Babb, Mac (Maxwell Lorne)
Mac Babb, originally of Bell Island, NL, has passed away. A talented and entertaining
Newfoundland Musician who was beloved across Canada. Mac was an icon to those
who had the honour of being a part of those audiences. Thank you Mac, for
sharing your wonderful life. What a grand time!

Mayo, Henry Bertram
Rhodes Scholar, Professor Emeritus FRSC, after a long life of teaching in the
Universities he loved, recently died on January 15th,
2009.
He was born in 1911 in Fortune, NL. He is survived by his wife Jean and
four sons and his sister, Ruby M. of Vancouver, BC. Henry Bertram attended
Memorial, Dalhousie and the Oxford University in 1935 on a Rhodes Scholarship,
where he received his PhD in Political Science. He was a founding member
of the Canadian Assoc. of University Teachers and the first President of
the Canadian Political Science Assoc. In 1955 he published "Democracy
and Marxism",
and in 1960 "An Introduction to Democratic Theory". His books
became textbooks in many universities. H.B. was Fellow of the Royal Society
of Canada and taught in several universities in Canada and the US before
settling in Carleton University in Ottawa, where he also headed regional
government studies for Niagara and Ottawa-Carleton. As a Humanist he requested
cremation with no funeral.
Pardy, Harry Robert
July 16th, 1939 - March 9th, 2009
Harry passed away at the Whitehorse (Yukon) General Hospital after a 2 years
battle with cancer. Interment of ashes will take place in his home town of
Wild Cove, White Bay on August 15th, 2009. He will be laid to rest
with his parents, Caroline and Chesley Pardy. Harry is sadly missed by his
wife Bernice, daughter Cynthia Haggarty (Wayne), son Robert, granddaughter
Caroline, brother Curtis (Shirley) and a large number of other relatives and
friends.
Rowe, Johnny
Johnny Rowe has hung up his walking boots for the last time. On May
28th, 2009 Johnny passed away at age 80. A native Newfoundlander
born October 2nd, 1929, Johnny wore many titles throughout his lifetime;
speed-walker, heavyweight boxer, tireless volunteer, Olympic hopeful and auxiliary
police officer, to name a few. He will be fondly remembered by family, friends
and former colleagues.
