Donny Carter. My father deserves so much more than a simple harsh obituary, so I will try to put in words how we feel at this time. My mother couldn't have done any more for Dad, and he for her and us kids. He loved all his family so much. He had carved, by hand, a schooner for all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they will be cherished forever. His love of his birthplace, Greenspond, Newfoundland, and of his father's schooner, the JAMES U. THOMAS, was unsurpassed. My father had so many good friends that I can't even begin to mention them all. Anyone who ever met Dad, or Uncle Jim, as he was known to many, always walked away a better person and with a smile on their face. He taught us so much about how to treat others and to always be kind to animals. Just a few of my favourite sayings from Dad. "You don't demand respect, your earn it". "It's always better to give than receive" and "A still tongue keeps a wise head". As a young boy I'd wait to hear Dad's car pull in the drive and hear him whistling a song (usually Hank Williams). Oh, how he loved his music. He loved to play his harmonica on special occasions and would always be the life of the party. His quick smile and even quicker wit will be sadly missed. Good bye Dad, we love you. Keep'er off! Steady!

Memorials can be made in favor to the St. Stephen Anglican Church in Greenspond, Newfoundland.
