Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, November 19, 2017, Michael F. 'Mike' Galway of Riverhead, Hr. Grace, age 75 years. Predeceased by wife: Sadie; mother: Mary Galway; step-father: Bernard Fitzgerald; step-brother: Bill Fitzgerald. Left to mourn, one daughter: Peggy (Allan) Moore, Carbonear; one son: Scott, Riverhead, Hr. Grace; two granddaughters: Taylor (Matthew) and Mackenzie (Colin); four brothers: Pat (Marilyn), Riverhead, Hr. Grace, Kevin (Dorothy), Spaniard's Bay, Joe (Gloria), St. John's, Bernie (Mary) Fitzgerald, Riverhead, Hr. Grace; step-brother: Rendall Fitzgerald (Martin Pol), Carbonear; step-sister: Bridget Mercer, Tilton; special sister-in-law: Madge Mercer, Bryant's Cove; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Hr Grace. Fr. Emmanuel Osuagwu conducted the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 22 from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Riverhead, Hr. Grace. Passed peaceful away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by his wife Daphne, parents Warren and Evelyn Norman and his infant sister. Leaving to mourn his loving daughters Pamela and Cherisse (Roy Lall); his precious grandchildren Alexander, Chelsea, Julianna and Avery; and son-in-law Damian Masterson; cousin Roger Norman (Gail, and their children Tim, Brad, Cheryl and Janet). Also leaving to mourn his devoted extended family
Doreen (Irving Saunders) and Sylvia (Eric Snow) and Barry Hussey (Sharon) and their families. Hubert was a professional educator who exhibited leadership and devotion in the community in many capacities. He touched countless lives though his work as a teacher, in guidance, with the NLTA and the Denominational Education Council. Through his work with the Canadian Bible Society, the United Church, and as the first lay President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Conference of the United Church of Canada, as well as varied volunteer work in church and in the community, Hubert provided many institutions with guidance and governance through his measured consideration. He lived a life of quiet fortitude, marked by courage, grace and dignity. A loving husband and father, he will be greatly missed by a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral service to be held at St. James United Church on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 11:00am. Cremation has taken place and interment will follow at Cupids United Church Cemetery on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2:30pm.
