Jr.) Cramm) of Catalina; June Roberts (Aerial Noseworthy) of Leading Tickles, Judy (husband, Kevin Langdon) of Botwood, Doreen (husband, Cliff Hale) of Botwood. Also leaving to mourn sister, Eva Curlew; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor F. Roberts conducted funeral services at Jubilee Pentecostal Temple, Botwood on Monday, July 28, 2008. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were George (Jr.) Cramm, Kevin Langdon, Cliff Hale, Bradley Camm, Keith Langdon and Carla Clarke.

SHALLOW, Marie Frances (nee O’Keefe) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marie Frances Shallow (nee O’Keefe) announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on July 6, 2008 at the age of 84. Marie was a member of the Catholic Women’s League. Predeceased by her husband, Charles (1972); son-in-law, Patrick McHenry (2008); brothers, Cyril O’Keefe (1993) and Bernard O’Keefe (1998). Left with fond and loving memories are her sons, Paul (Sandra) of Marystown, NL, Michael of Marystown, NL, Charles (Jennifer) of Mount Pearl, NL, Christopher (Jackie) of Kamloops, BC, Gerard of St. John’s, NL, and John (Wanda) of St. John’s, NL; daughters, Lynn McHenry of Corner Brook, NL, Patricia Shallow of Quebec, PQ, Helen Leger (Roy) of Oakville, ON, Anne Kordyback (Vincent) of Vancouver, BC and Marie Shallow of Ottawa, ON. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Gertrude Delong and Anne O’Keefe in Nova Scotia, Rose Deighan and Monica McNeill of Prince Edward Island; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Fr. David Joy conducted the Funeral Mass at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Grand Falls-Windsor on July 9, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.
