It is with sadness the families of the late Samuel Allison Mercer announce his passing at his residence, aged 63 years. Samuel is predeceased by his parents, Eli and Janie May Mercer. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are: his wife, Marva; daughters, Teresa (Scott Simms) of Alberta, Jennifer Mercer of Alberta; grandchild, Kylee Simms; sister, Florence (Bruce) Regular of Botwood, NL; brother, Harry (Susan) of St. John's, NL; step-mother, Adeline, half-brothers, John (Vina), Jim and Tom (Gail); half-sisters, Jean (Ed), Jackie, and Janice (Wayne); as well as several nieces, nephews relatives and friends. BUDGELL, Diedre
Passed away on: 14/02/2011
Passed suddenly away on Feb. 14, 2011 at the Central NL Regional Health Care Centre, Deidre Geraldine Budgell of Bishop's Falls. She was 36 years of age. She was predeceased by her grandparents, George & Lilly Jeans and Garland & Ida Stuckless; father-in-law, Albert Budgell. Left to mourn are her husband, Tony; sons Dustin and Dylan; brother, Stephen (Renee); niece, Kristy. Also leaving to mourn are her parents, Pauline Stuckless, Terry Stuckless (Karen); mother-in-law, Ruth (Joe Walsh); brothers-in-law, Todd (Patricia), Keith (Gillian), Chad (Beverly); niece, Samantha; nephews, Joshua, Zachary, Hunter and Blake and a circle of other relatives and friends. Major Wycliffe Reid conducted funeral services at The Salvation Army Citadel, Bishop's Falls on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 with interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop's Falls. Pallbearers were Todd Budgell, Keith Budgell, Chad Budgell, Cory Pelley, Joshua Budgell and Zackary Budgell. BYRNE, Cathy
Catherine (Cathy) Lynn Alicia Byrne
, 42, was called home to God on February 16, 2011, surrounded by her beloved parents and family at the Palliative Care Unit in the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, Canada having lost a courageous battle to ovarian cancer. For the past two years Cathy has lived in Grand Falls, enjoying independent living in her "own" apartment. From 1996-2008, Cathy lovingly helped "raise" her niece and nephew in Indianapolis. While doing this wonderful job, she was an active volunteer in the Catholic communities of St. Luke, Immaculate Heart of Mary, and St. Joan of Arc. She helped in the cafeteria, classrooms, and preschool programs where she was appreciated and loved. She participated in "Mary's Way" at St. Luke and "CHRP" at IHM. She also volunteered her time to help teach figure skating for "Winter Club at the Pepsi Coliseum, as well as, help mentally and physically challenged students at Carmel and Pan Am Plaza. Cathy was active in Girl Scouts Canada, competed in ice-skating for the Special Olympics, winning a Gold medal, and most recently was honored on October 30, 2010 with the Newfoundland and Labrador Student of the Year Literacy Award. Cathy is survived by her parents, Donald & Phyllis Byrne, beloved sister, MaDonna (Andy) Wolf and brother Mike (Christine) Byrne, cherished nieces, Megan Wolf and Megan Parker and nephews, Zach Sosna and Aaron Parker, as well as, many aunts, uncles and cousins. All will miss her. Funeral services will be held on February 21, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cathy Byrne Memorial Scholarship Fund in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland at the College of the North Atlantic (709-292-5600) or to the Cathy Byrne Memorial Fund at St. Joan of Arc School, Indianapolis IN (317-283-1518).

CARROLL, Catherine
Passed away on: 06/02/2011
Passed away on Feb. 6, 2011 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood after a lengthy illness, Catherine Frances Carroll of Bishop's Falls. She was 81 years of age. Mrs. Carroll was a member of the RC Altar Society and 50-Plus Club of Bishop's Falls. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary; brothers Steve, Patrick, Frank; sister, Mary; sons, Charles and Stephen. Left to mourn her passing are husband, William; sons, Gerry (Christina), Sean (Debbie); daughters, Betty Ann (Gary), Cathy (John), Sandie (John), Margie (Todd); eight grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Josephine and Margaret; Charles' two children and Stephen's three children and a circle of other relatives and friends. Father Eugene Morris will conduct the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Parish, Bishop's Falls on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bishop's Falls. Funeral arrangements by Hoskins Funeral Homes, Bishop's Falls. Pallbearers are Gerry Carroll, Sean Carroll, Gary Hennessey, John King, Todd King and John Pretty.

COOPER, Evelyn
Major Evelyn Pearl Cooper
passed peacefully away at the Dr. Hugh Twoomey Health Care Centre, Botwood, NL surrounded by her loving husband and family on February 7, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Major Evelyn was 78 years old. Predeceased by her parents Dorman and Annie Stuckey and si8blings Flossie, George and Bill. Leaving to celebrate her life with fond memories are her devoted husband Major James Cooper; sons, James (Judy) of Labrador City, NL, Deon (Michelle) of Huntington Beach, CA, and Perry (Leslie) of Calgary, AB; daughters Trudy (Jim) Stuckless of Botwood, NL, Elizabeth (Fraser) Pike of Calgary, AB and Catherine (Steve) Larocque of Ottawa, ON; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place on February 10, 2011 at the Salvation Army Citatel in Twillingate, NL with Majors Colin and Jacaqueline Abbott officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army cemetary, Twillingate, NL. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Isles Funeral Home, Twillingate, NL. Major Evelyn served with her husband, Major James as an officer in the Salvation Army for over 40 years. Donations in her memory may be made to the South and Central Health Foundation.

DWYER, Bruce
It is with sadness that the families of the late Bruce Winston Dwyer announce his sudden passing at his residence in Peterview, NL, aged 79. Bruce is predeceased by his parents James and Rachel Dwyer; son Dale Dwyer; brother Jim Dwyer; and sister Beryl Dwyer. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Fannie; children, Edward (Dora), Eugene (Lisa), Jody (Wanda), Trudy, Darlene, Lorraine, Debbie, Deanna and John; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Angus, Roy, and Reginald; sisters, Joan and Laura; sister-in-law Joan; as well as a large number of nieces of nephews, relatives and friends. The visitation took place Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 7-9 pm, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 2-4 and 7-9 pm from Botwood Funeral Home, 147 Commonwealth Drive, Botwood, NL. The funeral service took place February 17, at 2 pm from The Salvation Army Citadel, Peterview, NL. The interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Peterview, NL. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home.

FRASER, James
James Alexander Cross Fraser
was born in Auchterflow, Scotland on March 14, 1924, the youngest child of William Cross and Margaret Fraser. In 1949 he immigrated to Newfoundland and married the late Helen (Nellie) Langdon, whom he met while she was vacationing in Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and three sisters. He leaves to mourn a daughter, Sheena (Eli) Blake of Leduc, Alberta; son Derek (Eileen) Quirpon, NL; 3 grandchildren, Matthew Blake, Elisha (Dallas McLaughlin) and Heather Fraser; 4 great grandchildren; also the Fraser, March, and the Elliott Families; as well as an even larger number of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place Thursday, February 10, 2010 at 7-9 pm, Friday, February 11, 2011 at 2-4 and 7-9 pm from Botwood Funeral Home. The funeral service took place February 12, 2011 at 2 pm from Trinity United Church, Botwood, NL with Reverend Stephen Barbour officiating. The interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Botwood, NL.

KELLY, Maude
Passed away on: 11/02/2011
Passed peacefully away, surrounded by family, at the Central NL Regional Health Care Centre on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, Lily Maude Kelly (nee Reid) of Grand Falls-Windsor. She was 87 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice; son, Terry; parents, Martin and Lucy Reid; sisters, Minnie, Elsie, Jane; brothers, Gordon, Freeman and Al. She will be sadly missed by her children, Sharon (Dave) Sam (Pauline), Shirley (Fred), Dorothy (Dennis), Bob (Gen), Tom (Della), Garry (Donna), Jacqueline. Also her grandchildren, Kelley (Craig), Kimberley (Clint), Paul (Christal), Susan (Lee), Mark (Jill), John (Melissa), Sacha, Jessica and Erica; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lily, Avery, Isabelle, Camryn and Alexis; brother, Don and a wide circle of other family and friends. Funeral mass by Father William Houlahan from St. Joseph's Parish with interment at the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Bob, Garry, Mark, Tom, Paul Kelly and John Shea. Honorary pallbearers, Sam Kelly and Shirley Shea. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation and Diabetic Association.

LAWRENCE, Frederick
Passed away on: 06/02/2011

, aged 78, passed peacefully away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on 6 February 2011 with his dear wife by his side. Predeceased by his brother Bill, brother-in-law David Goulding and sisters-in-law Joan and Anne. Leaving to celebrate his life with love and wonderful memories, his beloved wife Vera of 52 years, sons David (Gisèle), Douglas (Lisa), precious grand-daughters Megan, Talia and Ashley, brother Walter, sister-in-law Nancy Goulding, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many dear and caring friends and neighbours. Internment will take place at a later date. Donations in Fred's memory may be made to the Memorial United Church Building Fund or a charity of one's choice.

It is with sadness that the families of the late Elizabeth (Bessie) Ludlow announce her passing at the Carmelite Seniors Home, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, aged 92. Bessie is predeceased by her husband, James; daughters-in-law, Donna and Lorna. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are: sons, Kenneth (Grace) of St. John's NL, David of Ontario, and Keith (Estelle) of Ontario; brothers, James Yetman; sister-in-law, Bana; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Visitation took place Monday, Feb 28, 2011 at 2-4 and 7-9 pm from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. The funeral service took place, March 1, 2011 at 2 pm from the Park Street Salvation Army Citadel with Majors Owen and Sharon Rowsell officiating. The interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Caribou Rd. Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Donations in her memory may be made the Canadian National Institute of the Blind. McDONALD, David
Passed away on: 13/02/2011
Passed peacefully away at his residence on Feb. 13, 2011 after a short illness, David Patrick McDonald of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 54 years of age. He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Rose; brothers, Vince, Gerry, Dennis and Jim; sisters, Betty, Mary and Effie. Left to mourn his passing are his three children, David, Stephen and Amy; two grandchildren, Charlie and Tyler. Also leaving to mourn are his sisters, Jeanette (George), Doreen (Rick), Louise, Barbara, Cathy (Robert); brothers, Tony, John, Ray, Paul (Karen), Glen (Alice) and a circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass by Father Wm. Houlahan on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Homes, Grand Falls-Windsor. MICHAEL, Joseph

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph Michael McDonald announce his passing at The Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre on February 2, 2011 at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Joseph was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Kinsmen Club. Predeceased by parents; Michael and Mary McDonald, daughter Betty, brother Bil, sisters Helen and Marie. Left with fond and loving memories are; wife Bride,son John (Pauline) of Badger, daughters; Mary (Cliff) of Badger NL, Debbie (Gowen) of Sandy Cove, NL, Patsy (Randy) of Badger, NL, Helen (Frazer) of Badger, NL son-in-law Rick of Ontario. Also leaving to mourn; fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three brothers; Jack, Richard , Neil, one sister Elizabeth and a large circle of relatives and friends. PELLEY, Patricia
It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Ann Pelley (nee Higgins) announce her sudden passing, at home, on Febuary 16, 2011. Patricia was retired from the Central Newfoundland Regional Hospital where she worked as a Registered Laboratory Technologist. She is predeceased and has now gone to join ,in heaven, her beloved parents, James and Theresa; brother Ed; sister Theresa; brother in law, Hubert Deir and special friend Gloria Tremblett. Patricia will be sadly missed by her daughter, Dianna and son in law John Dolomount. "Nanny Pelley" will be forever loved, missed and remembered by her two special grandchildren, Abbey and Daniel, whom she loved and cherished. Also left to mourn her loss is long time companion, Lindsey Warren and his family;sisters Mary and Eileen; brothers Don(Joan), Pete (Peg), Patrick (Patsy), Jim (Clarice), Tom and sister in law Vicki. Lorraine is predeceased by her husband, Cornelius Pitcher; parents, Leo and Amelia Maddox; brothers, Mike, and Jim. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are: son, John, (Annette) of New Brunswick; daughter, Patricia (Glen) Pretty of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; grandchildren, Jordan, and Anthony; sisters, Catherine, and Monica; as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Melvin is predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Ploughman; brothers, Fred, and Arthur; sisters, Helen, Marie, Hazel, Leona, Evelyn, and Monnie. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Sylvia; daughter, Evelyn; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relative and friends. Loving husband of Sarah [Sally], wonderful father of Joanne [Ben Haas] and Jennifer and most cherished Papa of Samantha Haas. Beloved brother of Lorraine Russell of Grand Falls-Windsor and Gerald Russell [Heather] of Bishops Falls. Predeceased by parents Martin and Genevieve Russell of Grand Falls NFLD, siblings Don [Madge], Joan Flood, Denny [Barb] and brother-in-law Albert Winton. Loved brother-in-law of Ena Winton, George and Elma Winton of Edinburgh Scotland and Ray Flood of Grand Falls, NFLD. Dearly loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins and the finest group of friends anyone could hope for. Dad lived a great life filled with many magical moments, travels and tons of love and laughter. He retired from the TTC Plant/Electrical Dept in 1989 after 39 years serving as a subway Signal Maintainer and later as a Rail System Ultrasonic Technician . He was a good provider and good man and although he lost his valiant struggle with pulmonary fibrosis he left with dignity and grace. We wish to thank Dr. Avishay Perl, Dr. Mladin Kirigin, Dr. Barry Cutler, Dr. Barry Shulman, Dr. Lui Mavrogiannis and their teams, the wonderful caregivers at the Kingsway Retirement Home, Toronto CCAC staff as well as the caregivers and staff from Spectrum Nursing and Paramed Health Services and finally, the caring and loving staff and volunteers of the Dorothy Ley Hospice for their incredible end of life care of Dad and our family on his final journey. He lives on in all our hearts. A Service of Remembrance will be held today in Toronto. Em Dorothy TAYLOR, ( ROWSELL)
Em passed away peacefully at her residence, Jubilee Lodge, in Edmonton on February 21, 2011. She was born in Grand Falls until fate led her to meet Jim Taylor, who was stationed in Nfld. with the R.C.A.F during the war. Married on Sept 14th. 1944, and coming out west, they settled in Leduc Alta., One of Em's loves for over 40 years was the Girl Guides. She was also a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ill health in the last 2 years forced her into care facilities where her family saw to her comfort. Em was predeceased by her husband Jim and infant son Terry, as well as sisters Hazel, Lucy, brothers Gordon and Jack, father Albert and mother Clara May. Missing her very much are her sons Bill (Gail), Rob (Carol), and David (Kim); her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Edie (Gordon), brother Don (June); sister-in law Marg, brother-in-law Ray ; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A service was held on Wed., March 2, 2011 at the Edmonton Connelly-McKinley Chapel. Donations can be made in Em's memory to the Girl Guides of Canada-Alberta Council. THOMPSON, Dulcie

Passed peacefully away Feb. 25, 2011 at the Central NL Regional Health Care Centre, Dulcie O.M. Thompson of Bishop's Falls. She was 82 years of age. She was predeceased by husband Arthur Thompson; parents, Malcolm & Ivy Payne; sisters, Sadie Beck, Nellie Brace, Ann Gardner; brother-in-law, Jim Gardner; son-in-law, Rodger Warford; stepson-in-law, Don Rowsell. Left to mourn are sons, Eugene (Shirley), Terry (Grace), Dennis (Jane), Tony (Julia), John (Aggie), Rick (Denise); daughters, Barb, Betty, Peggy (Paul), Debbie, Diane (Frank). Also left to mourn are 34 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, known to each and everyone of them as Nanny Thompson. Also sisters Pauline (Johnny Pantano), Lillian (Melvin Brown) and Doreen Jones; brothers, George (Maxine), Lester (Evelyn); brother-in-law Ewart Brace; step-son, Ray Cooper (Jeanette); step-daughter, Jean Rowsell and a very large circle of family and friends. Pastor Shawn Bowers conducted funeral services at Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 with interment at the Pentecostal Cemetery. Pallbearers were her sons, Terry, Tony, John, Dennis, Rickie and brother Lester Payne.
