Spaniard's Bay, Dec. 2nd.
Mary Ann Coombs
passed away suddenly in the early hours of Friday, November 29, following a heart seizure. She was forty-eight. Her passing came as a complete shock to her family and friends for on the previous day she had gone about her work, as always and there was nothing to indicate that the end was so near.
She was born at Gullies, Harbour Grace, her maiden name being Rose. Her first marriage was to John Ryan and to them was born William, Raymond, Mona (Mrs. John Foley, St. John's), Sadie (Mrs. John Coombs) and Bridget. After Mr. Ryan's death she married James Coombs, who with their son Leo, mourns the loss of a dear one.
Her funeral was held on Sunday afternoon to the church of St. Anne, where the burial office was recited by Rev. Fr. Hynes, after which she was laid to rest in the family plot. Solemn High Mass of Requiem was held on Monday morning.
Besides her husband and six children, Mrs. Coombs is mourned by nine grandchildren, two brothers, Martin and William Rose, and three sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Michael Whalen), Bridget, (Mrs. Isaac King) and Stenie (Mrs. James King) all of Bell Island. To them all we offer our sincere sympathy in their sudden bereavement.
