BRANTON, Leonard Gordon - 82, Halifax, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born in Islington, NFLD, he was a son of the late Edward and Mabel (Peddle) Branton. Leonard immigrated to Canada in 1946 from Newfoundland, coming to Halifax to work as a Stevedore on the waterfront. He later went to work as a carpenter until his retirement. He loved his work and took great pride in it. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for 61 years and 10 months. Leonard was a man of great faith, who enjoyed dancing to his Newfoundland music. He will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by son, George (Linda) Branton, PEI; daughter, Emma Branton (John Cusick), Halifax; grandchildren, Tina MacDonald, Steven Branton and Sarah MacKenzie; great-grandchild, Cody Dixon; companion Mabel Hollett; brother, Harrison, Ontario; sister, Lillian, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Jane (Legge); brothers, Roland, Charlie, Bob and Norman. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her 1 son: Clifford (Susan); 3 daughters: Myra (Kevin) Young, Joy (Harold) Brown and Annette (Byron) Holmes; her beloved grandchildren: Lori (Gene), Susan (Dave), Stephanie (Stephen), Kristy (Des), Jeff, Trevor (Sheena), Melissa (Mike), Paul (Ashley), Scott and Michael (Jessica); one cherished great-grandson and the joy of her life: Liam; sister: Alfreda (Roy) Mercer; brothers-in-law: Nathan (Vi) Yetman and John (Gwen) Yetman; sisters-in-law: Robie (Gordon) Fifield, Mildred (Michael) Barry and Lillian (Bill) Hause; brothers-in-law wives: Shirley, Carol and Genevieve Yetman and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were: Paul Brown (grandson), Jeff Brown (grandson), Michael Holmes (grandson), Trevor Young (grandson), Kenneth Bishop (great nephew), Gene Lander (grandson-in-law), Stephen Lawlor (grandson-in-law) and Mike Smith (grandson-in-law). Captains Morgan and Lisa Hillier conducted the funeral service at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bay Roberts on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Interment was at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Bay Roberts. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Moore's Funeral Home, Bay Roberts.
