Bell Island -
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mercer
of 130 Casey Street, St. John's are receiving the congratulations of their many friends throughout the Province on the attainment of the 62nd anniversary of their wedding, which they are celebrating today. Mr. and Mrs. Mercer were married at Holy Redeemer Church, Spaniard's Bay, December 31, 1897. Mr. Mercer's name is household on Bell Island, where he was employed with the mining Company for approximately half a century. He was retired on pension in 1947 and since that time has resided in the city. It can be truthfully said of Mr. and Mrs. Mercer that they are not at all like the majority of people who have long passed the four score mark, as they get around like anybody forty years younger and their mental faculties are as good as ever.
Mr. Mercer is doing a wonderfull service of mercy in his old age, in that he is a visitor at the city hospitals practically every day enquiring about the sick, a report of which he has given nightly over the Dosco News to loved ones at home.
The Daily News joins with all its readers in extending congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Mercer on this very happy occasion, with the wish that they may live many more happy years together.
