CLARKE'S BEACH - Mrs. Julia Bradbury passed peacefully away at the Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home at Clarke's Beach on Sept. 14, in her 100th year. Funeral service was held at the Anglican Church, Bay Roberts on Tuesday, September 16 and conducted by Rev. Stewart Payne. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery. HARBOUR GRACE - Passed peacefully away at his late residence, Harbour Grace, Mr. Robert Bray in his 85th year. The late Mr. Bray left Harbour Grace at the age of 18 and took employment on the Canadian mainland, returning to this area periodically. At the time of his retirement, 10 years ago, he was employed by the Montreal Milk Producers at Ville Brosard, P.Q. It was at that time that the late Mr. Bray accompanied by his wife, the former Margaret Hibbs of Portugal Cove Road, returned to Harbour Grace to reside. He leaves to mourn his wife, also one daughter, Violet - Mrs. Silas French at Harbour Grace and three sons; Grant at Eastern Townships, P.Q., Ross at Harbour Grace and Ernest at Dunville also fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral took place from his late residence to St. Paul's Church. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery. The burial service was conducted by Rev. L.A. Ludlow.

PORT DE GRAVE - Passed away at Keough's Senior Citizens Home, Holyrood, Janet, widow of John Butler of Port de Grave in her 93rd year. After the death of her husband in 1938, "Aunt Jennie" moved to St. John's until about four years ago. She entered the home. Her funeral took place at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 11 from Barrett's Funeral Home, St. John's, to the U.C. Cemetery at Port de Grave. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. A.R. Murley of Clarke's Beach. She leaves to mourn one adopted daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Al Hillier, five grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

HARBOUR GRACE - Passed peacefully at her late residence, Victoria Street, Harbour Grace, on September 25, Mrs. Charles Cron in her 82nd year. The late Mrs. Cron, the former Irene Beatrice Jardine of Bay Roberts was one of the best-known citizens of Harbour Grace, the wife of the late Dr. Charles Cron. With her pleasing personality and warm smile she welcomed patients at her door who came to obtain medical attention from her husband.
The funeral took place from her late residence to the Anglican Church. Interment was at the Presbyterian Cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. D.M.A. Pearce, Anglican Priest.
She leaves to mourn, one daughter, Patricia at home and 2 sons, George (Bus) at Harbour Grace and James at Henmer, Ontario also 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her husband, the late Dr. Charles Cron predeceased her some 7 years ago.

HOLYROOD - At noon, October 30 death, as it must to all man, came to an old and respected citizen of Holyrood in the person of James J. Crowley. The deceased was in his 82nd year and had been in ill health for the past few years. However, he possessed a courage that was a trademark of the people of his time. He lived a full and active life until a few months before his death. In his younger days he worked for many years in the United States, and upon returning home was employed by the Department of Highways until his retirement. Jim Crowley always took an active interest in the social and religious life of Holyrood and he will be remembered best by those of his generation for his outstanding contribution to the St. Patrick's Day celebrations, especially the concerts at night in the Old Star of the Sea Hall. He was a life-long member of the Star of the Sea Society and at the time of his death was Honourary President. His funeral was largely attended and Mass of Requiem was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Shea. A guard of honour by the Society preceeded the hearse to the South Side Cemetery where interment took place. He leaves to mourn his wife Agatha, two sons John and Andrew, four daughters Lillian, Mrs. Jack Dunn of Arlington, Mass., Rita, Mrs. William White of Lenington (sic), Mass., Genenieve (sic) Mrs. Thomas Doody, St. John's; and Beatrice, Mrs. William Veitch of Holyrood. May he rest in peace.

SHEARSTOWN - Hayward Fry, a former resident of this community and step-brother of William Fry and Joseph Fry of Shearstown, passed away recently at his home in Cambridge, Mass. USA, in his 66 year. The deceased was the son of the late Thomas and Fanny Fry. The late Mr. Fry who was home for a brief visit in 1963 left this community many years ago and went to the U.S.A. Burial was in Cambridge.

BROWNSDALE - The families of Howard N. Goodwin, New Melbourne and Joshua Goodwin Brownsdale were shocked severely to learn September 2 that there had been another tragedy in the family at Toronto where their brother Archie 49, drowned in Toronto Harbour after falling from the ferry, Ongiara. Peter Wilkinson, a temporary summer worker on Toronto Island, jumped form the boat in a courageous though unsuccessful attempt to rescue the man. Police at the scene reported that Wilinson was not able to hold onto Goodwin. Archie, a native of New Melbourne, resided at Maywood Park, Scarborough Ont. Leaving to mourn are his wife, Marion (Powell) of Victoria and three brothers and four sisters and a large number of relatives and friends. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. September 5, he was laid to rest at Pine Hills Cemetery. His two brothers from Newfoundland attended the funeral.

NEW PERLICAN - Passed peacefully away after a long illness at New Perlican, Sept. 19 Mr. James Grant in his 84th year. He leaves to mourn his sad loss, four sons, Ralph at Toronto; Fred, St. John's George and William at home. Mr. Grant was confined to bed for a number of years and was cared for by his son William. His wife Bertha passed away a month ago. Funeral services took place in St. Augustine's Church Sept. 21st with Rev. A. Torraville. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery.

HEART'S DELIGHT - Residents of this community were shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Mrs. Doris Jacobs at Clarke's Beach on Tuesday night, Sept. 23, in her 54th year.
Her quiet personality, ready smile and loving kindness, won her many friends and one could not help but admire the qualities she possessed.
Mrs. Jacobs and her husband came to this community three years ago, and since then Mr. Jacobs has been principal of the Elementary School here. During this time, she became well-known and loved.
She was a devoted member of the A.W.A., and Home and School Associations. She was always willing to do what she could for other people whom she placed before herself. Her interest in young people was evident by her attendance at many school, Guide and Brownie functions and to do whatever she could to make them a success. She shall long be remembered and we mourn the loss of a dear and loving friend.
Leaving to mourn their sad loss her husband Reg, Heart's Delight, mother, Mrs. Edith Dawe, Bay Roberts, three sisters, Mrs, Edna Osmond, Blaketown, Mrs. Ruby Petten, Hibb's Cove and Mrs. Irene Parsons, Bay Roberts, two brothers, William and Hayward Dawe.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. White, Rev. W.T. Brown, Rev. E. Wells and Father J. Taylor of St. Barnabas Church, Blaketown.

COLEY'S POINT - Deepest sympathy is extended to Mr. Harry Joyce, which occurred Wednesday Sept. 17. Her tragic death cast a shadow of sadness over the community and surrounding area. Sorrow was indicated by the large attendance at the funeral which took place from Baggs funeral home Bay Roberts, to the Anglican Church and cemetery, Coley's Point. The service was conducted by the Rev. S.S. Payne, assisted by Rev. Butler, a former rector of this parish, now at Nova Scotia. Also attending was Rev. Rowsell of Upper Island Cove.

Passed peacefully away following a sudden illness, Mr. Cyril M.L. King age 45 years, Shady Lane, Merrimack, U.S.A. The late Mr. King was born at Perry's Cove, Newfoundland, the son of the late Henry and Lydia King. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, with the 82nd Airborne Division.
He leaves to mourn his wife, the former Margaret McWilliams and three sons Bruce, Robert and Scott also two daughters, Barbara and Deborah, all residing at Merrimack, and one brother Wallace at Nova Scotia as well as four sisters; Julia, Mrs. Harry Butt of Everett, Miss Beatrice King of Nashua; Myrtle, Mrs. Wallace Burden of Carbonear and Doris, Mrs. George Pike, of Harbour Grace.

CARBONEAR - On Tuesday, September 9, relatives and friends were shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Mr. Douglas Laing of Carbonear South in his 51st year. BRIGUS - Sincere sympathy is extended to the parents and relatives of Isobel Lidster, whose death occurred on Friday, September 12, under tragic circumstances. She was the daughter of James and Eileen Lidster. She was eight years old. The late Mr. Ludlow was a former resident of Back Cove, Fogo, where he and his wife lived for most of their lives. His wife having passed away some years ago, the late Mr. Ludlow moved to Harbour Grace to reside with his son and daughter-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. L.A. Ludlow. He was a member of St. Andrew's Anglican Church choir at Fogo for 54 years and a life time member of the Society of United Fishermen. He leaves to mourn two sons, Maxwell at Toronto and Rev. L.A. Ludlow at Harbour Grace also one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Payne at Toronto and three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral took place from St. Thomas's Anglican Church, St. John's. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road.

PORT DE GRAVE - Passed peacefully away on September 6, after a long illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Dawe, Port de Grave, Thomas H. Mercer age 83. The late Mr. Mercer was a retired miner having spent most of his life at Bell Island. After retiring, he moved to Portugal Cove until ill-health forced he and his wife to come and live with their daughter. His wife predeceased him two years ago. He leaves to mourn one daughter Hannah, with whom he resided, one brother Elijah at New Hampshire and eight grandchildren. Prayers at the home were by Rev. J.W. Taylor. The funeral service was conducted from St. Barnabas Church and Cemetery at Blaketown. Rev. White officiated. Deepest sympathy is extended.

HARBOUR GRACE - Her many friends at Harbour Grace will be sorry to learn of the death of Miss Florence Noel, a former resident of Harbour Grace South. The late Miss Noel was the daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. Albert Noel. She left Harbour Grace several years ago and resided with her niece, Mrs. Cantrell at Smyrona, Georgia where she remained until her death.

SHEARSTOWN - Funeral Services were held on Sunday, Sept. 21 to the United Church and cemetery Coley's Point for the late Francis Parsons of Country Road West. The late Mr. Parsons known to his many friends and relatives in the Country Road, Shearstown and surrounding area as "Uncle France" was in his 90th year. The elderly gentlemen (sic) was hale and hearty up until relatively recent times and enjoyed meeting and talking with his friends. Just a few days before his passing he visited some relatives and friends in Country Road and Shearstown. He lived with his son and daughter-in-law at Shearstown for some years. At the time of his death he was living with his daughter, Susie and her husband at Blaketown, Trinity Bay.
The funeral from Baggs Funeral home to the United Church and Cemetery was largely attended. Members of the Loyal Orange Lodge of which he was a life-long member and the lodge band attended the funeral. Rev. Stanford officiated.
He leaves to mourn eight sons and four daughters, a large number of grand-children, as well as numerous friends and relatives. Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

FRESHWATER - Passed away at Freshwater on September 14, John William Parsons age 86 years. The late Mr. Parsons was a former resident of Otterbury, Conception Bay. He pursued the cod fishery there for many years before being employed at the Iron Ore Mines at Bell Island. He afterwards was active in the Labrador fishery, until health and age, prevented him from continuing. Left to mourn are four sons: William and John at Carbonear; Herbert and Albert at Toronto, Ontario; four daughters, Annie, Mrs. King at Carbonear; Minnie, Mrs. Robert Penney, Salmon Cove; Leah, Mrs. Frederick Smith, Clarenville; Olive, Mrs. O. Peach, Freshwater, the latter with whom he resided. Also twenty-three grandchildren. Interment was at the U.C. Cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. N. Winsor, Carbonear.

CUPIDS - The whole town of Cupids was shocked and deeply saddened on Sunday September 29 to learn of the sudden passing of Mr. Harold Wells. Mr. Wells had left his home to walk the short distance to the U.C. School, to open Sunday school, of which he was the superintendent. When only a few yards from the school door, he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack and within a few minutes had passed away. Mr. Wells had not been enjoying the best of health for a number of years, but this did not prevent him from taking an active part in Church and Community Affairs, and his sudden passing comes as a shock to the whole community. Left to mourn his passing as his wife Genevra, son Clyde, and one daughter Susan, also three brothers, Arch, Fred and Leslie. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery with Rev. Roland Wells officiating. Rev. Wells in speaking during the funeral service paid tribute to contributions of Mr. Wells, to the Church, School and Community. Besides being the superintendent of the Sunday School, he was a member of the Trustee Board, member of the Committee of Stewards, member of the official board and treasurer of the local committee of stewards. Mr. Wells was also a member of the Cupids Town Council. To all of those groups he gave unstinted dedicated services. Mr. Wells was a man of strong convictions, and had the courage to express them. He did not always agree with his co-workers but when a decision was made he always accepted the will of the majority and did his best to implement their wishes.

YETMAN, Bertha

SPANIARD'S BAY - Many residents were saddened to hear of the sudden passing on September 16, of Mrs. Bertha Yetman, at the age of 88. Mrs. Yetman spent most of her long lifetime here and was well known and respected by all. She and her husband, the late Eloil Yetman, for many years carried on a small business. Since his death eleven years ago she had resided with her niece Patricia who went to live with them when a very small girl and who with her husband and children lovingly cared for her. She moved with them to Whitbourne a few years ago and while there made many friends, though always took the opportunity whenever she could to visit her old friends here. When about a year ago they returned here to live, Mrs. Yetman was very glad to be back in her old hometown.
She was a devout Anglican and attended church services regularly in fact she was at Holy Redeemer Church for the morning service on the Sunday prior to her death. In spite of her advanced years she retained all her faculties and found much pleasure in reading and conversing with friends, a gracious lady whose pleasant smile and kindly personality will be remembered. She is survived by her niece, Patricia, her husband Lewis R. Gosse and their three children, Lois, Mary and Glenn of Spaniard's Bay a sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Gosse, a nephew Wendell Gosse and a niece Jeanne Hibbard all residing in the U.S.A. Her remains rested at Young's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay until Friday, September 19, when the funeral took place to Holy Redeemer Church. Rev. E. Willis conducted the burial service. Rev. White of Whitbourne and Canon R.R. Babb of St. Mary's, St. John's were also in attendance. Burial was in the Mortuary Hill Cemetery.
