Spaniard's Bay -
Mrs. Nellie Porter
, wife of Nathaniel Porter, passed away at her residence in Spaniard's Bay in the early hours of the morning of Wednesday, April 6. She was in her sixty-sixth year.
On Tuesday morning Mrs. Porter was in apparent good health and did her regular household duties, and was in good spirits when she saw her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild leave for St. John's around noon. But shortly after she was stricken with paralysis and died twelve hours later.
Mourning their loss are her husband, three sons, Samuel in St. John's, Corbett in England and Albert at home, three daughters, Winnie in St. John's, Jean (Mrs. Henning Ross) and Joan (Mrs. John Snow) both in Galt, Ontario, one step-son, Jonathan in Bay Roberts, Cavell (Mrs. Lorenzo French) and Elizabeth (Mrs. Alfred King) both of Bell Island, one brother, Corbett Hefford, New Perlican, one sister, Mrs. Joanna Sharpe of Hants Harbour, and fifteen grandchildren.
Her funeral was held on Thursday afternoon to the Church of the Holy Redeemer where the burial service was read by the rector, Rev. E. Willis.

Douglas H. Gosse

Passed peacefully away on April 12th, Douglas H. Gosse, in his 65th year. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Glenda and Jennifer. Funeral on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from Oke's Funeral Home, 123 Quidi Vidi Road. (No flowers, but by request those who wish to show respect may do so by forwarding a contribution for Kiwanis Music Festival to Mr. Douglas MacPherson).

Douglas H. Gosse

We join with the community in general in tendering sympathy to Mr. A. R. Gosse, postmaster at Spaniard's Bay, on the death of his brother, Mr. Douglas H. Gosse, in St. John's on Tuesday, April 12. Our sympathy also to his widow, his daughter, his other brother, Dr. N. H. Gosse of Halifax, Nova Scotia, his sisters, Mrs. H. H. Hutchings in St. John's and Mrs. Arch Crane of Gander.

Spaniard's Bay -
George Peddle
passed away at his home at Bishop's Cove on Easter Sunday at the age of 61 years. His passing came as no surprise to his family and friends as he had been ill for about three years. Before his illness Mr. Peddle was engaged as a watchman at the St. John's General Hospital.
Besides his widow, he is mourned by three sons, Clarence at St. John, New Brunswick, Harold and Edward at home, one daughter, Louise, teacher at Port de Grave, two brothers, Llewellyn at Foxtrap, and Moses at Spaniard's Bay, one sister, Irene (Mrs. John E. Smith) of Bishop's Cove.
His funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon to the church of St. John the Evangelist at Bishop's Cove where the burial service was read by Rev. E. Willis.
We extend sympathy to those bereaved.
