BLUNDON, Leonard - (Mar. 4, 1945–Dec. 9, 2008)–It is with great sadness that the families of the late Leonard F. Blundon announce his passing at his residence in Millertown, Nfld., aged 63 years. Predeceased by his father, Alfred Blundon. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are wife, Cecilia (Sis); sons, Christopher (Michelle) of St. John’s and Sheldon (Maxine) of Millertown; mother, Lillian; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral service took place Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Millertown Community Church with Rev. Coles officiating. Interment followed at the Millertown Cemetery. In his memory donations may be made to the Millertown Community Church fund. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor.

BUDGELL, Charlotte (née Seymore) October 17, 1921 - December 31, 2008 - It is with great sadness that the families of the late Charlotte Budgell announce her passing at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Center in Botwood, NL, aged 87 years. Predeceased by her husband, Edgar Budgell; son, Jerry Budgell; sisters, Eleanor Cramm, Sadie Charr, Nethia Pearce and Lucy Whitt; brothers, Max Seymore, Joe Tarrent, John Seymore and Lorne Seymore. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are; daughter, Anne (Lloyd) Burt; son, David (Evelyn) Budgell; grandchildren, Jessie (Ern) Bowers, Sadie (Larry) Foss, Clyde (Joan) Burt, Shawn (Valarie) Burt, Kelly (Ronald) Sheppard, Donna Burt, Beverley (Trevor) Blake, Shane Budgell and Robin (Jeff) Locking; great-grandchildren, Sheldon, Sarah, Shaunarae, Stephen, Renee, Kayla, Sonya, Stephanie, Brittany, Andrew and Melanie; great-great-grandchild, Camryn; sisters, Edith (Rex) Chaulk; brother, Leonard Seymore. The funeral Service took place, Saturday, January 3, 2008 at the Salvation Army Church in Peterview, NL. The interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Peterview, NL. Visitation took place Friday at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. from Botwood Funeral Home, Botwood, NL. Flowers kindly accepted as well. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society. BUDGELL, John - Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness at the Central NL Regional Health Care Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, John Gerard Budgell, Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 59 years of age. Mr. Budgell retired from the NL Liquor Corporation in 2006. Predeceased by parents, John and Mary (Molly) Budgell; infant brother, David. Left to mourn are his wife, Mary Budgell; son, John T. Budgell (Sara Pinsent), High Prairie, AB; daughter, Genevieve (Jody Gillard), Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Also leaving to mourn are his sister, Hannah Budgell; brothers, Richard (Ann-Marie) and William (Marie) and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father William Houlahan conducted the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Parish, Grand Falls-Windsor on Dec. 24, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Jocko Glavine, Matthew Glavine, David Glavine, Paul Glavine, Dr. Tom Poole and Gus Fudge.

BYRNE, Allison E. (nèe Hedges) - Passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on Dec. 21, 2008 surrounded by family members, Mrs. Allison Byrne, aged 80 years of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Predeceased by husband, Peter (Jan. 1, 2006); parents, Edward and Sarah Hedges; sisters, Geraldine (Les) Howell and Bernice (James) Peddle; brothers, Edward (Anne) and Sim (Betty); brother-in-laws, Jim and Jack Byrne; sisters-in-law, Bride Foley and Minnie Beaton. Left to mourn with precious memories are daughters, Beverley (Bert) Anstey of Calgary, Alberta, Bonnie (Darroch) Vokey of Carbonear, NL, Joanne (Sean) Hynes of Calgary Alberta; sons, Edward (Madeline) of Mount Pearl; Peter (Louise) of Pasadena, NL, Paul (Beda) of Okotoks, AB. Visitation will took place Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at 7 p.m.-9 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. CAREY, William Joseph (March 20, 1920 - December 18, 2008) It is with great sadness that the families of the late William J. Carey announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, aged 88. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Carey; brothers, James, John, and Father Michael Carey; sisters, Kathleen, Bridget, and Ellen; Left to mourn with fond loving memories are; wife, Mary of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughter, Deanne (Chris) Wooton of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; grandchildren, David and Nicole; sister, Mary Matthews of St. John’s NL; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral service will take place Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church with Father William Hearn officiating. Internment will take place at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. CONNOLLY, Edmund James (Ted) – Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s on Dec. 6, 2008, Edmund James (Ted) Connolly, age 80. Predeceased by his wife Margaret (2006), brothers, Bill, Jerry and Frank, and sister, Mary. Leaving to mourn his sisters, Margaret (Jim) Byrne, Madeline Insalaco, Newbury Port, U.S.A., Geraldine Haring, Joan (Tom) O’Reilly, and Maureen (Ray) Whalen; and brother Pat (Agnes), Brooklyn, NY. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends, as well as special neighbour, Tom Fagan of Grand Falls-Windsor. Ted loved the outdoors and was an avid salmon fisherman. He was a 4th Degree Knight(s) of Columbus and worked with CN until his retirement in 1984. He lived in Grand Falls-Windsor until May, 2006, when he moved to St. John’s. Special thanks to all of his caregivers in Grand Falls-Windsor and at Chancellor Park. Rested at Central Funeral Homes, Grand Falls-Windsor. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Grand Falls-Windsor. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

DAVIS, Gregory Luke Jr. - 1938 - 2008 – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gregory Luke Davis Jr. Announce his passing at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s on December 1, 2008 at the age of 70. Gregory was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he retired from CN Rail in 2003. He is predeceased by his mother, Margaret and father, Gregory Sr., brother, Brendon. Left with fond and loving memories are his loving wife of 50 years Florence (nee Cleary); sons, Greg (Sheila) of Bishop’s Falls, NL, Shannon of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dan (Cindy) of Paradise, NL, Brian (Carla) of Amherst, NS, Gord (Debbie) of Corner Brook, NL, Shane (Vanessa) of Brampton, ON; daughters, Mary Roberts (Dave) of Bishop’s Falls, NL, Brenda Mills (Paul) of Bishop’s Falls, NL, and Denise (Mike Hurley) of Bishop’s Falls, NL. Also leaving to mourn are 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Constance, Pat, Betty, Joan, and Paula; brothers, Terry and Gord, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Father Coady conducted the funeral service at the Sacred Heart Church on December 5, 2008. Interment will be at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bishop’s Falls. DROVER, Gwendolyn - Passed peacefully away on Dec. 28, 2008 at her residence in Grand Falls-Windsor, Gwendolyn Drover. She was 75 years of age. Predeceased by husband, Harvey Sr.; parents, George and Lucy White; brothers, Melvin, Cecil and Wilson. Left to mourn her passing are her son, Harvey (Buss) Drover (Anne); daughter, Kathy Jones (Alan). Also leaving to mourn sisters, Mardell Blackmore (Joe), Elsie Sparkes (Warren); brothers, Arthur (Maisie) White, Gary (Eileen) White, Clarence White, Donald (Ann) White, Eric White; six grandchildren, Rod (Margaret) Osmond, Rob (Karen) Brace, John Drover, Mark Brace, Jason Drover, Michelle (Mike) Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, A.J. FARR, John Benedict (1949 - 2008) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Benedict Farr announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center on December 16, 2008, at the age 59. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church. John is predeceased by his wife, Josephine Helen (Tubrett) Farr. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, John Farr of Grand Falls-Windsor and Jim Farr of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughter, Corrinne Farr of Clarenville. Also leaving to mourn are grandson, Johnny Cater, four brothers, three sisters and a large circle of family and friends. Father Richard Salas conducted the funeral mass at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception on December 20, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were brothers, Allan Farr, Harold Farr, Wayne Farr, and Pat Farr; friends, Harris Rowsell and Ron Cluney. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mike Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.

FORWARD, Amanda Laura - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Amanda Laura Forward of Corner Brook announces her sudden passing on December 18, 2008 at the age of 20 years, as the result of a tragic motor vehicle accident. Amanda was the loving daughter of Gail Langdon-Marche (Donny) and John Forward (Sandra); loving sister of Johnathan Forward (Shungu), and endearing granddaughter of Gower and June Langdon of Botwood and Lloyd and Shirley Forward of Halifax. Also left with fond memories are her stepsisters, Heather and Courtney Marche; stepbrother and sisters, Sonya, Jonathan and Sheila Gould, nephews, Dion and Josh; aunts and uncles; and a large circle of other family and friends in whose hearts she will live forever. Amanda was a lover of creatures great and small. She graduated from Regina High School, Corner Brook in 2006 and was pursuing a degree in biology at Memorial University with hopes of a career in animal science and care. The funeral service took place at First United, Park St. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Wayne Cole officiating. Interment followed at Mount Patricia Cemetery. HENNESSEY, Allan Peter – Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Hospice Renfrew in his 67 year, Allan Peter Hennessey of Petawawa, Ontario. Beloved husband of Judith Anne Hennessey (nee Hawkins), Loving father of Paula (Mike) Stefanich of North Bay. Dear brother of Leo and Tom of Nova Scotia, Ted and Paul Hennessey of Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. Predeceased by parents, Leo and Gertrude Hennessey (nee Edwards), by sister, Jean Perrin and by brother, Alphonsus Hennessey. Allan will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Allan left Grand Falls in 1962 to join the Canadian Guards Regiment Pipe and Drum Band. He participated in the annual changing of the guard ceremonies on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for many years as a drummer and drum major. After the Canadian Guards disbanded in 1970, Allan enlisted with Royal Canadian Regiment until 1995 when he retired from the Armed Forces in Petawawa. HISCOCK, Roy Anderson – (Nov. 17, 1924–Dec. 2, 2008) – It is with great sadness that the families of the late Roy Hiscock announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, aged 84. Predeceased by his parents, Ambrose and Elizabeth Hiscock; infant son, David; brother, Herbert; sister-in-law, Rose; son-in-law, John Power. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are wife, Delilah; children, Elizabeth, Robert (Marie), Kathryn (Aubrey Anderson); grandchildren, David, Matthew, Andrew and Emily; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral service took place Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Grand Falls-Windsor, with Rev. Randy Lockyer officiating. HOLLETT, Effie Barbara - Passed peacefully away Dec. 26, 2008, after a lengthy illness, Effie Barbara Hollett, with her daughter Barbara at her side, supported and comforted by Sister Fernand, who was with her till the end. Effie was born in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland on Oct. 13, 1919 to John and Mary Eastman. In the summer of 1937, Effie married Arthur Hollett and together they raised four sons and four daughters and suffered the loss of three other children, who sadly passed away as infants. Effie was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Eastman of Grand Falls-Windsor; husband, Arthur; three sons, David, John, William; two daughters, Edith and Jean; five brothers, Andrew and William Eastman of Ontario, Lewis, Clayton and Hubert Eastman of Grand Falls-Windsor; two sisters, Violet of Ontario and Carrie of Newfoundland. Left to mourn her passing are four daughters, Pearl (husband, Max Norris) of Eckville, Alta.; Ada Wilkinson of Ottawa, Ont.; Barbara George of Ponteix, Sask.; Hazel Sugg of SunRidge, Ont.; two sons, Arthur Hollett (wife, Carolyn) of Kingston, Ont., Munden Hollett of Linden, Alta.; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Effie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services took place from Lemieux Funeral Home, Ponteix, Sask, Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008. Internment followed at Ponteix Town Cemetery. JACKSON, Gordon James – Passed peacefully away on Dec. 3, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, surrounded by his loving family and welcomed into the arms of Jesus, Gordon James Jackson of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 82 years of age. Mr. Jackson retired from the family Blacksmith business in the late 60’s. Predeceased by wife, Laura; son, Terry; son-in-law, Wally. Left to mourn are sons, Gordon Jr., Tom (Lavina), Randy, Roger (Lori), Rodney (Paula); daughters, Patricia, Linda (Brian), Barbara (Dave), Colleen and Gale. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Queen, Pearl and Violet; brothers, Charles (Busher) (Fidalis), Dave (Junior) (Patricia); 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. JEWER, Elsie Marie - Passed peacefully away Jan. 17, 2009 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Elsie Marie Jewer. She was 90 years of age. Predeceased by husband, Douglas; parents, Wilfred and Dulcie Brett; infant son, Wilfred; son, Scott; daughter, Verbena Budgell; son-in-law, Cyril Hennessey; daughter-in-law, Eileen Jewer; three brothers and one sister. JEWER, Gordon Macdonald – Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer, Gordon Macdonald Jewer of Bell Island (formerly of Botwood) at the age of 60. Predeceased by his parents, Morley and Katie Jewer, father-in-law, Arthur Jackman; brothers-in-law, Doug and Cyril Jackman, sister-in-law, Loretta Jewer and nieces, Jillian Jewer and Allison Bennett. Leaving to mourn his loving wife and best friend, Mary; darling daughter, Karen (Tom) Murphy; precious son, Mark (Jo Ann), and the light of his life, granddaughter, Keziah Murphy. KEARLEY, Bessie May–Passed peacefully away Dec. 13, 2008, at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Bessie May Kearley of Bishop’s Falls. She was 82 years of age. Predeceased by parents Munden and Fannie Smith; husbands, Philip Luff and Arthur Kearley; granddaughter, Susan; brothers, Colin and Arthur; sister, Edna Picco. Left to mourn are sons, Roy of Bishop’s Falls, David of Bishop’s Falls; daughters, Gladys of Botwood; Edna (husband, Visay Prasad) of Bishop’s Falls and Dorothy (husband, Charles Abbott) of Pickering, Ont. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Fannie, Margaret (William), Winnie (Harold); brothers, Munden, George (Joanne), Harry; five grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor J.E. LANGDON, Bruce Duff - Passed away suddenly Dec. 21, 2008, at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre in Botwood, Bruce Duff Langdon of Northern Arm, at the age of 88. Mr. Langdon was a retired employee of the Dept. of Highways. Malcolm spent most of his life in Point Leamington and in September 2008, moved to Grand Falls-Windsor with his wife Ruby, to be closer to family. He worked as a fisherman, logger and finished his working career as a carpenter with A.S.A.R. Co. Mines in Buchans, Nfld. Predeceased by parents, Stephen and Ellen Sheppard; sisters, Mollie, Elsie, Bessie; brothers, Edgar and Wilson Sheppard. WHIFFEN, Pius Gerard – Passed peacefully away Dec. 7, 2008, Pius Gerard Whiffen at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 68 years of age. Predeceased by parents, Peter and Mary Whiffen; brothers, Patrick and Michael. Left to mourn are wife, Madonna Whiffen; son, William of Brampton, Ont.; daughter, Penny (husband, Robert McDonald) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn Priscilla (Pat) Mooney of Buchans and Shirley O’Reilly of Grand Falls-Windsor and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father William Houlahan conducted funeral services at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls-Windsor, Dec. 9, 2008. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were William Whiffen, Robert McDonald, David O’Reilly, Cory O’Reilly, Jim Whiffen and Tommy Whiffen.

WHITE, William Joseph (1925-2008) - Passed peacefully away on December 13, 2008, William Joseph White, age 83, at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Center. William is predeceased by parents Alexander and Bertha White, brother Raymond, sister-in-law Thelma, and sister Anna. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Catherine, sisters-in-law Bertha Hennessey, Theresa McCullough, and Mary O'Leary; brothers-in-law Gerard and Paul O'Leary, as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Father Richard Salas conducted the funeral mass on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dominic Lynch, Matt Grouchy, Dick Duder, Terry Murray, Jed Sullivan and John O'Reilly. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mike Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.

WOOLRIDGE, Edward Ronald - Passed away on Dec. 30, 2008 Edward Roland Woolridge of Botwood at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre. He was 70 years old. Predeceased by his parents, James and Agnes Woolridge; sisters, Shirley Winters and Jessie Woolridge. Left to mourn are sons, James Pope (Nicole) and Richard Pope; daughters, Agnes (Rick Antle), Patsy Vokey (Scott Kuczeryk), Mary (Daryl Loveman) and Sarah McDonald (Owen). Also leaving to mourn sister, Mary Boone and brother, Bill Woolridge and 12 grandchildren. Rev. David Coffin conducted the funeral services from St. James Anglican Church, Botwood on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. Interment followed at The United Church Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were Daryl Loveman, Jamie Crann, Darrin Boone, John Boone, Ricky Boone and James Pope.
