Bay Roberts -
Menchions - Mercer Wedding

A Quiet but pretty wedding was solemnized at Holy Redeemer Church, Spaniard's Bay, December 29th, when the rector united in holy matrimony, Cavell, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mercer, Bay Roberts, to Harry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Menchions, Bishop's Cove. The bride, given in marriage by her father, her only attendant was her sister-in-law, Mrs. Everett Mercer. The groom was ably supported by Mr. Everett Mercer, brother of the bride. Following the ceremony, the bridal party motored to Barney's Restaurant, Topsail Road, where the reception was held. The newlyweds have taken up residence in Bay Roberts. Best wishes for future happiness is expressed.

Mrs. Cecily Butt
passed peacefully away at her home here on Tuesday, January 8, at the age of eighty-six years. The late Mrs. Butt was a remarkably active woman for nearly all of her long life and it was only two years ago that she had a doctor attend her for the first time ever. As many of her generation she raised a large family in an era when there was never an over abundance of material blessings, but still she managed as best she could and always with a smile. Since her husband's death about twenty-five years ago she had been lovingly cared for by her daughter Edna.
Surviving are four daughters, Susie in New York, Julia (Mrs. Lynch) at Paradise, C.B., Cecily (Mrs. William Noseworthy) and Edna at Spaniard's Bay; four sons, William at Paradise, C.B., Walter at Heart's Content, Selby at St. John's, and Stanley at Spaniard's Bay, and a large number of grandchildren.
Her funeral took place on Thursday afternoon and after the service in Holy Redeemer Church her remains were laid to rest in the family plot in the church cemetery. The Rev. E. Willis officiated. We offer sympathy to those bereaved.
